That race car I had as a kid could be rebuilt into a couple other things like a plane and something else. I remember most of my sets as a kid could build into multiple things.

i used to think that too, then i realize i woudl never take it apart and rebuild it all over again. maybe that's just me

There are a few different kinds of legos.

There are the display sets that are geared towards adults
There are the play sets geared towards 5-10 year olds
There are the girl sets targeting girls (duh)
They still have the loose creativity sets where you get a bucket of pieces and let your imagination run wild

Lego still has a philosophy where they try to not create new specialize pieces as much as possible. The modular buildings typically do not get newly designed pieces, and very rarely they get pieces molded in new colours. Though some of the regular pieces are getting quite large and takes the fun out of building the smaller sets.

Funny side note about Lego, prices have really gone up in North America.
A few years back when the Technic GT3RS was released, I happened to be traveling to HK and they had the set listed at $3200. IIRC it was listed at $349.99 in Canada which made it a phenomenal deal to buy here.
Fast forward to 2024. The McLaren P1 was released this year and the MSRP is $589.99. I was just in HK and the set is selling for $3399 in the HK Lego Store. The price hasn't gone up much and it's actually cheaper by about $80 CAD to buy in HK after you factor in taxes in Canada.

My parents are traveling in China right now and they just sent me a picture of the AMG F1 Technic set. That was selling for $999.9 RMB. The same set is selling for $289 here, which is a saving of ~$100

It's MAKING A COMEBACK :awwyeah:

Fuck these stupid Costco batteries…

So about 4-5 years ago bought a car battery from Costco, eventually the car was pretty sluggish turning over until eventually after a short drive the car wouldn’t start. Used one of those cheapo ciggerette lighter testers to test the alternator and it read good still.. so brought back the battery to Costco and got a new one. That was probably 2 years ago

Lately I’ve noticed the same thing, increasingly sluggish in the mornings or after sitting for 2 days or more.

Is this the battery again? Or is my alternator not working… tempted to just bring this battery back once again and get a new one.. even if my alternator is slowly dieing lol

Badhobz 11-18-2024 09:43 AM

buy the costco energizer AGM ones. not the kirkland regular ones. Plus go take it back for free battery replacements when yours crap out.

Its probably your alternator, but whatever batteries are cheaper (free) to replace.

bcrdukes 11-18-2024 09:47 AM

You can get your battery tested for free at some of the local shops. It will tell you if your battery or charging system is going out. I suggest getting it properly diagnosed first, but listen to Badhobz first and just throw parts at it from Costco and take advantage of their return policy. :fuckyea:

Hondaracer on his way to become an honourary hoarding Guangdonder.

Hondaracer 11-18-2024 09:49 AM

I think my alternator is relatively easy to swap out but I think I’d rather just grab a new battery and push the alternator off until warmer weather lol..

Feel like even with a bad alternator a new battery can last quite a while on a shitty charge

Does the downtown location have batteries?

EvoFire 11-18-2024 10:31 AM

If your alternator is going, the cold weather probably isn't helping either. A weak alternator would show less issues when it's warmer, especially if you aren't drawing power to use the defrost or seat heaters and what not. Xenon headlights also draw plenty of power.

GLOW 11-18-2024 10:42 AM

you prob could also disconnect your battery while it's still in your car, use a multi-meter and check the voltage and see if it's still within thresholds.

you could leave it connected when tested but i think it changes the thresholds (as is when the car is running), i forget what they are but a quick google will let you know.

yes but call ahead, they might not have all the sizes. some obscure size batteries only the bigger costco's carry.

dont forget to pickup costco sushi while youre there.

68style 11-18-2024 11:09 AM

You'd know if your alt was going... get all those effects like if your headlights are on and you rev it the lights get brighter or things dim when the fan kicks on.

Likewise your car probably has a volt meter on it... is it showing steady 12.5 on the gauge?

Alts tend to just die... not get poor and then die.

Hondaracer 11-18-2024 11:14 AM

G37 has the xenons with all the other shit that moves upon startup, the wheel, the seat, etc. always felt like even the seat moving into position always was quite a draw upon startup

I’ll check the lights and shit when I go out today

EvoFire 11-18-2024 12:35 PM

I remember back in the day on my Camry, if I try to pull up on the windows with the headlights on, the lights would dim. Not really a thing with xenons I think.

Hondaracer 11-18-2024 05:52 PM

Costco is the best lol.. returned the Kirkland battery and bought the AGM battery and while I was returning the battery with the new one in hand she gave me the core charge back as well lol

Badhobz 11-18-2024 05:53 PM

Fucking A brother !!!

I hope you celebrated with some freshly made sushi

That was the plan originally but opted for Willingdon because I figured they’d have the battery

Willingdon location has now has a full battery wall in the tire shop with substantially more inventory

Badhobz 11-18-2024 07:06 PM

aye dats true. the downtown one is really limited in stock.

Although they have some interesting items that often the other costco's don't have

1) weirdo displays/vendors. Last time they had some old lady sell orthopedic shoes. never seen that at a Costco before. Other time it was some time share vacation thing.

2) weirdo recreational gear. Most costco would stock like 1 EV scooter, or something but the downtown one has a few different one and was where I bought my segway moped e scooter. no other costco carries it

3) Kirkland sushi nuff said

Hondaracer 11-18-2024 07:19 PM

Yea the downtown location is probably the most unique one locally in terms of inventory.. Richmond probably 2?

Fuck like legit driving home from Costco with the new battery (forgot there’s the stupid cover and the shroud AND the bracket holding the battery in, in the parking lot :/) car feels way better. Even the power steering felt better and the idle was substantially improved.. so yea we’ll see.

It’s one of those things that happens so gradually it just seems normal
