This is originally why I got an Insight - no need to worry about fuel mileage and repairs on the fun cars as they're tucked away for the Monday - Friday slog.
dont think you can deny the value in the fords like ecoboost mustang, focus and fiesta but op seems convinced they're bad buys
My Fiesta ST has been awesome. It's my first domestic after decades of Japanese cars, and worth the money spent. It doesn't give off a feeling of super high quality, but it is a Fiesta the way you don't expect a Yaris to feel super high quality either. Great car if the size fits your lifestyle.

If you have the garage space and the fuel savings are enough to offset the insurance, maintenance, repair, and depreciation costs, sure.

i knew they were made of NSX aluminum but my goodness...sub-2000lbs
60mpg and brake regen in the 90s was unheard of
are parts extremely hard to find?
205/50/15 is one the reasons I am back to tracking ITR again.
RE71R for 1M = $1800
RE71R for ITR = $600
The Miata is a great choice as a fun car. Not so much as a daily. Plenty of good suggestions in here.
don't forget the brake pads and rotors lol.
With the stock solid ITR rotors you can still machine them when you change brake pads, unlike the slotted and crossed drilled rotors.

60 mpg is the average. It can go into lean burn on the highway (25:1 AFR) and get over 100 mpg.
Parts are available though beyond the hybrid battery, where there are multiple upgraded aftermarket options, there isn't much to replace beyond consumables.
Looks are polarizing however so I personally wouldn't show up to a client's with one - especially knowing BIC is client-facing

I’m just gonna bump this again. Why look at sketchy euro cars old enough to be in a girls gone wild VHS that will require 10k maintenance real fast. Just get a couple year old hot hatch and reap the rewards
It's nothing against Fords actually, I'd probably buy a Taurus SHO for a sweet 365HP daily that you can use regular gas in.
It's cause I don't want to drive FWD for a fun car. The 2015 Civic is probably not the best example of a FWD car, but I still drive my 330 every now and then (its still insured) and even making simple right turns is so much more fun. Downshift to 2nd, turn, no understeer.

I never said Ford this time, I just said hot hatch. A DSG golf R is infinitely better than an RS
Edit: just to talk on your second point. You’ve done track days with TSS and you were in group C. Did you ever go watch group A? Did you see how almost every one of them are FWD Honda’s? Not saying you’re wrong for having a person preference but any real car guy should know how amazing a properly set up fwd car can be. Unless your just doing drag racing around richmond streets or one tire fire’s around intersections ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ any Duffy lake run would be equally as fun in a new CTR as it would be a vette
Yeah so in regards to TSS Track Days, Kalson actually mentioned that his grouping isn't based on lap times but rather driver awareness.
I didn't get a chance to watch Group A from the sidelines, but I was in the 996 Cup Car for all the sessions. I barely saw FWD Honda's aside from the EK and the ITR.
I agree that a properly set up FWD car would be loads of fun, but I think to set up a FWD car to induce oversteer or to handle well is more difficult than getting a RWD car. Or maybe I just like RWDs (read: BMWs).

I got out of the bmw game years ago after owning 4 or 5 or so and I’d never ever want to go back. So I just thinking being a brand loyalist is weird. It’s like only going out to sushi restaurants. While good, there’s so many other great cuisines out there
I like 370z out of those choices. They are quite capable on track.

^^ they’re great to drive. With a classic exhaust like an HKS with an x pipe they sound amazing. They also feel like an old school Japanese muscle car. Obviously not in power delivery but the low seat, high windows and long hood
So I drove a FA5 (8th gen civic si) today, right after getting out of my 9th gen civic with the shitty Prius tires. I've gotta say, with the LSD in the FA5, there's not that much understeer that I can notice. Torque steer is pretty evident, but again with the LSD it's not too bad.
Definitely has revhang tho. It's worse than the E46. But better than the FB6 (9th gen si)
