Friend of mine has long covid. He called earlier today to tell me he's at 50% energy level, which is amazing, because his 50% is like most people's 100%. He came down with covid nearly two years ago. Got better and thought it was done and over with. Anyway.................. some people never get over it.

I continue to wear my KN95 mask wherever and whenever I leave the house.

My coworker got it in January or something like that, and she still hasn’t regained her taste. I lost mine for 2-3 weeks and I didn’t realize how horrible it could be, I can’t imagine almost an entire year…

Doctors have no help either, they all just shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

U.S. to require Covid tests for travelers coming from China

Quote:

The Biden administration announced Wednesday that it will require anyone arriving by air from China to provide a negative Covid test, following a surge of Covid-19 cases across China as Beijing has eased its strict zero-Covid rules.

Under the new rules, which will take effect on Jan. 5, anyone two years and older will need to show a negative result from a test taken within two days of their departure from airports in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, administration officials told reporters in a briefing.

The move reflects the Biden administration’s alarm about the potential spillover of new Covid variants linked to soaring Covid infections in China. The Chinese government ended its draconian Covid-zero policy — hinged to mass testing, tracing and lockdowns — on Dec. 7 following mass protests in November fueled by anger about the strategy.

China's allowing Chinese to travel abroad in hopes they'll spread their new wave outwards rather than continuing to spread it like a wildfire within

The videos coming out of China now are insane, with the lineups at crematoriums and bodies piling up in hospital morgues

Certainly a sad situation but it is what the People wanted and the government gave it to them, ensuing into this wild chaos. Perhaps it was a pre-calculated, financial decision on behalf of the CCP.

I hope they are not reading this. :suspicious:

Japan is limiting where flights from China can land.. Of course this includes HK so might fuck over some upcoming trips for us

Today in HK they lifted a whole bunch of rules.. No more PCR tests for arrivals. Gathering rules are gone, no more need to scan your vaccine proof anywhere.. They are getting ready to open the border for CNY and will just let things RRRRRRRRRRRIP. All along "we follow the science" and now boom, nothing matters anymore.

Oh but full mask mandates are stil in effect, including fucking OUTDOORS. FUCK.

They are also promoting vaccine tourism in China, since we have the bivalent vaccine and they don't. They are taking pre-bookings. TBH I am fine with this over milk powder tourism. Everyone should be able to get vaccinated

CivicBlues 12-28-2022 02:42 PM

Yes this will certainly keep us safe this time!

Same way it did with Omicron and Africa last December, and Delta and India before that....oh wait.

Hope y'all got your travel fix before the holidays. I have a feeling it's going to be fucked again for another few months.

According to some doctors and private hospitals the floodgates on infections was already happening before the protests, but the lifting of restrictions just made things worse.

Doctors n private hospitals are mad that they weren't given a heads up so that they could at least try to prepare for the uptick by stockpiling some supplies or trying to get extra beds etc

Conspiracy theorists chime in saying the protests were orchestrated so that the govt could save some face from the ensuing calamity and blame it on the ppl bcuz they gave em what they wanted

donk. 12-28-2022 03:36 PM

Where is Skidz at, he would have a professional opinion on this matter

Does China has some sort of variant that the world doesn’t have? I thought we were just living with it now. It’s rampant in BC.

There's talks of concerns about new variants, but no one knows since China isn't reporting on covid, theyre still claiming their daily covid deaths are in the single digits if any at all

No, they're just not as well vaccinated, and also they took all their safety mandates and social distancing away all at once, without any sort of ramp up to mitigate a huge outbreak happening all over the country at once, or without a good vaccination program first. They stopped reporting on it completely, but polls show that like 70% of the population have covid in certain areas. That's tens of millions of positives per day, and we know a certain percentage of that will die from it (that percentage varies based on different things..)

Of course having a massive pool of a billion sick people with no regulations or vaccines will be a perfect scenario for another mutation or several.

They are doing literally everything wrong.

My gf's mom was in China for 4 months for family matters and she said she got tested by the government 122 times (she kept count) while she was there... which is crazy ridiculous...

She left right before they lifted restrictions, came here, went to a dinner party and got Covid immediately in Canada lol

ilovebacon 12-29-2022 10:34 AM

so are we gonna apply restrictions to travelers from china or what?

Hondaracer 12-29-2022 10:37 AM

That’s racist

She probably had Covid, but didn't show symptoms until arriving here. New strain where the virus detects new surroundings and activates - hey, virus comrades, it's time to activate and spread to new place.............. gulolol.

Can't keep a good virus down.

68style 12-29-2022 11:33 AM

Nah there was a 1 week gap till the dinner party in question and then the usual 3-4 days until symptoms started… I got it too from my gf / being over there but it was nothing to me with 4 shots I just got a runny nose and itchy throat haha

Her dad was kind of bad off but he has other health issues.

yray 12-29-2022 12:46 PM

So like once a day? And they just test via the mouth right? I can't imagine being tested 122 times up the nose. Even the self-administered rapid tests make my eyes water and sneeze every single time.
