GE's appliances dept sold to Haier years ago.
Haier is more of doing funding. Not intervene on how GE do things.
Still same factory in U.S., same quality control.
As for Haier brand, i would stay away...LOL
Sold 5 of Haier all in one laundry unit. 3 have issues.
But some of entry level GE appliances are sharing same model with Haier.
As for hood fan.
Take pic of your hood and cabinet.
So, i can see details and give you feedback
Good to know.
In terms of tier/quality, is it GE Monogram > Cafe > GE (normal)?
I'll snap a picture if my offer gets accepted tonight before 11:59PM EST
This thread scares the shit outta me. My new place is fully reno'd with brand new Samsung appliances. Since it's all brand new - they should be covered under warranty, but I assume I'll need the sellers to produce invoices/sales receipts? How does a warranty process usually work?

First thing you need to do is, find original invoice/receipt.
Contact whoever purchased it. They should have invoice.
If they didn't keep the invoice. Ask them where they bought it from.
Then, you can go to the store ask for invoice.
Because warranty starts by delivery date of the appliances. Warranty claim needs document to prove date of delivery.
Some brands, the warranty starts from installation completion date. Such as Sub Zero/Wolf/ Miele/ Gaggenau...etc.
My buddy is a property manager, mostly newish condos. He always says stay away from euro stuff. Stick with ge, whirlpool, the domestics.
Why stay away from the Euro stuff? Going only by what was shared in this thread, it appears the Euro stuff is holding up solid. Unless the Euro stuff in the condos your friend is managing are bottom of the barrel line of products, then I guess the same can be said about any brand, no?
Find your budget first.
then, balance out in each appliances in your budget.
As for brand recognition, Gaggenau > Miele = Sub Zero / Wolf > Thermador = GE Monogram > JennAir > GE (GE, Profile, Cafe) > Electrolux = KitchenAid > LG > Samsung > Maytag > Frigidaire >Whirlpool > Amana
Also, each brand has its own strong category.
Such as Sub Zero is known for building best fridge in years. But it costs same as a toyota corolla.
Fridge and Laundry, go for LG for sure. Bosch is not bad too, now it has dual compressor in its free standing fridge. Its quite amazing.
Microwave, go for Panasonic for sure...i think most of us know it.
Dishwasher, Bosch is very famous with their Dishwasher. Cost round 1000 +/- , anything lower than that, i wouldn't touch.
Gas range, go with GE Cafe or profile...hands down performance compare to other brand. Except Professional brands such as Wolf or Miele...etc.
Electric range, i would go with Induction range now, but need to make sure your amperage is enough to supply. Super fast and safe!!! high heat and super easy clean. Never stick. GE Cafe again the winner.
.
You haven't experienced any issues with LG compressors?
If I was buying a new 36 inch freestanding fridge today, I would get the newer Bosch with the dual compressors/evaporators. However, reliability is unknown as they only came out last year, and their previous freestanding fridges were outsourced and built by someone else

We are aware of that issue from the news.
But I have not have any clients experienced compressor issue with LG so far.
As for Bosch dual compressor fridge, its probably best performance free standing fridge on the market without costing over $5k
And you are right, no one knows its reliability yet as it just came out not long ago.
Previously Bosch free standing fridges were built by Daewoo as i remember

Will places like Best Buy even give you a receipt if you aren't the original owner? Isn't that a violation of privacy? And if they do, would you only need the serial number?

It can get complicated. really depending on situation, who you dealing with.
As you said because of violating privacy law. Yes, The best way is to get original owner to ask for invoices.
If they do end up giving you original invoice/receipt, then, manufacture will need proof of delivery date thats printed on the invoice.
Manufacturer will also ask serial number of the products during warranty claim.
For some companies/shops.
You will need to bring occupancy documents that proves you are the new owner.
Because warranty is provided by Manufacturers, so some shops will help contact manufacturers in this situation.
Myself helped a lot of new apartment owners to claim their warranty by going this method and without needing of giving out original invoices to new owner.
Because we submit original invoices directly to manufacturer, and also updated new owner info with manufacturers.
So my offer is pending acceptance, and what's left is an inspection. Out of all the major appliances in the household, the washer/dryer were not replaced. I believe they are original Maytag units, probably around 18 years old, but may be less than that.
I recall seeing the Maytag washer/dryer with something "commercial grade" on the label. Not sure if it means anything to you. Any point in replacing them? I would prefer something that is stackable (but not necessary) and more energy efficient. Could you offer a few recommendations? (Please no Samsung haha) Let's leave budget out of the question for now.

If its 18 yrs old, i would totally replace them.
Those old Maytag machine last forever!! But they are just not very efficient.
Most energy efficient laundry set will be with Heat Pump Dryer.
Heat pump dryer (Ventless) recycles the heat to be super efficient in energy consumption. But as i know, Heat pump tech only can be found in compact size dryer.
Here are the recommendations.
Full Size: LG WM3800HBA/DLEX3900B Set. Or WM3700/DLEX3700 Set
Compact Size: Miele WWH860WCS / TWI180WP Heat Pump Set.
Nowadays, 99% front loaders can be stacked.
Here is the check list we need to verify first.
- Usable Space (Width, Depth, and Height)
- What are the Power available in there ? (110v and 240v)
- Location of the Vent for dryer
There are two standard size on the market.
1. Full Size - 27W, 30D, 39H (78H when stacked), Washer capacity: 5.2 cu.ft.
Required Space: 29W, 35D, 80H the best.
2. Compact Size - 24W, 25D, 34H (68H when stacked), Washer Capacity: 2 to 2.6 cu.ft.
Required Space: 26W, 30D, 70H the best.
Different brands, have different depth. But width and height are almost the same across all brands.
If you don't have enough space in depth. Some dryer can do side vent, it will shave out 3-4inch in depth. But, then width requirement increases by 5inch.
I "think" the current washer/dryer is original (looks ghetto) and full size, but I could be wrong.
Is there a reason why you recommend LG washer/driers? I may be more interested in a compact size as I may want to build a new powder room on the main floor. Any other recommendations besides Miele? (Shit is baller man haha)

Full Size i recommended LG, the reason is because, its very durable.
We rarely have service call for LG laundries. As for performance LG is on top as well.
Myself is also using LG, its 12 yrs old and still running. I have 4 cats in the house. My wife has to do laundry 3-4 times a week.
These are the with Heat Pump dryers, myself would buy.
LG, Bosch don't have heap pump dryer yet, so, not listed here.
Blomberg, and GORENJE, Germany brands both carry heat pumps dryer.
they both are around $2800 -/+, But i do not like their quality personally.

If you don't need to have the latest and the greatest, I would keep the Maytag. For the dryer, if it isn't too fancy, it would likely last forever. Yeah, it's probably not that efficient, but I recall doing the math years ago to determine whether it was worth buying a new washing machine. Yes, a new machine is much more efficient (much, much more) than my old machine, but what does that mean in real dollars, based on the electricity rates at the time that only meant a savings of $50 or so per year. If that new machine costs $1k, I would need to use it for 20 years before I realize any real savings; a new machine might not even last that long. That old machine, it still works great!
It's akin to people buying a new Tesla, not because they need a new car, but to save on gas! Okay, you save $2k per year in gas, but you just spent $40-50k out of pocket on the new car.
I don't "need" a new washer/dryer. I want a new set in order to make room to build a powder room beside the laundry room; the current set is not stackable. If I could stack them, this wouldn't be so much a want or need.
Completely understand the cost savings and amortization of the upfront cost of the new washer/dryer - I totally get it. But I don't know the condition of it, and whether it's worth keeping. I don't plan on being at this place for more than 3 - 4 years, 5 max. New appliances will go a long way for resale.
I've seen non-stackable units stacked by building a counter/shelf that the dryer sits on. If I had the time I would've liked to do that myself so I don't have to try to move the two of them together should one need to come out.
