Lease is coming up on my Civic hatch, would love to upgrade to the Accord 2.0T with 6 Speed Manual.
Reviews all say pretty nice things especially about the 2 liter motor. Supposedly the same basic block as the Type R motor but with a smaller turbo and other de-tuned parts.
Yeah yeah go and test drive but with COVID right now I don't want to be in a car with a salesperson until I know a bit more about this car and don't need to ask them too much.
Any one here have first hand experience driving one?
I test drove a 2018 Sport 2.0 with the 6MT. I really liked it. Definitely on my short list when I finally trade in the 3 series.
If you’re comparing to the 2016+ hatch, I feel the materials are a lot nicer in the Accord and the touchscreen display is definitely nicer and more responsive. Lots more space in the rear seats and trunk. Not sold on the LCD tach (can’t display fuel economy and tach at the same time? Lame). I wish you could get some of the Touring features in the Sport (or that they offered the Touring with a 6MT). Dealer-installed options are pricy.
If you want a manual mid-size sedan under $40k, I believe it’s the only option.
One thing you have to remember - it's still an Accord first and foremost. People over-hype it as a "sports sedan" but it's not. It's fast, comfortable, slightly sporty family car.
Great interior space, materials and lovely motor. I only drove the 10-speed version.

You will notice the red stapler everytime you see it now
I was just thinking the other day if anyone had a painted overlay/piece that could cover up that part of the tail light. IMO would look quite a lot nicer.

Pretty much right? As mentioned below by JDMDreams I specced out a base G70 RWD 6MT. That is a 50+ grand car said and done. Wish it was in the budget...
Although I would probably go for a 2er or 3er by that point in manual lol.

In the words of the Stephen Root as Milton in Office Space
"I believe you have my (two) stapler(s)?"
I think the taillight has grown on me at this point...

These things are the points that draws me towards this car.
Most reviewers have noted that while is fun to have that much power in a stick configuration on a family sedan, it does have quite a bit of torque steer due to the turbo and FWD.
I wish Toyota would put out a RWD stick option with 4 doors here.

There absolutely is for the 1.5T Auto/6MT and 2.0T Auto... My guy tells me there are 4 to 5 manuals available in 2.0T though
I’ve been watching the 2.0 6MTs for a few years and they seldom seem to stay on the lot very long. There are so many 1.5 6MTs out there in manual (Most dealers seem to have at least one 2019 still, many have multiples) and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could get a solid deal on that, but having driven both, I would definitely opt for the 2 myself. 1.5 doesn’t feel anemic, but doesn’t feel strong either. Plus the possible oil dilution issues (which were supposedly resolved starting 2019 model year but you still see some reports crop up online).
I would test drive the manual and auto if you can. The manual doesn't make the car anymore "fun" sure you get to row your gears but it's no where near as slick as s2k.

That's how the China market Honda Accord looks like, well similar to the photo above.. It's called the Honda inspire.

I owned two Accords before: a 2008 Coupe V6 auto(first car, long since sold) and a 2008 Sedan I4 manual(winter car in Alberta, flood totaled recently).
Personally, I would just go with the less powerful one. The V6 had a lot of trouble with traction at low speeds if you are just a little too heavy on the gas. The extra power is just really good for passing on highways IMO. The I4 is more economical and has enough power to get me to places. If I want something more powerful, RWD w/LSD please and thank you. I want to actually be able to put the power down.

Honda manual transmissions IMO are pretty meh nowadays. I played around with the manual trans in a 18 Golf and a 16 Elantra and both are better than the new Civics I tried. Both have more clear patterns and feel more satisfying than the Civic.
Honda started using CVT on the Accord since 13 and it seems like they are holding up well, so I wouldn't lose sleep over reliability like I would do with a Nissan CVT.

The 2.0T wont have a CVT it has a 10 speed which is 10x better than any CVT.

Thinking they never brought in that many manuals
Even with 4-5 Im still sure you can negotiate a good deal. Accords are a tough sell nowadays. Everyone that had Accords are buying CRV's now. 90% of my Accord lease clients would get a CRV or Pilot.

I 100% agree with this. The 10 speed in the Accords are actually pretty nice and peppy.

I know, 1.5T gets the CVT while 2.0T gets the 10AT.
I haven't driven the 10AT before but I have driven a Civic 2.0 with CVT. Surprise surprise, I don't mind it. I don't get the hate, personally.
gotta go try these newer Honda MTs myself
is it simply the feel? or is it due to rev-hang?
i agree even if it's a peppy family car, i'd probably take the automatic

Ah, you just have to remind me of the rev hang...
At least that's easily fixable with a KTuner or Hondata. The transmission feel, on the other hand, is not easily fixable.

What happened to you, RS? You used to be cool.
Honda kinda abandoned VTEC themself with the turbo engines. From an engineering perspective, it's not needed on the intake anymore while it can help with the exhaust side: low lift in lower RPM can help spool turbo up faster with higher flow velocity. The Accord 1.5T has VTEC, not sure about 2.0T.
And I like 3 pedals, just not the Honda 3 pedals in particular. They are mediocre at best IMO.

FWIW, the Honda CVTs up to 2015 are different from the CVTs used in 2016+
My friend's 2016 Civic drives much much much nicer than the 2015 Civic that I have with the CVT. I'm not sure if it's a whole redesign or if it's just a different tune. But the 2016+ drive much more like a simulated automatic, whereas the 2015s you can tell its literally one gear.
