I was at the Brighton Avenue Costco. As I was leaving, these two high school kids wanted to get into the Food Court. They were refused entrance. I was going to help get them in, but I'm too asian - these guys were your typical white, high school jocks. Plus, could be seen as a little creepy, jbol.

No card, no $1.50 hot dogs!!

Hondaracer 09-30-2024 10:11 AM

Gotta pay to play!

Badhobz 09-30-2024 10:35 AM

Downtown bums can still get in no problem

This bum saw me carrying sushi out and asked if I could spare him 2 dollars so he could get a hotdog. I told him to get a job instead

Bitch

Hondaracer 09-30-2024 10:45 AM

Yea funny downtown is a bit of an anomaly where it’s actually encouraged to use the concession without a membership..

Probably due to the proximity of bc place and rogers, wouldn’t doubt they actually make money from that one

Badhobz 09-30-2024 01:25 PM

not with the snails pace they move it. Literally understaffed everytime im there.

There's this tall eastern european guy who yells out numbers with a eastern european accent. DA? FORTEEEEEY TWOOOOOOOOO

U NOT FORTEEEYYY TWWWOOOO

and hes super nice but SUPER slow. I dont blame him though, its the lack of Filipino old ladies in the back.

Try Di Fara / L'industrie next time

The fig jam bacon slice with some hot honey on top, jesus

Noted. I'm a bit of a pizza traditionalist so normally get a Margaritia or pepperoni but I'm willing to experiment.

Hey as a NYer transplant is it wierd to ask for a fresh pizza before grabbing a slice? The slices and toppings were good, however I hate it when the reheat it in the oven and makes the crust hard.

tbh I haven't thought about it that deeply

there's always a wait at L'industire so i'm pretty sure theyu're making it fresh.
John's on Bleeker street only sells whole pies as well

even TO have to have cards scanned now... i wonder what the rate of catching people nowadays without membership.

I suspect the card-scanning on entry is not only about membership verification.

On the surface, sure, but they can now also do things like track how long you spent in the store, what you bought during that duration to figure out where you spent most of your time, etc.

And if they ever wanted to identify someone who was in the store at some point , instead of looking at 44 different camera angles they only have to look at one.

All that said, I don't mind it.

GLOW 10-03-2024 09:09 AM

i wonder if it's also a method of theft deterant, people without memberships just walkin in and trying to steal stuff. maybe they think that most thefts are from non-members.

doubt they need that info. how long i spend there wont make a diff. Esp. when they can't track where i'm at within the isles.

Costco will forever see me buying same groceries stuff and never tires or make up / oils / shampoo etc.

They also won't know when i leave and only if I hae purchased. Of course the hours when it's free samples i'll stay longer than the nights when I'm there at 8:15PM on a weeknight.

come on... there must be 1 or two dudes at costco who's on here... chime in!

Badhobz 10-03-2024 09:45 AM

They know exactly where you were based on what you purchased.

Same goes for the time, the time from when you scanned in to when you paid, I guarantee you they are squaring up all that info to adjust stores and shoppers habits

68style 10-03-2024 05:37 PM

I can't understand all the people who block up the entry looking for their card to scan... like bitch what are you doing you had to show it to the person previously anyway, what changed??

They're not going after you individually, but likely tracking general consumer behaviour. To use your own example they'll be able to see what % of people go in, but don't buy anything. Or go in, spend 2 hours and buy $14 worth of apples only. Etc.
