that's how it works with my family doctor too. the receptionist will call us when it's just about our turn. in the past, i've waited 4-5 hours to be seen despite my appointment time lol... wasn't great.
I only went to urgent care once out in Surrey somewhere but the decent part about it was they'd take your info, give you a time to come back (for me it was like 2 hours) and then when I returned in a couple hours I think I only waited 10-15 minutes before my name was called. I'll take that system over "sit and wait here for 6 hours and if you leave and your name is called you're SOL"

Yeah, that's pretty jacked up. I usually only wait 15 minutes at most if I have an appointment and I'm in the office but he's always booked 3-4 weeks out.
When i was a kid and my mom would go or take me to our family doctor back in Regina it was always a 2 hour + wait even with appointment (1980s), hated that.

Mine isn't too bad, but my wife/kids' family doctor is always late...

My family doctor is pretty good. In within 15 minutes of appointment. And, when I'm in there, I don't get into useless conversations and dumb questions......... get to the point and get the fuck out of there. Others are waiting....................

Alberta's hospitals are dealing with a massive uptick in respiratory illnesses, and there's worry in the healthcare system that low vaccination uptake, government messaging and busy holiday get-togethers will make things much worse.
- 44 died from the flu (so far)
- hospitals overflowing with sick people with all respiratory viruses, with flu being the worst

Call me vengeful and vindicative, but I am (almost) laughing at what's happening in Alberta.
You reap what you sow, and Danielle Smith is a vile and horrible premier.
^ Is Vancouver the outlier? Most ppl I know took the flu vaccine this year. I can understand not wanting to deal with the downtime from a Moderna covid vaccine but the flu vaccine is not that bad.
For the COVID vaccine, you're correct -- Alberta's take rate is roughly on par with the rest of Canada.
But for the flu vaccine, the national take rate is typically over 30%, so Alberta is definitely coming up short regardless of whether it is by the national or their own provincial standard.
On a personal level, I know a lot of people have stopped caring, and on that level alone, not caring anymore is OK. But when the "stopped caring" happens on a much broader scale, high hospitalization numbers is what you get, and then it becomes a public health issue affecting more than just those who did not take up the vaccines.
At least BC has a higher uptake rate...

We’re heading into the 4th year of “Somthings gotta change!!!” With the healthcare system, and nothing has for the most part.
What we need to do is bring in immigrants that can work healthcare, but then not recognize their credentials and tell them to take a 4 year nursing degree if they want the job. That's been effective so far.

That's all it ever is, they are the ones at risk
However, the more people who get the flu, the higher chance there of spreading to at risk people

Unvaxxed baby, woo! My whole family didn't take it.
When we had COVID, it was a mild 3-4 day cold. I tested positive with the spit tests 3 times. My symptoms were only fatigue and super sore buttcheeks, feet, and back. I didn't even have a cough! I think my lungs had a thick layer of THC-infused tar that prevented COVID from doing jack shit. My 5 year old daughter barfed in the sink, slept for 16 hours a day for 2 days, and was 100% by day 3. My baby momma was recovered at the end of day 3. I was still shitty on day 4, but that was because I was smokin' joints in the bathroom so my kid didn't find out and drinkin' whiskey. Was fine day 5.
Now it has been nearly 4 years since we had it... 0 re-infections. This is with 0 precautions, a kid in school, and no vaccines. My kid had a few YouTube sick days where she wakes up and is sick until like 11 AM and is fine watching YouTube videos and having a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup.
What a fucking ride life has been since 2020... I wonder if RS members are still boostin' up?

It was the firing from my two jobs along with banning all my social media and losing access to the gym and pubs that was such an extreme punishment, 2020-2024 were the WORST years of my life!

I'm still feeling the effects of losing my two jobs, one as a health and safety guy in construction, and the other, caregiving for disabled seniors.
Also, since I was banned from the gym and pubs, I turned into a massive alcoholic.
This era was the most fucked up time of my life. Still hard to believe they forced Canadians to take an American product, for an American-made illness, for American profits... and if you, as a Canadian, boycotted America before it was cool to do so... Canada punished you SO hard!
The mass manipulation of people was so incredible, and now with the "trade war", the same mass manipulation and propaganda is back... and soooooo many people are falling for the fakery, again:

Haha, I made that IG to promote my 2nd book, it was banned sooooooooo fast.
I was just permanently banned on Facebook for posting a video I made that got me banned off X during the B.C. election. Artists like myself are completely shunned by society because we highlight things that are politically incorrect. Most Canadians have no idea how restricted our speech actually is these days. Make sure to watch the video with sound on, and at the end there is the most crazy fucking thing captured on camera. Make sure you're not eating when you watch this video.
For the record, I didn't record the video, I just edited it together with clips, with permission, and chose the song. I had 100's of thousands of views before my account was banned and I lost nearly 1000 followers, again, because people like myself are not allowed a voice.
