Aside from the shit communication with my company, working from home been good (saved some money). Less gas/transit/food from eating out/miscellaneous expenses. Also you get more time to yourself from not having to commute (easily 1-2 hours minimum a day saved).

Does anyone have any experience with expensing work from home items used solely for the purpose of their home office?

I didn't have an actual home office setup prior to working from home, and now I'm in need of an office chair. The dining table chair that I've been using for the past month is completely deflated and I don't think it's viable to ruin the cushion on all 4 chairs.

I did some digging and it appears the employer needs to fill out a Form T2200 Declaration of Conditions of Employment. Is this something that is done on a case by case basis, or does the employer need to fill it out if requested by the employee?

Ask your employer if they're willing to sign a T2200 in case CRA asks for it. It doesn't cost your employer anything to sign. As long as your employment expense claim is a small amount; This shouldn't trigger CRA algorithms to request for supporting documents. However, it doesn't look like the T777 form by default considers buying capital equipment like an office chair as an expense.

Given the situation with WFH, I think there will be a lot of people claiming work-space-in-the-home expenses on their tax return.

It's going to be an interesting one for the CRA come tax year 2021. It would normally only be applicable if it's a requirement of your employment contract to work from home.

I'm working from home, but my company never said that I could not go into they office, they just allowed people to make the choice to work from home to stay safer. I don't think I could claim this.

Finding that my work day is being interrupted by my infant quite often. I end up sometimes pushing until dinner time and after dinner to try and make up the lost time. Which in turn burns me out because now I have no me time.

Question is, did he put it through the hatch or just the rear door? Probably not the hatch if car doesn't have one. A friend of mine threw his back out the last time he tried to manage an office chair into the back seat of his subcompact. Luckily it had a hatch, so he threw it in there and left the hatch up.

If you don't have a hatch, it should still be alright if you slide it in to the back seats from the rear door.

One time I had a civic sedan as my courtesy car, I had to slide my huge goalie bag into the back seats in from the rear doors. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. Then I parked in the parking lot and realized I couldn't open my rear door full swing to take the bag out with cars in the adjacent stall. So you might have to take the chair out first before you fully pull in if that's your scenario.

We are a non-profit, and income is down. My office is encouraging people to volunteer for hours/wage of 20% for 6 - 8 weeks. I took it. Long weekends sound pretty good, and we have sufficient income that this won't be too severe a hit.

Never ever got the "reduce ur salary" for gov't workers.

Just cause it's shutdown, doesn't mean the city officials who are running issues are working less; in fact, they are working MORE to deal with more issues.

Also have to be careful for those who are given "the offer is only 50k now, we expect to give you back 30% more pay when this COVID is over"
errrr... so you mind putting that down on paper on a specific date when it will be over? CoV declare it over or how your company considers it being over? Who is there to govern....

Working outside all day, the struggle to go to the bathroom is real. Most are closed to the public. I'm having to constantly keep an eye out for secluded areas and bushes as I go from work site to work site.
