I was stuck in the traffic trying to get home from Whistler for several hours, I feel for the father and children that needed to be heli-jetted to VGH. Lots of rumours flying around town but from witnesses that I spoke to on-scene: there was speeding, racing another super car, filming, and one car trying to flee the scene; regular rally fucktard behaviour every year.
From what I have read a Range Rover and Huracsn were racing, sideswiped one another and then careened into a vehicle with a family of 5. Medivac had to come in for people from the latter car.
Range Rover supposedly ran and tried to hide. Highway was closed both ways for many many hours.
Terrible news for the family and kids. Throw the book at the Lambo and Land Rover drivers.

As much as the diamond rally is for a good cause, something either needs to be done by the organizers to stop behaviour like this before it starts or there’s no way it can continue. People use the guise of it being a charity event to excuse terrible decision making and disregard for the regular public on the road. I sure hope the people that were hit end up ok. I’m sure a lot of the people that were involved in the event are just appalled that this happened.

These rallies need to be held at a more controlled environment, like, I don't know, at a designated track, and not on public roads. There are a few charity events similar to this in Toronto where public streets are closed off with a lot of police presence, or the entire event takes place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and is generally restricted to the public.
I can imagine this sort of thing can only lead to a slap on the wrist, and VIs issued very every other 90s Civic with a broken muffler.
Hoping for the best and speedy recovery to those hurt as a result of the reckless behavior.

Devils advocate here: they rent out pemberton airport and do drag racing in a controlled environment, and out of 200 cars 99% of them behave perfectly fine on the street for the drive up.
But that leaves the 1% left and shit happens as seen here. I was stuck in pemberton and had to take the Duffy loop back. I think this will probably be the last year of the event. Every long weekend some shit happens on the s2s and something has to be done

They start the rally itself in Vancouver though, I'm sure the group/herd mentality makes people more likely to act like idiots than if they drove up separately unorganized.
Also this was yet another police escorted 'event':

I’m well aware of how the event starts. And unfortunately everyone knows how this event ended.
I drive the s2s maybe once a year. Fucking hate that highway. Always closed down for massive accidents whether idiot vacation drivers, motoGP superstars running from the cops or rented Lambos crashing
Hopefully everybody will make it out of this accident alive, it'll be interesting to see how the insurance company will figure this one out. Alberta plates: lower insurance premiums, no luxury tax, no pst, etc. Its all good until something catastrophic like this happens
That would explain why someone in the traffic jam needed medical attention.
Posts are being deleted on Hublot Diamond Rally IG and people are posting all kinds of hate towards the organizers and participants.

The CBC article says charges are being considered against the driver of the Range Rover but it doesn’t mention anything about the driver of the Lamborghini.
