https://globalnews.ca/news/8449956/b...lling-omicron/ According to the latest modelling data, B.C.’s worst-case scenario involving Omicron would be 2,000 new cases per day by Dec. 29. The best-case scenario would be around 1,000 new cases per day by the middle of January. B.C.’s running seven-day average of daily new cases is 373 as of Dec. 13. The province has 44 confirmed Omicron cases up to Dec. 12. This includes 24 in Fraser Health, 11 in Coastal Health, five on Vancouver Island, three in the Interior, and one in Northern Health. A case has been detected in a five-year-old and, currently, no one is in hospital. A vast majority of the cases — 37 — are vaccinated people. |

Turd is considering two types of bans on international travel during the holidays. He met with all premiers online on Tuesday night: https://nationalpost.com/news/politi...micron-sources A source familiar with the Liberal discussions said the government is considering banning all foreign travellers from entering the country for non-essential reasons and putting in place an advisory banning non-essential international travel by Canadians. The ban could include foreign travellers from the U.S., the source said. Though no final decision had been made as of press time Tuesday evening, an announcement could come as early as tomorrow. Turd's tweet: :considered: Justin Trudeau @JustinTrudeau Officiel du gouvernement - Canada I just spoke with Premier @JJHorgan, as Chair of the Council of the Federation. We’re going to convene a meeting as soon as possible with the premiers to address Omicron and make sure we’re working together to keep you safe as we head into the holidays. We’ve got your back. |
Looks like my LMs are staying in Seattle a little longer. Fuckin hell. |
I've been on board with pretty much every government policy thus far, but all the data (NOT YouTube videos!!) I've read suggests that this variant is not very dangerous... this seems like a bit of an overreaction if it's in fact the case. |
I don’t think there is enough data to really know that. There’s really only enough data at this point to determine I just don’t care anymore. Unless the government wants to make magic money appear to pay everyone to stay at home again, or start giving us food rations, we can’t do this again. |
Which is it then? Everyone’s been complaining that the gov has been super reactive and not proactive. So now they’re overreacting? You’re so hard to please 68 :p |
Haha to be fair, nothing they can do is gonna be right at this point. It’s a battle that can’t be won and we are just straight up fucked. I for one embrace our new virus overlords and will behave accordingly. |
I think I only mildly complained about them not shutting down flights from China in the beginning... other than that I think they've done the best they can within a constantly changing landscape. In this instance I think the method is correct, but I'm a little bit questioning the reasoning behind the actions this particular time (assuming the closures of all international travel are true). |
I think sometimes 68style and great68 have messages get jumbled too. Petition for mods to change to 69style |
Can’t wait for Zeta where they start physically removing engines from planes |

It's amazing to see how a year can change a person. A year ago, banning travel was racist. Now it's being proactive?! Why can't they stick with facts when making decisions. Omicron has led to 1 single confirmed death in the world. Omicron, even at its source of discovery is showing just mild symptoms throughout different group of people, and it's not like it was discovered just a day ago and we are taking preventative measures. It has been out for weeks, with many many cases in Canada. And I believe we have yet to encounter a seriously ill patient with Omicron because if there was, it'd be all over the news. It's like banning international travel because of seasonal flu... it's fucking pathetic. |
Who on here ever said banning international travel was racist? That doesn't even make sense lol... other countries aren't homogenous in race. |
People did say banning travel from middle eastern countries to US was racist because the motivation was to keep muslims out “because of terrorist threats.” Intent of policies and actions dictate what it can be labeled as, if that’s what you are thinking of. |
Oh I see yah for sure I would question USA practices at the time... given who was in power... and I remember countries that didn't even have issues being targeted. Anyway... blah... see what Trudeau says later I guess |
It hasn’t been about safety for a long time. Once airlines and CEOs start lobbying against any ban turd will come out and say they considered it but will keep everyone in this grey area where if you’ve got the money, go wherever you want. Dual passport holders will continue to come and go, frequent business travellers etc. but the average schmuck looking for a bit of sun or to cross the border for shopping will be left in the dark. |
^ I can definitely see where you feel that way. You can always look to countries with questionable social welfare and economic systems for more blatant and in your face flaunting of what the rules really mean. It's become very obvious in Asia, for example, that they have returned to a system where travel is only for wealthy people. They can buy the appropriate "business visas" or pay to stay in zones that are accessible within various countries and also happen to be luxury resorts. Just a tad bit galling. More than a few little IG hoho's I scroll through every few days seem to be rather unencumbered in living off their various benefactors/daddies hahaha! |
We have a trip to Mexico booked in March and I’m basically set on going regardless of the circumstances. I can afford to pay for whatever is required to get out of here. My wife’s cousins though who are also suppose to come have a couple kids each, so on top of the $2500 each or so, they may be required to pay 300-600 additional for each person for testing. a $10,000 trip turns into a $14,000 trip for bureaucratic reasons and thus becomes prohibitively expensive for them. Watch any AV vlogger on YouTube, it’s all the same. The poors in economy class get a little sanitzation pack and a bottle of water, sit down, shut up, and keep your mask on. Business class enjoying non-stop champagne taking maskless selfies with the crew and mingling amongst passengers with no repercussions. |
Funny with all the COMMUNISM! rhetoric going around that there’s more class division and unchecked capitalism going on as a result of this pandemic. A few holes in the great reset/redistribution of wealth theory. |

Whether the idea of banning flights from China ever reached Trudeau, it really makes no difference because Trudeau was too eager to keep China happy at the time, so he would never have agreed to it anyway. |

Ah, the Greek alphabet. My weakest jeopardy category |
Just waiting for the zombie variant, where covid reawakens inside the infected after they thought they were cured, and keeps doing so until the host dies, then it reawakens the host so it can go infect others |
Time to put those Bandana face masks back on :joy: |
