Yea, my bad.

I’m not trying to be this constant contrarian but do all these places which allow you to get your vax pass based on recovery have data we don’t? Or is it Canada and turds take on the Canadian public in that if offered that option people would opt for recovery over vaccination and we wouldn’t have the rates we do today? (Which seemingly not working all that well in terms of returning to normalcy..)

It’s kind of fucked to see what other places do, other places with triple the population in Germany allow recovered people to function in society whereas here it’s either get vaccinated or you’re out of society completely.

Would you be taking 4 flu shots within the same year you got the flu?

It's all in perspective I think.

Germany isn't some utopia you make it out to be...fully vaccinated/recovered can go into restaurants via vax-pass, but they also need to provide evidence of booster or current negative test. (Source: https://www.dw.com/en/germany-tighte...nts/a-60355944). Arguably that's more stringent/worse than here. They're also mulling vaccine mandates nationwide.

I can also talk about Korea - they have a similar vax-pass, but you also needed one to go into grocery stores (this, they repealed after backlash). But sitting here in Vancouver you think Korea has gone back to normal life, whereas that's not true at all. My parents in Korea also think Canada is way too lax on everyday restrictions, and that it's far better off here than there. Like I said, perspective.

Or China, where also you think "regular life has resumed", they do shit like this:
Quote:
At an office building in China's capital on Sunday, masked COVID-19 control personnel lugged boxes of pillows and bedding through the closely guarded entrance for white collar workers stuck inside, preparing for what may be days of lockdown as Beijing rushes to prevent the spread of Omicron ahead of the Winter Olympics.

The snap lockdown meant the building in the west of the city was sealed off without advance warning, with everybody inside unable to leave and subject to compulsory Covid testing. The decision to lock the office down came after an employee tested positive for Omicron on Saturday -- the city's first recorded case of the highly transmissible variant.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/corona...cted-1.5742943

Like, yes, things definitely aren't back to normal here, and current restrictions definitely have more impact/effect on some than others. But with bits of information and poorly captions pictures you see on the internet, it's impossible to make an informed deduction on where it's good and where it's bad.

https://www.euronews.com/amp/2022/01...ry-vaccination
Places in Europe and their various stances and plans on vaccine mandates.
Most are requiring health care workers to be vaccinated at least, which is nothing new. Nurses have been required to be vaccinated against things like TB and keep them current with boosters for well before my wife was doing it. Flu vaccines are mandatory or you need to work in a mask (long before the pandemic, pretty moot now)

^ so most of that list uses recovery as a acceptable form for the pass.

I’m actually feeling those Greece policies, start fining the 70+ unvaccinated. Just like I posted before from those Alberta stats, the huge portion of ICU admissions is that 70+ bracket and seems logical it’s the same elsewhere

So, I got my booster at noon today in a Shoppers Drug Mart... this 14-ish girl was before me with her Dad and when she went in, I could hear the conversation with the pharmacist... she asked if she can get the shot in her right arm and the pharmacist is like "Oh are you left handed?" and she said "No, I'm not naturally... but I'm trying to force myself to be to unlock the creative side of my brain."

No words..................

Here is the Global News article on our response to China's allegation:

https://globalnews.ca/news/8518482/c...omicron-covid/

Quote:
Dr. Gerald Evans, an infectious disease specialist at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont., said it was “implausible” that a piece of mail from Canada would have any infectious virus on it that survived intact to result in a COVID-19 transmission event in China.

“SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, does not survive in an infectious form for very long outside an infected host or person,”
Evans cited a study released last week by the University of Bristol that showed that the virus loses 90% of its infectivity after 20 minutes in respiratory particles exhaled by a infected person, with the majority of that loss occurring in the first 5 minutes.

“This doesn’t sound credible at all,"

I dont get why SOF is limiting capacity to 50%, their stores are never packed and social distancing just happens without even trying. Meanwhile shoulder to shoulder jam packed places like Costco and Ikea is ok with full capacity...

290 people in hospital - the system is about to collapse!!!

900 people in hospital - lower the isolation time, if your kid has Covid but is asymptomatic he can go anywhere he wants!

UK also announced today, no more masks in public places or schools, no more vax pass for public events etc.

So I've been sick since Saturday. Tested 3 times all negative but since it's a rapid antigen test, there's an asterisk to that.

I started with a fever, runny nose, and headache on Saturday, which went into Sunday. Monday I was just having a runny nose and a slight fever. Tuesday I started having thick yellow mucus, and yesterday was the same.
Just got woken up by the kid cause he was up, and I don't have my voice.

Wife and kid are sick too with different symptoms.
Wife had a sore throat and a headache for a day, and nothing else
Kid has a runny nose, fever, and some coughing.

We haven't seen anyone or gone to anywhere high risk. The only biggest transfer point is kid going to daycare. At this point I'm 50/50 about having covid because I just don't think the test is accurate when it tells me negative.

UK only did that cause BOJO is trying to give the kids a gift so they don’t kick him out of the house.

The Rapid antigen test will only test accurately 3-5 days after.

Hope all is well tho, this shit sucks.

If that’s what Covid has become then so be it. Once again we fall well behind our direct comparables.

How long can we grasp onto this “be safe be calm!” BS

Even my work place now is like, oh you’ve got lingering symptoms? Well a cough and sore throat sometimes stick around according to us so return to work please

Edit* also Ireland followed suit in the easing, which obviously doesn’t take directives from Boris, so it’s not just an election thing, it’s a reality thing.

IMO, while there is definitely a big dose of truth in what westopher has said, we also have to remember that:

1) The British attitude towards COVID has always been far more lax than we have. General mask use was never anywhere as close to the levels that we have seen here in Canada / BC / Metro Vancouver.

2) The NHS has been under far higher strains than we have here in Canada.

IMO -- and this is obviously only just IMO -- the more casual UK attitude is one of the reasons why UK has always seen higher COVID rates than we have. Of course UK cities have higher population densities than we do too, and that undoubtedly contributes to the higher rates of transmission as well.

At the end of the day, what I'm saying is -- the UK really has a higher need to relax their COVID restrictions because their healthcare and social system will collapse if they don't do this. But just because they do this doesn't mean it is the current gold standard. In fact, it is far from being the gold standard. It's just that Britons have always been realists. So given the predicament that they are in right now, it's just something they have to do.

If we do what the UK is doing, our case count is guaranteed to shoot up.

So turns out Trump was actually right regarding remdesivir:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/corona...ents-1.5746373

And now Canada just approved the Pfizer anti-viral pill that “reduces the risk of hospitalization by 90%”

https://globalnews.ca/news/8516531/c...d-to-know/amp/

Which will of course by prioritized for the unvaccinated here in Canada.

Lift the fucking travel advisory ffs.

So global news at noon just ran this story with the reporter in the ICU in a Toronto hospital. They showed 6 fucking nurses and a doctor having to flip an unvaccinated 80 year old woman on a ventilator

“The outlook is not good”

Hahahaha like what in the fuckkkkkk are we doinggggg

I’m so glad we all “did our part” and more so that 80 year old unvaccinated people can decimate the businesses of young, healthy, vaccinated people. Really great.
