But make sure you check the package date - with the California rolls I noticed package times anywhere from a few hours ago to morning the day before. I made the mistake of getting the previous day's sushi and the rice was hard.

Yes. I did check cuz all the nigiri except mine was from yesterday. I was like hells no.

That’s why I didn’t buy any sashimi either. Same, packaged yesterday.

I tried the sushi ! It’s decent for the price. Not super fantastic but better than tnt sushi by a country mile.

GLOW 08-13-2024 02:30 PM

is it like garden sushi quality?

mikemhg 08-13-2024 03:35 PM

Eww, something nasty about the idea of eating sushi from Costco.

You guys are savages.

Badhobz 08-13-2024 04:13 PM

What did you say !!?!?!?!?!?

How dare you sir !!!! How dare you !!!!!!

EvoFire 08-13-2024 04:15 PM

I'm tempted by the nigiri box. It looks like salmon, red tuna, tuna toro, and hamachi for $35. That's a steal if the quality is better than Sushi Garden.

I don't usually like mass-produced grocery chain sushi, but this Costco one is solid. It's better than Sushi Garden, but my food standard is pretty trash compared to the general impression I get from here.

Anyhow I liked it enough the first time that I ate the whole tray in one sitting.

bcrdukes 08-13-2024 06:08 PM

:peek: RS standard is like Michelin 3 star so yeah, radeonboy, your food standard is trash. :troll:

winson604 08-14-2024 12:55 AM

Haven't tried but my expectations for the sushi is luke warm at best. I say this because I got some at the costco in Japan recently and mid and I can't expect ours to be better. This of course was having realistic expectations going in and not trying to compare it to restaurant quality stuff. That said, I always say there's a time and a place for everything. I like my ballin sushi but I have no problem hitting up some mid korean joint and for the price there are situations where I would hit this as well. Just nice to see new options.

murd0c 08-14-2024 07:11 AM

for the same price at a sushi restaurant by my house I can get a 20 piece sashimi combo that's top notch quality and I don't have to worry about pissing out my ass later. If the Poco Costco ends up getting sushi I will try it because why not.

Badhobz 08-14-2024 08:14 AM

As radeon said, make sure to double check the PACKAGED date. don't buy the day old stuff, the rice will be terrible.

I also found that letting it sit out and achieve room temperature before consuming makes it even more delicious. if everything is too cold, it's no good.

twitchyzero 08-14-2024 08:37 AM

do the card scanners let you go by without membership to access pharmacy which doesnt require it?

nope you need scan your card to enter the store now. They wouldnt let me in with out scanning it last week.

EvoFire 08-14-2024 10:15 AM

How strict are they with the correct person using the card? Can I say send my mom in with my card to get things because I'm too busy?

Also can you still loophole things with a giftcard nowadays?

Hehe 08-14-2024 10:16 AM

I just tried the sashimi plate the other day when I had dinner at friend's place. I first thought it was Sushi Garden.

So, it's at least there in term of quality and I wouldn't complain for the price.

They are quite strict now. At least for Asian. :fuckthatshit:

The other day I was there with wife and we couldn't find a parking. So I just gave my card to my wife and ask her to grab the 2 items we wanted.

Ended up having to go in myself as they wouldn't let her use my card.

Used to do that for my mom. She said they made her to to customer service and register with her ID and said she can only do this once or twice a year.

My parent got dent accessed with GC only last month.
They used to use the GC loophole without showing membership

noclue 08-14-2024 11:14 AM

IMO it's a good thing Costco is clamping down. I've heard of them cancelling memberships to those serial return abusers, like the ones who return christmas trees after christmas or TV's after the superbowl.

bcrdukes 08-14-2024 12:17 PM

Badhobz, watch out!

Hondaracer 08-14-2024 12:23 PM

The card scanning is pretty clearly for data tracking, brilliant on their part.

By scanning your car upon entry they know exactly where you’re going and how much time your spending in the store

GLOW 08-14-2024 12:39 PM

i think PC optimum points is S tier data tracking/mining, they track when/what/how much you purchase, and can tailor coupons based on your purchase history (that's when you know they're farming the F out of your data), but the points just encourage you to be OK with it and keep going. i'm sure they track how much i buy gas from esso now that they're partnered with them.

Mikoyan 08-14-2024 01:07 PM

Companies have so much data on us.

Target had to detune their data mining algorithms.
In one case the algorithm started sending baby/pregnancy related coupons to a high school teen. Her dad went and cussed out the local store manager. Couple weeks later he went back and apologized as she was in fact pregnant.
Apparently her purchases of unscented bath/beauty products matched what other women in early pregnancy would buy.

they're gonna be hella disappointed at my data when they see i only spend $7.99 each trip and spend about 8 minutes in the store each week. Watch them ban me :moderatorban:

twitchyzero 08-14-2024 05:55 PM

d/t location? sometimes it takes 8 min just to find parking

Is that the price of a rotisserie chicken? :)

PeanutButter 08-14-2024 07:26 PM

The sushi I got from Burnaby Costco was so garbage. The rice was so bad, it was mushy and disgusting. Never buying sushi from Costco again. Their pricing isn't even that amazing.
