I just got off a flight 3 weeks ago from Quebec. Everyone is masked, you have the best HEPA air filters in the world with fans blowing in your face and everyone in my party was double-vaxxed. And there wasn't even a vaxx requirement back then. Now there is a vaxx mandate and in a few months everyone will be getting a booster shot so I don't see what else we can do to make flying any safer than it is now.

westopher 11-10-2021 01:56 PM

We can all hide at home and never socialize again.

Hondaracer 11-10-2021 02:02 PM

Outside of flying being even MORE unenjoyable than prior to Covid somehow I’d concur with CB about it being about the safest mode of public transport around

spoon.ek9 11-10-2021 02:57 PM

Speaking of boosters, I just got my third shot yesterday. Chose to stick with Pfizer.

Right now, they're recommending you get Moderna because it offers better protection against the Delta Variant (although I'm not quite sure where they're getting this info). Anyways, it's anecdotal, but a few coworkers missed 1.5-4 days of work and some friends didn't feel so great having taken the Moderna vaccine (doses 1&2 were Pfizer).

With me being relied upon to continue working OT 4 days per month (minimum), I decided to not risk missing work and chose Pfizer. A very recent change has already been implemented with Moderna booster shots being half the dose (0.25mL vs 0.5mL) unless you are a senior or immunocompromised. Pfizer remains the full dose if you choose it as your booster.

Just some interesting tidbits I thought I'd share.

another roll of the dice for heart issues! cant wait

StylinRed 11-10-2021 03:39 PM

A study and few medical experts say that the heart issues arise due to improper jab of the vax, where the person jabbing hits a vein but doesn't realize, and just injects you, if they aspirate the needle they would be able to know if they hit a vein. A study showed rats developed heart infections when the vax got into their veins

But several years ago there was a push to stop aspiration, because it saved time and money, and u could buy cheaper syringes that don't allow for aspirating

My guess is the provincial government hasn't figured out exactly how to distribute the J&J vaccines yet -- who should get it, how much each place will get, etc. As is the case with the very first batches of vaccines, priority goes to healthcare staff -- I am not surprised by that. Beyond that, I'm guessing / hoping the provincial Ministry of Health will make further announcements on how to get those J&J jabs.

For your acquaintance, is there no arrangement available to simply suspend his work without pay? I'm surprised to hear that the pension will be lost, because normally it shouldn't work out like that. Of course, terminating work early will always have a severe and direct impact on the eventual pension payout because most plans are worth the most with those final few years before retiring. Inflation and raises will erode a lot of the buying power of a pension that is suspended early.

i read that too. this person isn't a health care worker, but they do work for the public.

they're out of time - it's get something very soon, or flush a 20+ year career and pension.

there's no point in discussing the why's or why not's. It's non mRna or nothing.

It sounds like at this point we don't have an answer - which is dumb. Why bother with the announcement if there's no clear path and timeframe for adoption. :yuno:

yes - it looks like it's 60 days without pay at this point. Termination after that.

and by flush, I mean no ability to keep contributing to a last of the dying breed old school government type pension. I don't mean that it's gone - there would be a payout or other arrangements. My point was that with this much time in, it's finally the real contribution time. What's the point in working for one of these pensions if you don't see it all the way through.*

bottom line is that this person is willing to walk away from the career, stability and future earnings over a vaccine choice. for better or worse i'm hoping that there's an olive branch here w the J&J. Something that can be obtained in the next 2 months. If the government truly wants to get everybody vaccinated, and it's approved and recognized - it's a no brainer to make this available. My understanding is that it may be possible to go down to the states and get it.

* my pension knowledge is based on hearsay at best. I've never had one, or even remotely close to having a job that would offer something like that.

None of this really matters. I wanted to know if anybody had any more info about the J&J availability. I think we all have the same info.

Hondaracer 11-10-2021 09:19 PM

So I’d say if you’re worried about getting on a plane, you probably shouldn’t be out period.. lol

In the last week I’ve been to a show at centre for performing arts, a canucks game, and tonight a movie at Scotia theatre. No one wears masks in these places lol..everyone is eating and drinking and especially in the theatre no one puts the mask back on after, and there’s no one to enforce it like at the game etc.

Smoking indoors is illegal. Hell smoking near doors is illegal.

While I agree with what you're saying about overall capacity/wait times, that's still a far cry from what COVID can do. Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but pre-COVID I'd never heard of an ICU being so full they had to turn people away.

Not sure how much he paid or if it's a part of some "covid insurance package" but I could think of worse ways to spend 2 weeks of quarantine.

I spent 7 days stuck in a hotel room in a resort in Mexico while sick as hell, I can assure you it's not that great lol. One of the TV channels did at least have a marathon of the 3XK episodes of Castle one day, which was nice.

:lol :lol :lol

I can't believe some people like Euro are still afraid to travel. Come on man.

You think COVID is going to end? It won't. It'll be around with us and is part of the lexicon for the foreseeable future to some capacity. I'm double vaxed, my GF is now triple vaxed, I've already lost out on 2 years of traveling, enough is enough.

How long do you plan to sit around and wait for things to be over, another year, 2 years?

You will never get those years back, thus I'm back to traveling (as long as the destination country's COVID restrictions are not arbitrarily intrusive, such as week long mandatory quarantine upon arrival, etc.)

Wowwwwww antivaxxers in Kelowna interrupting the Remembrance Day ceremony to spread propaganda… they’ve reached a new low of all lows

Not surprising, one of those morons hung homemade signs on the overpass next to the professionally made one Westbank First Nation about how schools shouldn't have graveyards. They used orange paper to boot. It wasn't up for long.

320icar 11-11-2021 11:57 PM

That is a new low. I don’t have any words to say that should be read on a public forum. Utterly pathetic and shameful

68style 11-12-2021 12:20 AM

It would have taken every ounce of mental strength for me to not smash her speaker to smithereens and accept whatever comes of that. I don't know if I could have stopped myself from doing it. Like total rage quit on society.

I know I'm in the minority, but the pandemic has made me realize I'm perfectly ok being a homebody. It's not so much that I'm scared to go out, but I kind of use it as a perfect excuse to avoid going out now or seeing people I don't really want to see.

I was thinking the same thing. If they are smart enough to get vaccinated, would they be smart enough to spray that on the memorial?

GLOW 11-12-2021 07:56 AM

i thought the low was entering an elementary school to protest, but i guess there's so many lows it's hard to compete.

i don't think the spray paint was meant to imply it was someone vaccinated, more a sarcastic comment.
at this point i wonder how many are really about anti-vax/mask and are just straight up anarchists hopping on an agenda to create chaos and disruption?

68style 11-12-2021 08:00 AM

sonick 11-12-2021 11:30 AM

lmao if this gets anti-vaxxers to get vaccinated, I am all for it: https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...detox-rcna4859

anti-vax TikTok video says that you can get around vax mandates by getting the vaccine and then bathing in Borax to 'detox' it out of your system.
