Sounds like you have enough money that you don't need to create the problem for yourself? lol

Why would it need to be fast to go snowboarding? Just buy a shitbox CR-V or something and put basic with no comp overage on it... call it a day... unless snowboarding isn't your actual point

A collector-plated vehicle isn't exactly what comes to mind when hitting the slopes.

Snowboarding is the point, but why can't the drive along the way to be also the fun part of the trip? Most of us on car forums probably enjoy driving. The road to ski resorts are often some of the best roads for driving. Sea to sky is beautiful and cypress bowl is almost like initial D. What's fun about driving a shitbox CRV?

Get it in manual and 4 cylinder, and now you have a lifted RSX. It's a K20

Not to argue but what’s the fun of flooring and E55 for 2 seconds and getting to impound speeds? Maybe a couple times yay but it’s more a “nice to know it’s there if you need it” thing.

It’s way more fun to drive slow things fast than to drive fast things slow as they say.

A limited production vehicle 15 years or older, and
1 of no more than 1,500 of that make and model (not edition) produced worldwide by the manufacturer for that model year.

Can someone please clarify on this - is this NUMBERED cars only?
eg: Like limited like Integra Type Rs (I think they were numbered in Canada...?)
I don't even think Integra Type Rs count....? Because they're considered an Edition, not a model

Or just low number of produced cars? Like the BMW 1M?

Following is correct:

A limited production vehicle 15 years or older, and 1 of no more than 1,500 of that make and model (not edition) produced worldwide by the manufacturer for that model year.

It does not have to be a individually numbered car.

BMW 1M does not qualify because they made about 6000 in a 15 month production period WORLDWIDE.

For Example:

A E46 BMW M3 CSL which they made a total of 1383 units worldwide will qualify.

An individually number 1/500 PT Cruiser Street Cruiser Sunset Boulevard "Edition" will NOT qualify

IS-F might qualify
no, it doesn't have to be 'number-badged'

They sold 2733 units of 2008 IS-F in USA alone. It needs to be under 1500 Worldwide to qualify for collectors plate in 2023.

The later model years numbers are a lot lower, but its very difficult to get the proof that it is less 1500 units worldwide for that model year.

Even if a 2010 IS-F qualifies you will have to wait til its 15 years old in 2025 to get collectors plate.

Maybe ICBC will be gone by then? who knows.

ITR were numbered however they are an edition.
BMW 1M was quite rare in North America (less than 1000 for USA and Canada) but as pointed out it there were far more world wide.

Need to wait for both cars to be 25 years old.

The Integra Type R is a grey area and if you make your argument right. You can make the argument Type R is considered a seperate model from normal Integra GS-R or RS. Similar as a Mustang GT500 is a diffrenet model from a Mustang V6.

I have made the argument before with ICBC collector department and was able to get collector plate sucessfully for a special JDM Subaru Legacy model.

Regardless the more difficult part is to proof the ITR production number worldwide. The JDM production numbers alone is above 1500 requirement for every year except 2001. There is a possibility that a 2001 ITR can get collectors plate if you can proof the worldwide numbers is less than 1500 for 2001. I understand there was only 25 JDMs 1158 USDM. How many Canadian, Uk, Australia ITR is made in 2001? If Honda can provide you that info and its under 1500 then you are golden.

I am just going to wait til next year for my 96 ITR so i havent looked further into ITR numbers.

Oh yeah an update for those of you looking to get proof from manufacture. I emailed Mercedes Canada customer service back in end of Feb and took them about 5 weeks to reply back with this:

"We were advised that a total of 26 vehicles were sold for the ''2005 CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet'' for the Canadian market. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm worldwide production. "

So at least contacting Mercedes was not much help for worldwide production number. I used https://mercedes-benz-publicarchive.com/ for the worldwide production number for my application, but the website doesn't have production count for every model.

Do you guys know similar websites by other manufactures that posts worldwide production number of different models?

There is always some level of argument and leeway with collector plates:

Technically, even on the window sticker of the 2000 Mustang Cobra R it is listed as a '2000 Mustang'. The 'Cobra R' comes from the 'competition package' option selected on the build sheet.

They only produced 300 Cobra Rs for 2000.

ICBC has approved collector plates on at least one 2000 Cobra R here. Because the 'R' is such an important and defining part of the car, with well documented numbers, it is eligible, even if it is a '2000 mustang'.

However, the 2003 SVT Cobra '10th Anniversary Edition' which only had 1,003 produced would not be eligible for collector plates. That is because this car is an edition. It is counted with the 8,394 2003 SVT Cobras.

Editions were everywhere in the 1990s and early 2000s. I would disagree that the ITR is an edition for these collector insurance purposes. A Lincoln Town Car Jack Nicklaus Signature Series edition is just that.

Looking forward to seeing collector plates on you 96!

2001 is very close to 1500 for North America alone. 1173 USA and 185 Canada (I received this number direct from Honda Canada). The hard part would getting documentation of the worldwide number that ICBC would accept.

This was on Hagerty.ca

Most likely NA numbers but technically is Acura Integra Type R different from Honda Integra Type R for the rest of the world?

You can prob make that argument with ICBC. Its a grey area. Yes, Acura belongs to Honda, but it is still a separate company with different ideas and models. Plus the JDM ITR does not look the same as the USDM ITR. Only North America got the bug eye front end. The rest of the world got the JDM front end.

Isn't CSL just an edition of M3 which is also just an edition of 3 series? I'm sure to 99% of the population it's the same car?

On another note, I'm looking into multi vehicle collector plates. Probably looking at private declared value insurance. For the amount of use the cars get I calculated it to be cheaper driving on permits.

M3 is a model on its own, CSL is a ltd edition
Acura is a separate brand/marque from Honda
but apparently ICBC doesn't wanna recognize Olds/Saturn as a defunct brand

yeah count me out of going to the broker then taping a piece of paper everytime i wanna drive a collector's vehicle...even if i seldom drive it works out to be only like $100 cheaper than reg basic insurance for 6 months

Hagerty is USDM production numbers only. The US numbers are widely available.

Bug eye ITR was also sold in other markets such as UK and Europe. You could possibly argue that the JDM front and bug eye front is a different car or Acura VS Honda.

Good luck getting the numbers. It took me months just to get the 2001 CDM production numbers from Honda Canada (185).

Twitchyzero: Olds/Saturn is not recognized because the parent company GM is still in business. It has to be a defunct company not product line/brand.
