Anyone notice a direct correlation to a person driving in a car by themselves with a mask on and being a shitty driver?
It's happened so many times to me. Shit ass driver in front of me, I eventually get beside them > dude/gal with a mask on driving by themselves 
I assume the mentality of being risk averse translates to the same driving habits.

I think there's certainly a portion of the population who are socially deficient (or whatever the term is these days) and masking just further enabled that behavior.

The only thing that's going to be capable of filtering "odors" is a respirator fitted with organic vapor cartridges (which are essentially filled with activated charcoal).

so I guess they do filter smells?

Regular cartridges do not filter smells.
With regular P100 etc. you can still smell concrete dust etc. through them only the heavy duty 2 stage filters like 68 is saying actually filter smells.
So keep wearing the medical masks and telling yourself whatever ya want lol

Maybe you're thinking of fit test with Saccharin or Denatonium solution, which are common.
However, these solutions are detected by taste, they have no odor.
You would only get the banana oil method to check for odor if you're testing a Class A respirator.

Might not eliminate 100% of the odor, but everything helps

Mini rant -- been a regular user of the (actually really nice) gym at my condo pretty much every night since it re-opened... there's always an influx of new years resolution people at the beginning of every year but for some reason this year, a few of them are sticking around and just happens to be none of them know what a fuckin shower or deodorant are! UGH... like the air is THICK in there every time I go in. Gotta prop the doors open to try and get some freshness in.
Besides daydreaming about all the Covi germs that could be floating around, at what point can you tell a rando person that lives in your building to fuckin practice basic hygiene.
