Went to cactus club for lunch today and they verified my vaccine passport and a piece of ID. The waitress said on Friday is when they’ll probably get some backlash from people since these guys will be looking to get drunk

N95's would be a start then the mask mandate may actually do something. N95's filter down to 0.3 microns but COVID particles are as small as 0.1. At least there's a chance.
These cloth masks everyone's wearing with cute bunnies and bedazzled jewels and tassels on them don't do a thing but stop the largest of droplets; they're a placebo measure. They don't seal, they don't filter, and they're equivalent to wearing your t-shirt over your nose. If you don't believe it go stand in a walk in freezer if you can and breathe, and see how much water vapor comes through and around your mask. That's just the part of the exhale you can see. As previously stated there's a reason you're not allowed to wear them in hospitals, clinics, etc. I'm surprised this has to be recognized, again. I wear an ATSM III mask everywhere I'm supposed to knowing it's just a splash guard.
At first a real mask mandate wasn't possible but the Gov has had over a year to get better PPE and they haven't done a thing. In fact they gave away 16 tonnes of it to China and got nothing in return. Printing money to produce or procure them would have cost less than keeping people alive in hospitals and would have actually reduced transmissions. But common sense isn't a strong point of our governments at any level these days.
The passports are still divisive, segregating, discriminatory against the genuinely medically exempt, and will prove to be worthless against transmission but socially costly. Looks like we may already be rounding the peak of the fourth wave (fingers crossed).

Your stats are correct, but to say they do nothing is asinine. No, they're not as effective as N95s, but if some authoritative body were to come out and say everyone must wear this specific type of mask you don't need to be an intelltual (ha!) to foresee the chaos that will ensue.
Even those ridiculous face masks where the entire bottom half is wide open are better than nothing.

There's no need for N95 when the point is to stop spreading - if your mask is good enough to stop droplets from going out, you're good to go as far as effectiveness vs quality of life and having a life.
If you're dealing with covid patients constantly, then yeah a sealed N95 is needed
This isn't 2020 anymore, we know a bit more now
Also the people medically exempt from getting a vaccine are also usually exempt from being able to socialize, go to the gym, etc. They need to hunker down more than anyone. If vaccination is a risk, then getting covid is a much, much bigger risk. And unlike a vaccine, you can't exactly just "not get covid".

People if we didn't help China: "Canada is an embarrassment on the world stage, we're not helping other countries like we're known for!"
Exact same people when we tried to help China: "Canada wasted money and time helping another country when we should have helped ourselves first!"
How about some context? At that time, China (Wuhan) was in a shitload of trouble. Nobody knew what was going to come to be, Heck, I remember thinking "Wow I hope that doesn't come here"... and even after it started to I thought "No biggee, probably still be going to Coachella next month, maybe my friend's cruise at the end of March too"......... but here we are, looking back in retrospect, judging every decision that was made without any context.
Okay.

Seeing a few restaurants I follow on Instagram who do “counter service” saying they will not require the vaccine passport even though they dine in because you order/get food from the counter as opposed to be served by a waiter?
Kinda weird..as these places were always waited on/dine in before but they’ve shifted to this to avoid the passport?..

The restaurants in question have had some over the top political stuff in the past. Not so much local politics but global stuff so I’m curious if their stance is related to that

How was it? Used to be one of my favourite spots for a quick meal but last few times I was pretty bummed.

Before passing judgement, I would air on the side of caution and say the restaurants are probably doing what they can to not lose more business, since the last year and a half has been brutal. If switching to counter service helps you keep that “1 in 5” customers, then I don’t blame them.
Though for some I’m sure it’s a more political or bias’ed move

Chances are if one is medically exempt, one probably shouldn't be out eating at a restaurant anyways as those ppl would be highly susceptible to death from infection.
By extension, for those that have a criminal record and cannot get a passport or cannot leave the country, is that discrimination?

People keep pretending to care about the medically exempt, but I've yet to hear why they're exempt, how many people that actually includes or how any of them feel about this.

Health Canada has approved brand names for Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines and announced the change on social media today.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has now been dubbed Comirnaty, which the company says represents a combination of the terms COVID-19, mRNA, community, and immunity.
The Moderna vaccine will go by SpikeVax and the AstraZeneca vaccine will be named Vaxzevria.
