LOL "most" of us saw this coming and this is only the beginning. But don't worry, they'll downplay it and continue to say "low risk". Just give those possible carriers from the community transmission some time to spread it to other people around them. One week and cases in Canada can easily double. I bet my money on it.

LOL didn't you know they actually have police in the suite to monitor what you say when Xi Jinping was walking by. They were told to say the exact same thing and if you try to say something else good luck to your family (Someone posted video of this and he ask the cops there can he say something else like "Good job china" and the cops told him just keep to the script.

I'll ask if they have any articles they can point to (they're ER gp's/surgeons Seattle, UK, HK) but right now it's hearsay
Side note, was at coq cen, and this older guy was in the washroom, left without washing his hands, then I run into him in t&t loading up on noodles and rice, like a lot of noodles, not sure if he's "prepping" but it seemed like it, think he could be taking better precautions... Like washing his hands after the washroom
Lol Coquitlam center. This is nothing new, saw people touching food and then picking their nose all the time at coq center T and T. Didn't know you live in Coq as well.
That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of when it comes to the toilet paper panic. It must be very boring just staying at home.

My take when hearing this is: Whenever someone brings up the mortality rate of age groups, you can almost always dismiss them. They are basically acting like climate change deniers or anti-vaxxers (which I find hilarious being accused of this by one )
This goes back to my point before: most people only have two modes, which are not giving a shit and full on panicking. I know some people can rationally prepare, but most people will just be causing absolute chaos when presented with the truth. People are stupid, as they say.
Like you mentioned before, the "80-17-3" thing isn't the issue, it's the load on the healthcare system. I have a friend in Wuhan and his dad had hemorrhage right before the outbreak. He is currently stable, but he cannot receive any recovery treatments due to the lack of medical resources.
Given some of the more physical abuse Asian populations are seeing... I think it's the people that will get me, not the virus.

Xi's visit does mean one thing: things are getting better in Wuhan, or he wouldn't be paying it a visit. Silver lining, I suppose.

Trudeau announces a $1 billion plan in response to Covid 19.
It includes:
-$500 million to help provinces and territories with things like buying equipment, increased testing for COVID-19, and enhanced surveillance and monitoring
-$275 million for research for a vaccine
-$50 million to help buy masks and other supplies for health-care workers
The Liberals are also easing restrictions on employment insurance payments for people who take time off work and self-isolate due to illness by waiving the waiting period for benefits.
This would also make it easier for people with more precarious jobs to stay home and avoid infecting others, reducing the disruption to their incomes.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government is already preparing to do more if need be to provide support to Canadians as the situation progresses, including providing EI sickness benefits to those who don’t qualify for the program, such as those who are self-employed and “gig economy” workers.
He also indicated the government is considering what to do with incoming cruise ships to Canada, given the warning from the Public Health Agency of Canada to avoid them because of the risk of contracting the COVID-19.
Trudeau wouldn’t say if there would be a time when the government needs to take stricter measures like community-wide lock downs, such as those in China and Italy.
“It’s not about time. It’s about the situation and the facts on the ground. We will closely monitor what is needed to be done to keep Canadians safe,” Trudeau said.
"We would like the country to realize that as a nation, we can't be doing the kinds of things we were doing a few months ago. It doesn't matter if you're in a state that has no cases or one case," Fauci said, referring Americans to the new federal Coronavirus.gov website for details on precautions to take at home, at work and out in the world.
"If and when the infections will come -- and they will come, sorry to say, sad to say -- when you're dealing with an infectious disease... we want to be where the infection is going to be, as well as where it is," Fauci said.
"Everybody should say, 'All hands on deck,'" he added.

You would think they have to at least be exploring that option with festivals such as Coachella moving to October tentatively.

"We have been told by public health there is no need to cancel events or minimize social gatherings at this point,"
"Canadians being urged to help 'flatten the curve' of COVID-19"Goal is to slow the spread of the virus in order to reduce the load on the country's health-care system
The first inconveniences you'll notice is when they start canceling public events. March Madness will have empty arenas, others will certainly follow.
So forget about concerts and sporting events, but also govt run public facilities will likely be closed as well. Sports centers, libraries, museums, etc. Anywhere that gathers a crowd that isn't essential.
Eventually you may see a lockdown like Italy, where all businesses are closed except supermarkets, banks, and pharmacies (this was announced today).
The timing of this, as cases are growing exponentially in NA and EU, while plateauing for the moment in China
They go on to blame these countries for "alarming levels of inaction" (which some of us agree with) but when the outbreak was only in China they were saying "there is no reason for measures that unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade"
They really are China's bitch, but in a way you can't blame them. If they don't do what China says, they will never have access to the country again, next time there's an outbreak. In that case, the rest of the world would be even more fucked. China already wants to replace the WHO with their own version. So I can see why they play along, although as we see now, it has pretty much fucked over the rest of the world.
But like that Dr said, fighting this is like fighting the wind. Not much you can do to prevent it, just have to deal with it.
I mean, we're all going to die. We might as well live life to the fullest and appreciate what we have now. Instead of worrying about what's going to happen tomorrow. We should focus on today.

BULLSHIT
I think I posted this thought already, but this virus will introduce a paradigm shift that was going to occur naturally, only it will speed it up. Working from home and "home office" is going to be a much more common thing after this.
This is kind of a test run, companies like yours will find out of these people are as productive from home as they were at work. If so, there's really no reason for them to commute all the way there, and they can downsize in many ways, leading to more efficiency as well as safety. I know some people find it hard to self motivate and be productive unless they have some form of direct incentive, so it will be an adjustment. Guess we'll find out!
It might sound ridiculous but I think VR is going to be mainstream eventually, as it gets cheaper and easier to do properly and comfortably.
