If you add people to your home who have been contact with who knows how many people in Hawaii, on a plane, an airport etc. then the risk of exposure is multiplied exponentially.

Think of the contact tracing.

One more thing. My wife and I had PCR tests
Already. Negative tests.

Who said that everyone will get Covid or the variant eventually?

Why would I put me and my wifey at a higher risk of exposure given than our list of contacts is quite small now?

BH said that. If you want to live your life like that then just tell your friends you don't feel comfortable seeing them. It sounds like you guys shut yourself off from friends and family already so whats a couple more gonna hurt?

I don't see people being in contact with people all over the world being an issue. Covid is everywhere. It's here. It's ESPECIALLY here. Me seeing some German guy in Hawaii provides no more risk than me seeing some dude from RS at a restaurant or some lady from Langley on a bus. There's no borders here guys. That's why every time someone suggests or imposes a travel ban it doesn't do fuck all.

Yeah I agree with you about the travel
ban being useless.

The big issue that I have with our BC government, Dickhead Dix, and Dr Henry is that the rollout with booster vaccine is not being accelerated quick enough.

If there are people in their 60s that I Know who have not even had their booster appointment available yet, that means it is more waiting time for the majority of people for that third shot.

Telling people to not party with friends on NYE at their homes is falling on deaf ears too, Dr
Henry.

Just because you're negative at the time of the test doesn't mean you didn't get it while waiting for the results.

And it was Bonnie Henry that said getting infected is "inevitable"

Seems like the vaccination notification system isn't working properly or missing some follks because MG1 had to call in since he never got notified.

For reference, my mom is 65 and she got the notification to book an appointment on Tuesday 1AM. Standard health condition and not immunocompromised.

Spoiler!

Follow-up to the previous post about the situation in South Africa... South Africa lifts most restrictions and is now at its lowest COVID-19 alert level, out of five levels. Restrictions are being removed “based on the trajectory of the pandemic, the levels of vaccination in the country and the available capacity within the health sector,” according to a government statement from Mondli Gungubele, South Africa’s minister in the presidency. “While the Omicron variant is highly transmissible, there has been lower rates of hospitalization than in previous waves,” according to South Africa’s government.

Just wait for your booster then see your friends if that’s what it takes then.
Bonnie Henry and Dix aren’t personally withholding boosters from you so I don’t get why you are so mad at them. As you’ve seen, they are ripping through shots and tests currently. Be thankful you are young and healthy and the shots are going to the people who will be most impacted by the virus like people with pre-existing conditions and the elderly. You have already said you work from home. Your risk is extremely low. It’s your personal decision that you’ve decided restaurants and going to the grocery store are something to be worried about, and that’s fine. People have different risk tolerances, but that said, those who are least at risk, should be last, and that’s just what’s fair. They can’t immunize 4 million people again in just short of a month.

I was eligible long ago and got notified in time, but the actual appointment date I was assigned was like three weeks away.

To get an appointment on the same day I called in, was a little mind blowing. It seems the on-line system is the one that's screwed up - most likely due to limitations. I think calling in right after your eligibility notification is better because of factors like last minute cancellations, as well as, up-to date info on the availability of vaccines. As mentioned previously, pharmacies didn't have vaccines at the time. IMHO, if they really wanted to get boosters into arms of citizens, they need to open up places like the Christine Sinclair Centre again. Then again, cost factor, plus no people qualified to give the shots - they're all at the testing facilities. Maybe that's why the shot I got the other day was so painful, lol. Dude was a noob. So young, he could have been my grandson. Hey, at least the needle didn't break while in my arm.........

My dad went into the hospital after feeling unwell for two days and has been sent home confirmed with covid. Our whole house is being locked down. We might go to a drive-through test site later on today...

I got covid back in Feb 2020, and now i think i got it again...

alright boys (and maybe some girls?), we've reached the end of 2021. here's the numbers:

OT hours in 2020: 154
OT hours in 2021: 540

so when someone chimes in and says "just hire more people" we all just think:

Now, this post isn't to brag or anything. In a normal world, I wouldn't even want to work half of what I did. Plus, I'm truly not special. One of my friends is an RN and she reached 500 hours of OT back in August. She's a mother of two fairly young kids too, I dunno how she does it.

All I really want to say is, if anyone needs to go to the hospital please be patient. Also, be grateful and thank the people who are there to help you. We're all pretty tired and overworked. Feeling appreciated at work can really go a long way.

I hope in 2022 we can find a way to finally declare this pandemic has become an endemic and move on with our lives. Happy new years RS.

What are your thoughts about Dr. Henry considering this move?

Check out this story from NEWS 1130: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2021/1...-care-workers/

Nurses are humans just like us. They are not health care robots. If they have Covid, even mild symptoms, then nurses should be resting at home. Putting them to work in hospitals?

Where is the compassion for our front line medical workers??

This week the top doctor, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said the province is considering allowing health-care workers with mild symptoms to stay on the job in order to keep the health care system from being overwhelmed.

Henry added that this option is one the province will need to weigh as it thinks about “business continuity.”

However, BC Nurses Union Interim Vice President Danette Thompsen says she was “gobsmacked” to hear the province was even considering the move.

“Nurses are not robots. They are human beings, and I’m telling them to take the time they need. They are professionals, and they know when they’re fit to come to work. They know when they’re sick, and they shouldn’t be at work. So their clinical judgment needs to be used as they always do and respected by the rest

Allowing isn’t forcing. Nurses get a lot of sick time available. If they feel ok to do it, it’s now being considered to be their choice. With any illness there are varying degrees. I’ve seen people (not nursing) take 3 inch gashes on their hand and glue their cut together, wash well and throw a glove on and finish their shift and go for beers after and I’ve seen people nick their fingertip and faint and have to go home. Either one was up to them to decide.
The quote from the head of the nursing union conflicts directly with her anger about it.
