You definitely need to line up and get every vaccine that comes out for this but since it's mutating you might spend more days getting shots than not.
It's like Pokemon gotta get em all! Becuz CDC/medical establishment that pumps you with mercury says so. Pull that degree out of your a$$ and tell me who taught you that mercury in any form is good to put in the human body.

The previous infectious disease specialist had a more in-depth interview.

Some of the more important snippets

"Sharkawy said he wasn't trying to trivialize the virus in any way, but that "we have to recognize that 80 per cent or more of people that are afflicted by this are not going to be very sick, they're not likely to to die."

"If it can be a message where we can develop a very good sense of hand hygiene and break the chain of transmission, we'll protect that vulnerable segment of 20 per cent that will be more likely to succumb to this infection and its complications," he said.

He said his advice is to "live your life."

A different doctor put out some newer statistics:
"More than 80 per cent of COVID-19 infections are estimated to be mild, meaning symptoms are manageable and not life-threatening, compared with 15 per cent that are severe and five per cent that are critical and require ventilation.

The percentage of people who die from the illness is currently estimated at upwards of 3.4 per cent, according to the World Health Organization, which is significantly higher than the seasonal flu at less than one per cent.

In patients aged 70 to 79, that fatality rate increases to eight per cent, and for those above 80 years old, it rises to almost 15 per cent. "

From the same article

"Canadians need to understand that the vast majority of us are going to manage well if infected with the illness, with most not even requiring hospitalization, says infectious disease physician Dr. Isaac Bogoch at Toronto General Hospital.

"We know this COVID-19 infection can disproportionately make individuals who are elderly and individuals with chronic medical conditions more sick, but we also know that almost any infection or condition can make that population more ill as well," he said.

Agreeing with someone who has one opinion doesn't make you "correct" compared to agreeing with someone that has another opinion.

This guy's opinion is to "live your life" since of the hundreds of thousands that will die, they will be mostly old people.

I tend to agree with people who have the opinion that more drastic measures need to be taken to prevent as many people dying as possible. Yes, even if they are over 80, and even if they have heart disease.

Thankfully for people in places like Singapore, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, those countries are listening to (IMO) the right advice, and not telling people to "live your life"

I apologize for going after you when Italy shut down their country. You can stop trying to "get me back" because you are coming off as belligerent. You just keep doubling down on these bad takes . We can stop arguing because it really doesn't matter which one is right. Maybe everyone can keep going to concerts and cruises and the virus won't come near Canada. Or maybe millions will get infected, and thousands will die. For the record, I HOPE you're right, and this ends up being no big deal. Unfortunately I'd have to twist logic so hard to see things that way, I can't think like that, but I HOPE all the experts I am listening to are all just utterly wrong. It's times like these that I wish I was a denier and could accept whacky fringe science

IN MY OPINION people who are saying "live your life" and it's not a big deal will be changing their tunes eventually. Unfortunately for the public, if these are the decision makers their governments are relying on, it'll be too late. More people will die than necessary.

It probalby is already mutated but it's likely to mutate to something less harmful. The goal of all life forms is to stay alive and pass down their DNA. It's not in the best interest of the virus to kill the host.

Cancer isn't a separate life form, it's your own cells. They're not invaders.

Sometimes a weaker strain can end up being more deadly in the long run, with the ability to survive and infect more people, while segments of the population are still susceptible to death. This is exactly what happened with Spanish Flu. First wave was killing young people quickly. Then it came back and wouldn't kill them, but spread much wider and killed older and sick people. That's where the huge number came from, killing 3-5% of the planet's human population.

That's kind of what makes this virus such a bastard. It's weak enough that people can have it and spread it around without knowing. It also tends to convince people that there's no problem and they can live life like normal, causing it to spread even more, to the point where entire countries have to shut down.

If this mutates to where it's as weak as the flu with older/sick people, that would be great though obviously. Currently it's about 10-20 times as deadly as the flu for the elderly.

I'm on the sideline on this; I still go to concerts & canucks games & AAA high school B-ball games.

I don't see NBA / NHL shutting down in Canada or even US right now yet. Madison Square Garden seats 10k people.

On the other hand, Spain, with 1,524 confirmed active cases, 135 recoveries and 36 deaths in Spain, 1,695 cases in total (March 10), did shutdown Camp Nu.... they host 99,000k people.

Italy shut down because they couldn’t afford not to.

It’s a money thing, just as it is here with pro sports.

Italy’s been bailed out what, 3 times since 2008? Fiscally they couldn’t afford to not shut down.

And also, as per many tourists still snapping selfies etc. It’s not exactly “shut down”

Spain is at 1600 and US is at around 900. By next week US will be over 2000, that is IF they take pretty strict precautions (and it seems like a lot are, I was just listening to Giant Bomb and they say they'll be working from home from now on)

NBA/NHL, etc, will have to run in empty arenas. It's all but a foregone conclusion by now (that's an opinion right there). IMO Wrestlemania will be fucked as well, since there are cases specifically in Tampa.

That's something I brought up very early in this thread. Not many countries will be able to "shut down" the way China did. To get such an effective shutdown, the people have to literally have no rights at all. \

And then they need to be taught to thank their leader for it. Cartoon villains....

I was at the doctors office today dealing with a back issue. It was interesting listening to a conversation I overheard. Her opinion was the lockdowns are indeed to slow down, or flatten the “bell curve” of the infections. Doing this to not overwhelm the hospitals. She said hopefully it’s over with by July. At this point it’s game on and you just do your thing. Wash your hands, don’t be stupid and carry on. Italians and their greetings, are very close (kiss kiss). Most of the religious european countries are the same way. Even here in Canada for most european imports. This type of contact doesn’t help. Who is the most
Stubborn in this type of contact? Old people. The weak ones.

I was sitting in a walk-in clinic waiting for a friend to come out, when this Chinese woman stormed in to the counter and asked 'DO YOU HAVE MASKS'.

The counter staff told her no, they are for patients exhibiting flu symptoms only. She then (tried to) berate them because they were wearing them, and when she got told NO again she left in a big huff.

Fucking people lol.

Hearing from family dealing with the virus that it damages patients lungs quite badly, so not everyone that recovers is actually recovering fully (not to say no one is fully recovering)

I'll ask if they have any articles they can point to (they're ER gp's/surgeons Seattle, UK, HK) but right now it's hearsay

Side note, was at coq cen, and this older guy was in the washroom, left without washing his hands, then I run into him in t&t loading up on noodles and rice, like a lot of noodles, not sure if he's "prepping" but it seemed like it, think he could be taking better precautions... Like washing his hands after the washroom

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15316239

Effects of sexual arousal on lymphocyte subset circulation and cytokine production in man.
Haake P1, Krueger TH, Goebel MU, Heberling KM, Hartmann U, Schedlowski M.
Author information
Abstract
OBJECTIVE:
Sexual arousal and orgasm induce an increase in sympathetic activity as well as in catecholamine and prolactin plasma concentrations. However, the effects of sexual arousal and orgasm on immune functions in man are unknown. Thus, this study investigated the effects of masturbation-induced orgasm on lymphocyte circulation and cytokine production in healthy young males.

METHODS:
In a crossover design, 11 volunteers completed an experimental condition in which they were asked to masturbate until orgasm and to participate in a control condition without sexual activity. Blood was drawn continuously for determination of endocrine parameters. In addition, leukocyte and lymphocyte subsets were analyzed via flow cytometry, and the production of lipopolysaccharide-induced interleukin 6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha was measured before and then 5 and 45 min after the orgasm.

RESULTS:
The results confirmed transient increases in adrenaline and prolactin plasma concentrations. Sexual arousal and orgasm increased the absolute number of leukocytes, in particular natural killer cells (CD3-CD16+CD56+), in the peripheral blood. In contrast, T cell (CD3+) and B cell (CD3-CD20+) subpopulations as well as the production of interleukin 6 and tumor necrosins factor alpha remained unaffected by sexual activity.

CONCLUSION:
These findings demonstrate that components of the innate immune system are activated by sexual arousal and orgasm.

A bit of a TLDW from the Rogan podcast. Some people asked for some expert opinions I've been following, and "facts", and they don't get much more highly credentialed than this guy. Hope those people will leave me alone until they watch at least the first half of this podcast.

This podcast is a good recap of what the experts have been saying since the beginning. The actual legit researchers, not the goofballs trying to get over on twitter and on TV. Most of this will be familiar territory, but here you go - watch this and leave me alone. Or keep posting and make yourself look like more of an ass. It's your right, since you have a degree, I guess? *shrug*

-He expects this to be "about 10-15X worse than a really bad flu season".

-When asks what that means, he said about 96 million infected, 48 million needing hospitalization, and 480K deaths (in America)

-We'll have to deal with this for at least the next 3-6 months

-China has been slowing it down with their extreme measures, but as soon as they open up again, it will probably go right back to where they were

-The usual "how do we protect ourselves" is repeated. Wash your hands will help, but not as much as has been said since the virus floats around quite a bit. Masks won't help prevent it, but will help a bit if someone gets sick and wears one. N95 is better

-The main point of protection - don't go in crowded areas unless you absolutely have to. Do NOT go to Canucks games. Do NOT go on a damn cruise. The only time you should be in a crowd is to go get food or other stuff you need.

-Also try to stay healthy. The virus killed a LOT more smokers than non smokers in China. If you smoke, I mean you obviously don't care about your health, but if you care about the health of others, stop smoking. Exercise, eat properly. I know, basic shit we ignore, but it matters.

-Closing schools will help, since while kids don't get sick from it, the can still carry it and spread it.

-He's worried that it will be worse in America, since so many people are obese and have heart disease

-He said stopping a virus like this is like trying to stop the wind. There's really not much you can do, except prepare for it (which we haven't done)

-He specifically mentioned that lying to people and saying we are safe from this is even worse than causing a panic. Telling the truth in a factual matter is way more important than trying to just make people comfortable with the issue. This obviously pertains to specific people here. You do NOT want an expert telling you to "live your life" because at least half a million people will die, since most of them are old. My take when hearing this is: Whenever someone brings up the mortality rate of age groups, you can almost always dismiss them. They are basically acting like climate change deniers or anti-vaxxers (which I find hilarious being accused of this by one )

That's about it off the top of my head. If you live in an infected area like Seattle, you do not want to be going into crowds unless it's more important than life. For now, it's a precaution, but eventually nobody will be able to even if they want to, since people more important than us will convince governments to act.
