Posting this in the case it helps other people stay focused in these times. I have been working from home for about about 5 years and found listening to music playlist can be extremely distracting. Whenever a song changes it causes your brain to bring up some memory or thought, I tried listening to the same songs on repeat which still had the distraction of the start/end of songs being slow/having parts that pull your focus out of what your doing. I ended up starting to create forever loopable versions of my favorite songs to get me pumped for certain situations or just code my face off all day. I try to make all songs when possible to have little to no noticeable change in beat when the track restarts. I created a YouTube channel where I post video versions of all the songs to play in the background, video descriptions have links to download all the songs. Here is the channel, hope it helps
i find a lot of electronic music doesn't have this effect, like trance for example, i can have it going in the background and it's not as abrupt as say top40 when it changes songs
Hondaracer gonna post a pic of himself showing cleavage. Lol

Spoiler!
serious note, for working at home, i realize i'm sitting on my ass a LOT more, those office guys don't forget to stand up and walk around. my area is pretty quiet, not many ppl on the sidewalk and took a walk for the first time in about a month, didn't realize how out of shape i was...

I know what your saying, the thing I find with trance is the build ups are slow and I wish that I could live forever in that "peak". Example is imagine snowboarding or some other sport and your on the perfect line and the song changes, the peak of the song won't hit until you finish the run to the bottom and everything is ruined lol
The Lo-Fi Spotify playlist is my usual go to in the evenings. I sometimes have it playing in the background in the afternoon when I don't have any scheduled meetings. I find that the soft background noise helps me concentrate, and I don't have the music on very loud. Studies show that classical music is known to have a positive impact on productivity and all that jazz.

I tend to just toss on the Drum and Bass channel on di.fm. Not a lot of vocals to cause distraction and the pace makes me feel like I'm being really productive (even if it's just in my head).

I seem to encounter more speeders and reckless drivers on my commute to and from work these days. It's almost as if drivers have come to expect lighter, faster moving traffic and get more impatient when they encounter any congestion. When there was more traffic before the pandemic, drivers just seemed to deal with it better.
Are any of you guys dealing with bosses/superiors/supervisors/managers etc. either beginning to, or are already full-on micromanaging you, because of WFH?
It's killing me.

Nah, WFH in our organization was already a fairly normal thing so no changes really. Quite frankly everyone is so slammed there's no time to micro anyway.

The opposite for me, I hardly hear from my boss at all these days apart from a the usual division check-in skype meetings.

I manage a team of about 30 people and I’ll check in on them once a week or so just to see how they are doing personally etc then I leave them alone. A lot of people seem pretty stressed or at the very least anxious in their general life and work shouldn’t add to that so I try to leave them alone
My boss phoned me for the first time in like 2 weeks yesterday just to say he hasn’t called me in what feels like months lol.. people should be understanding that you do what you gotta do to get through this and adding stress to the situation doesn’t help

Can anyone recommend a decent laptop right now for $500?
Intended usage just youtube, netflix, spreadsheets. Nothing crazy.
I was looking at refurbished business books like Dell Latitudes ~$400 and Lenovo T460s for $500. Thoughts?
Considered Chromebooks if you only need surfing, and videos?
Both the gf and mom use it and they thoroughly enjoy it. Boots in a second etc. They're pretty cheap.

You mean the ones who chit chat to no end when they're in the office? I know the type.
Love my T460! Great solid laptop. My son got the Lenovo X1Carbon, if you can find one used in your price range, even better, it's lighter .. buy it.
Second the Lenovo T460. These are workhorses for corporate use for a reason - durable, very decent ergonomics, and easily serviceable for anyone with decent knowledge of computer hardware.
My wife has the X1 for work. That's even better if you can spend the extra few hundred.

When I tell people what my WFH experience has and continues to be, people don't believe me, because it's a fucking nightmare.
My CEO forces himself into literally every single meeting (3x per week for SCHEDULED 1-1.5 hour "collaboration" meetings, used to be daily but people bitched, often another 3x per week of random meetings up to an hour or more, that no one gets invites for and just gets invited into a group call without any warning), and gets everyone, including his exec team, to tell him specifically what they're working on. The kind of meetings where you could put the entire call on mute for the extent of the meeting and not miss a single thing.
After everyone finishes sharing what they're working on and what kind of successes/challenges they've encountered, the CEO will then spend at least 20-30 mins critiquing everyone, and tell us what HE expects we should do. He calls it collab meetings, but it's the biggest waste of time ever since it's just people reporting to him what they're working on and what work they've done.
The average age of staff in my office is like 55, lots of boomers with not a single clue of how to use any sort of technology (even Skype, they've never heard of Slack/Zoom any of these things), it took our retiree IT guy a good 2 weeks to reroute our office phone line to our Skype Business apps, which didn't work and he got super upset when people bitched at him, literally told the company that fixing IT issues was not his responsibility alone like bruh who else is gonna fix IT issues if it's not the IT guy? Then after he finally made it work, he said he was switching us all over again to Teams and gave us the wrong date for the switchover, so no one in the company received any calls for a week cause he fucked up the dates.
CEO also has no concept of respecting people's personal time, calls people way before their start time and way after their end time (usually 7am or 7pm, never for any productive reason), then gets upset when people don't pick up, and he throws hissy fits (raises voice, uses confrontational/rude tone) about how no one is working and he needs people to be responsible.
Been job hunting since the first week of WFH. Some super toxic shit going on.
Then I compare myself to my gf, who's getting forced into two 1hr meetings every single day where her boss asks her "what is your vision for the business" literally every single day, exact same question. Like is someone's vision for the company supposed to change on a daily basis? LOL.
This WFH shit has really exposed a lot of "leaders" out there as being wholly incompetent and unfit to lead. In times like this, it's obvious who the true leaders are.

Definitely people are getting exposed by this. I can tell poor leadership within 5 minutes usually, but this makes it so much easier. All I need to do is ask someone "so what did you do at work today" and I'll know how poorly managed they are.
The thing is, the ones at the very top aren't going to know what to do about it. All they know is "business as usual" so nothing will come of it in most cases.
