It isn't going to be any sort of QR code scanning or tap thing because that idea just isn't going to fly with businesses.

so it's useless

why bother then? to satisfy the old "as a taxpayer the government MUST do something about this to make me feel better" trope?

I thought we were already suppose to be at herd immunity? If that was the case and you’re hiring trustworthy people then you shouldn’t need to force people to get a vaccine as they should have already done so on their own merit.

Private companies getting access to your health records etc is where I draw the line. My employer has no business asking for proof of my vaccination imo. Either they Beleive what I say or they enact protocols to protect people. It isn’t hyperbole to say that this is a slipery slope because how can any company be sure of your true vaccination status without getting your health care #? They can’t. And that isn’t information any employer would be asking upon hiring.

In any business there is the hierarchy of control in terms of safety procedures. If a business cannot prove that everyone is vaccinated then they have to keep controls in place to ensure a safe work place for customers and other employees. In a customer facing business like a store-front etc. It will ultimately fall back into the business to enact controls to protect others.

If they govt. enacts some hokey policy that is easily counterfeited, it kind of defeats the entire purpose of this vaccine passport. As The Producer said, this essentially has to come down to a randomly generated QR code linked to your health card that businesses scan through a govt. app to get approval.

Anything less is pointless.

JDMDreams 08-23-2021 12:18 PM

From what I've seen, your manager can't ask, but HR health and safety can. And it isn't hard to see who still has to fully wear masks at all times since there weren't vacinated and have to do tests every shift I assume and upload it onto the company health and safety app. Or why xx employee all of a sudden got removed from their existing position.

They've also stated that you can be terminated if you break the rules.

So I guess all the ppl who don't want to get vaccines better start quitting or starting their own companies.:accepted::lawl:

We're not at herd immunity because the actual population (not just 12+) has not met the arbitrary threshold.

And while I understand what you mean with employers asking for PHNs, how is that any different than them asking for your SIN and other personal details (ie. DOB, address, etc.). There are laws and systems in place to protect you as the individual from misuse of that information, so that your company's accountant can't open credit cards in your name without facing a world of hurt.

Them just having another number on your file doesn't suddenly open you up to a massive invasion of privacy.

Anyway, if big banks have gone ahead and mandated vaccines, you can armchair lawyer all you'd like about how it's illegal and whatnot, but I'd think that actual lawyers have deemed it very legal.

Hondaracer 08-23-2021 12:39 PM

Ironically the company I work for was involved in my wife’s identity being stolen and used to open additional unrelated accounts so I’m not entirely assured of my privacy being guaranteed lol. One of the biggest companies in Canada couldn’t guarantee her privacy.

And i can pretty much say with certainty it wasn’t her fault as she is and always has been, over the top cautious. On top of that individuals within our company can access that information via a basic search (SIN, credit history etc)

So if a basic bum new-hire can access this information, im not exactly thrilled to provide any further personal data.

westopher 08-23-2021 12:42 PM

What can someone do with your proof of vaccination that they couldn’t do with all that other info though? It’s completely irrelevant when it comes to any sort of financial or identity fraud.
You can say, you just don’t like it, but that’s really the only effect it can have.

Hondaracer 08-23-2021 12:44 PM

If all you’ve gotta do is flash that card or PDF and have your name checked off a list, sure.

But again like I said above without providing your health care number and then basically cross referencing with the govt. your status, how could they ensure what you’re providing is legitamite?

Honestly it’s probably much ado about nothing but we’ll see. I won’t be making a fuss about it if that’s what it comes to as I still need a pay cheque but I’m not going to like it

Hondaracer 08-23-2021 12:46 PM

Here’s the system:

Quote:

“A secure weblink will be provided and publicized before Sept. 13, where people will be able to confidentially access their proof of vaccination. Individuals will be able to save a copy of their proof of vaccination to their phone to show it when entering or using designated businesses and events. Individuals who cannot access their proof of vaccination online will be provided with a secure alternative option,” the province said Monday.
Counterfeits have already been made? Lol

westopher 08-23-2021 12:51 PM

I totally agree with not liking it, but I take a lot less issue with employers having the access to the info about employees, than the conflicts it will create in daily life.

How it works

As of Sept. 13, people in British Columbia will be required to be partially vaccinated with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to access certain businesses and events.

As of Oct. 24, people in British Columbia will be required to be fully immunized, at least seven days after receiving two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, to access the same list of businesses and events.

In the interim, in areas where community transmission is increased significantly or where there are outbreaks, the requirements to be fully vaccinated to access these events and activities may be required at the direction of the local medical health officer.

Here is the full list of settings where proof of vaccination will be required:
indoor ticketed sporting events
indoor concerts
indoor theatre/dance/symphony events
restaurants (indoor and patio dining)
night clubs
casinos
movie theatres
fitness centres/gyms (excluding youth recreational sport)
businesses offering indoor high-intensity group exercise activities
organized indoor events (eg. weddings, parties, conferences, meetings, workshops)
discretionary organized indoor group recreational classes and activities

Individual businesses or event organizers may also implement these requirements earlier as part of their ongoing safety plans. Businesses or institutions choosing to adopt their own vaccination policies beyond those set out in this order will be responsible for doing their own due diligence.

Individuals will be able to confidentially access their proof of vaccination through a secure website. A weblink will be provided and publicized widely before Sept. 13. To access proof of vaccination an individual will need:
name
date of birth
personal health number (PHN)

Individuals will be able to save a copy of their proof of vaccination to their phone to show when entering or using designated businesses and events.

A second, secure option will be provided for people who cannot access their proof of vaccination online through a call-in centre (call centre details to be made public in coming days).

Individuals will show proof of vaccination in the settings listed in the PHO order, alongside valid government ID.

Proof of vaccination will also be required for people visiting from outside of B.C. using a provincially/territorially recognized official record alongside valid government ID from the jurisdiction. For individuals visiting from outside of Canada, they will be required to show their proof of vaccination used to enter the country and their passport.

The measures will be time limited through to Jan. 31, 2022, subject to possible extension.

The measures set out above do not apply to K-12 schools (public and independent) and before-and-after school programs for students. Student-only events and activities within K-to-12 public and independent schools and before and after school programs are excluded from providing a proof of vaccine as they will be covered by specific guidelines for school and child care settings. Guidance for these settings related to students will be provided in the coming days. The measures do apply to large indoor events (theatre, concerts) attended by parents, family and/or the public.

The measures set out above will, as relevant, apply to post-secondary campuses. Student housing will be a part of the public health order identifying where proof of vaccination is required and will be in effect for Sept. 7. Further guidance for these settings related to students will be developed in the coming days in consultation with public health, including which types of student housing facilities will be included.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Starting Sept. 13, the province has announced that vaccine passports will be required in order to access non-essential businesses.

One dose will be required to enter places like indoor concerts, sporting events, movies, and anywhere there is non-discretionary activities by mid-September.

By Oct. 24, only fully immunized people will be able to attend these settings, including indoor ticketed sporting events, indoor and patio dining in restaurants, fitness centres, casinos and indoor organized events, like conferences and weddings.

“Providing advanced notice of this measure to stop the spread, keep people safe, and increase confidence will allow those who have not yet got their vaccine to take the necessary action to do so immediately,” Health Minister Adrian Dix said.

There will be no exceptions.

“This is a temporary measure that’s getting us through a risky period where we know that people who are unvaccinated are a greater risk of both contracting and spreading this virus. If there are those rare people who have a medical reason that they can’t be immunized – these are discretionary events, so they will not be able to attend those events through this period of high risk,” B.C.’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said.

The vaccine certificate system will limit where unvaccinated people will be allowed to go, and follows a push from restaurants and other businesses for the government to provide consistent rules.

Hmmm, that means people don't have to show the vaccine passport card in essential places like super markets, banks, Canadian Tire, Home Depot etc. How does this passport thing really limit the spread of Covid from the Joe Blows, John Smiths, who choose to be unvaccinated while grocery shopping at Super Store? [ :suspicious:

CivicBlues 08-23-2021 12:59 PM

Stratas should check this too and deactivate access to shared amenities if not met. Sick of using the building gym half-wondering if the 20-something person panting next to me is vaxxed or not.

aaaannnnd we're back to this essential (but not really) vs non essential bullshit again. :fulloffuck:

I do wonder how/what enforcement will happen, and how they will implement exemptions (ie. legitimate ones, not the "my feelings prevent me from getting a shot").

I think everyone can agree nobody wants to see the minimum wage front of house/retail workers deal with assholes spitting their literal vitriol.

Edit: nm, wow, no admission for unvaxxed, even for legitimate reasons. That's pretty strong, although I guess it makes sense also.

Vansterdam 08-23-2021 02:02 PM

I like how the article says 75% of BC has 2 shots and 85% have their first but are still implementing this.

do you really think its going to be "temporary" ?

but ya feel bad for the workers that have to deal with all the crazy shit once this goes into effect

They do that to prevent fake IDs, pretty common. Casinos do it too if you look young.

BlackV62K2 08-23-2021 02:10 PM

Pre-covid, clubs definitely swiped your ID. I dont recall ever going to a bar/pub that did that though

Hondaracer 08-23-2021 02:18 PM

Jas Johal has a new radio show on 980 and he has Dix on right now. He asked whether or not the govt. had considered providing support for businesses to enact and require these passports

His answer was essentially that restaurants and other businesses have people who are scared to go to them without knowing everyone is vaccinated so you should be great full for the increase in business but no, we will not support your screening lol..

StylinRed 08-23-2021 02:50 PM

16 deaths over the weekend, damn

inv4zn 08-23-2021 02:58 PM

Hospitalizations are creeping up, as are ICU cases (91% unvaccinated) - some US hospitals are crippled right now with non-covid patients dying while waiting for a bed at ERs.

pastarocket 08-23-2021 03:32 PM

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As B.C. recorded 1,711 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, Premier John Horgan said it is unlikely the province will be moving into stage 4 of the B.C. Restart Plan come September.

“The Delta variant and an increase in cases, largely within the unvaccinated population, has led us to pause and reflect on what steps, what measures, we can take through public health and through other initiatives to protect British Columbians,” Premier John Horgan said.

The number of new infections decreased over each of the past three days, with 724 cases recorded on Saturday, 545 on Sunday, and 442 on Monday.

Interior Health recorded the most new cases, with 768. Fraser Health has 419 new cases, and Vancouver Coastal Health recorded 290 new cases.

In the past three days, 16 deaths from COVID-19 have been recorded, for a total of 1,801 in B.C. This includes 14 deaths in Interior Health
.

Premier John Horgan said it is 'unlikely' B.C. will move into stage 4 of the province's restart plan.

I cannot say that I am surprised that BC is stuck in stage 3 now.

Hondaracer 08-23-2021 03:36 PM

Just as I’ve seen 10-12 Washington plates in the last 2 days. Great timing

BMO gave away my identity. I was notified by them. 1.5 years later bank accounts were attempted to be made at RBC (they notified me). But it’s all good. The class action lawsuits went through recently and I was elgiable for $100. I denied it as that would waive my right to sue the mother $&@“ers down the road. Not that I’d ever get anywhere. Lol.
