The Vancouver man notoriously known for running a makeshift nightclub in his downtown penthouse earlier this year, despite COVID-19 orders, has pleaded guilty to new charges and is headed to jail again.

According to police, 43-year-old Mohammad Movassaghi violated his court orders back in August by hosting more for-profit penthouse parties, prompting another investigation.

He was arrested on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to comply with an order of the health officer and one count of selling liquor.

He’s been sentenced to 29 days in jail, as well as a year probation, and a $10,000 fine.

The appearance of a variant is not scary in itself - that's why I posted that tweet thread from the doctor explaining that it could mean nothing. But it's still news because it has to be treated seriously, because unlike cold or flu variants, a particularly dangerous covid variants would put us in a world of hurt.

We don't know if this is one or not; it's probably not. But it could be, which is why many countries are blocking flights from Africa now.
