1 in 95 chance of dying? I can handle those odds.

But if your 90… 1 in 3? Haha oh man, I’d be scared shitless. I’m betting the other 2/3 didn’t have a very nice experience even if they lived.

westopher 10-09-2021 11:42 AM

1/95 still isn’t sweet considering the amount of mitigation that was done. If it were left to run rampant the caseload and deaths would be huge. Those numbers will go down drastically with vaccination now though, so yeah. 1/95 chance if your unvaccinated and probably 1/10000 for our age group if you are.
It’s just down to hospital capacity at this point, as most people are probably more likely to die from a myriad of other things in the current situation.

320icar 10-09-2021 10:07 PM

I don’t watch many of those russel brand videos, but he usually is very respectful and polite, good at seeing both sides of a discussion. This one is about the non vaccinated population. I’d say worth watching the first 10 minutes, might help some of us at least be more understanding or ask questions before condemning all non vaccinated as idiots.

Granted I do see that this video is definitely more of an American issue. Many of those concerns brought up do not apply to Canada (paid time to get shot, sick days, green cards etc)

^^From "fuck you" towards to the anti-vaxxers to this? Today is a great day.

TL;DR -- US to accept travellers immunized with vaccines approved by WHO, FDA, says CDC

There is a big difference between anti-vax and people who haven’t gotten the shot. I have an anti government uncle I’ll openly call an idiot. I have a cousin who *finally* got the jab but he’s definite not an idiot. And I have friends with medical conditions that can’t get the shot. I know people all over the spectrum.

But I still firmly maintain a big fuck you to the anti-vax people who are stuck on these weird anti gov anti medical field anti whatever anti mask shit. Fuck still lol

Edit: and like I already stated, a lot of that video doesn’t apply to Canada. The vaccine is free. We get paid time off to get it. We get paid sick days if we need to. We have a great medical and social system. We don’t have a large undocumented resident issue who isn’t willing to be in the system, and your wealth status has no bearing on how you get the vaccine. So *a lot* of the people left who aren’t vaccinated are now the hold outs, and lots of them are the kind that will protest in Vancouver blocking streets, or like my uncle blames the entire pandemic on us vaccinated ones for going around and being social at hockey games.

Would you rather me not be willing to spread understandingness? Would you prefer i give a big fuck you to 20% of the population? What point exactly are you trying to prove. I’d be curious to see what you wrote before you went back and edited it

My first post was "Mainstream media is basically the equivalent to the National Enquirer. Once you see it, you can't unsee it"

I later felt that this was a super generic statement and was not really useful to this discussion. Then I thought about that 'fuck you' post you shared and was like hmmmm. Interesting. But in a super amazing way. Like perhaps this person who had a certain view has now found some new info that may offer another side and perhaps change that view, if even just a tiny bit. Offer a different perspective. In an era of misinformation it's rewarding to see this occur.

I apologize if my short comment left it more up to interpretation. It wasn't meant as a shot, more of a compliment. I wasn't trying to single you out but your original comment stood out to me, so to see your most recent post I felt gratitude.

Yes, I agree that the U.S. is much different than Canada so lots of what Russell was saying does not apply to the average citizen here. Still though, it was nice to see what you took away from the video.

Yes, definitely spread understandingness. No definitely don't say fuck you to 20% of the population.

I wasn't trying to prove a point, but more share my gratitude for willingness to accept new info.

28deaths over the long weekend, and ICU #s still went up!

spoon.ek9 10-12-2021 03:55 PM

normally holidays are chill in emergency. this past weekend was a shit show. way too many people coming into the department and ICU was full before that occurred. today was even worse somehow.

JDMDreams 10-12-2021 04:27 PM

Friday to Saturday: 603 new cases.
Saturday to Sunday: 634 new cases.
Sunday to Monday: 468 new cases.
Monday to Tuesday: 385 new cases.

I wonder what they are going to do about it? It doesn't really seem like cases are dropping plus I think the numbers will just go up from here after the gatherings, Halloween, remembrance Day, Christmas

westopher 10-12-2021 04:31 PM

The 7 day case average has dropped by 25% in the last 11 days. All this info is readily available so you don't have to rely on what it seems.

Are those people coming in bcos of COVID or some other reasons?

spoon.ek9 10-12-2021 05:18 PM

I can't say for sure why everyone is in ICU (for sure some are covid). Emerg has been full of non-covid patients. This is exactly why we needed to keep the numbers down because shit happens and adding covid on top of things would make things unbearable.

I should also note, one hospital isn't indicative of what's going on at all hospitals. For example, on the island I've been speaking to a nurse who says they're literally spending every single day making sure they have enough room for all the covid patients.

US land border supposedly opening back up next month. Details are a bit sketchy but here's hoping it's legit.

The United States is planning to reopen its land border to Canadians next month, according to a U.S. congressman.

The long-awaited news came in a statement from Rep. Brian Higgins.

The New York Democrat has been one of the loudest critics in Washington of the continued border restrictions that have lasted for more than a year and a half.

He made the claim in a statement but offered no further details. He said further details would soon be announced by the U.S. administration.

"The sigh of relief coming from Northern Border communities following this announcement is so loud it can practically be heard on either end of the Peace Bridge," Higgins said in a statement, referring to the span that connects Buffalo, N.Y., to Fort Erie, Ont., and one of the busiest bridges between the two countries.

The move would come after Canada's recent reopening of its land border to U.S. travellers. The United States, however, has never completely ended recreational travel from Canada as it has allowed air travel from Canada since the beginning of the pandemic.

It's ok you can stay home.

Traum 10-13-2021 09:11 AM

Land crossings are not going to require negative test results, so I think we can all count on some portion of travelers faking their vaccination status. There are also gonna be a good bunch of people trying to cross without the FDA / WHO-approved vaccines. FailFish

Trader Joes! Here I come! Just in time for black Friday too! :fuckthatshit:

Where did you read this?

From my understanding, we'll apparently still require a negative PCR test prior to re-entry to Canada via land border.

If that's the case, you're pretty much fucked for a day trip down there.

Fucking ridiculous.

lilaznviper 10-13-2021 11:53 AM

if you use one to get into the USA, can't you just use the same one coming back in for the day trip? or get tested in canada, go for a day trip come back using that test you did in canada?

StylinRed 10-13-2021 12:22 PM

I imagine they'll make adjustments, maybe they'll get you to take one of those quick tests at the border, or make it pcr tests are good for X amount of days

Either way you're guaranteed that the crossings are going to be a clusterduck of wait times

Quote:

Unlike air travel, for which proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required before boarding a flight to enter the U.S., no testing will be required to enter the U.S. by land or sea, provided the travellers meet the vaccination requirement, Higgins confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday.

Higgins also said he would be lobbying for tests not to be required to cross the border back into Canada. Currently, you need to provide a negative COVID-19 test to cross the border from the U.S. to Canada.
Ah so Canada only, Canada will prolly remove that requirement (they shouldn't imo but probably will)

In the article above it states "If a traveller is fully vaccinated, there will be no requirement for them to show a negative COVID-19 test"
This is referring to entering the states.

Why shouldn't everyone, regardless of vaccine status, be made to show a negative test result for entry? The fully vaccinated can still have and spread covid, only perhaps less obviously, since their symptoms are less severe.

Hondaracer 10-13-2021 04:00 PM

RS - omg the states are so gross! Trump ruined everything! Conservative bastards!!!

RS - omg please please please can I line up for 5 hours and get a PCR test to save $5 on gas and buy a different flavoured mixed nuts
