a bit late now, but did anyone else watch demko's press conference after the loss to the sens? he looked incredibly rough. struggled to speak at times it appeared and he mentioned that he doesn't think any of the guys are 100% right now. the comments on social media about how the team should suck it up, it's hard to feel bad for millionaires, it's just a flu get over it, etc. it's weird how people still seem to forget athletes are also human.
^
He's had it rough, a lot of guys have looked pretty good, but Demko was doubled over half the time the play wasn't at their end
Same with Motte coming back last game? You see the closeups on him before faceoffs he looked like death warmed over, eyes all sunken in and weird complexion. I think I heard the announcers say he was having cognitive issues as well.
Damn, just hope for the best for these young guys who have the best years of their career ahead of them. If Covid results in Demko not being the same or getting back to the level he was before it hit the team ... you can thank Gaudette! At the very least, Demko signed the extension, but this is SO much more about $$$. It would really suck if Covid ruined the playing career of any athlete, NHL, NFL, or NBA ..etc.
That Canadian tennis lady phenom Andreescu who won the US Open is positive ...
I don't know if anyone pays attention to the business side of things, but it looks like NHL's TV rights will be more than double what they were last time - from $300M per year, to $625M per year.
The cap should increase pretty significantly because of this
I might have read it wrong, but I'm pretty sure I saw that the NHL already announced the cap was flat for 2 more seasons after this one. Or at least the GM's were operating on that belief anyway.
This deal won't kick in until next season, and lasts 7 seasons. In the US it'll be ESPN/ABC with some of the games, and TNT/TBS with the others. They aren't renewing with NBC (who are canceling NBCSN, and would have played NHL games on USA if they stayed with them). The finals will go back and forth between those networks each year.
They gave us some hope out of the gate post-Covid... but it's a done deal now.
These games are just straight up hard to watch. Ottawa has even passed us in the standings, yah we have 6 games in hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if we finished below them. Tire fire Ottawa with the worst owner in the league. Yikes.
As a side note, nice to see Kole Lind get a game in today............... although I don't know wtf Travis Green is thinking, put him with Sutter as his centre??? The worst playmaking centre on the entire team? Way to fuck a guy right out of the gate.
Our lineup is abysmal......... and did anyone see the graphic they ran during the Montreal game? Fucking hurtssssssss:
That was a stupid fight, fuck the Leafs and their code you don’t send Simmonds in to take a guy who’s never been in a fight before.
Where’s the respect for a guy who’s played 1,000 games pretty much clean in the league.
I don't have a problem with that. Edler took out one of their key players so retribution is expected. I would have expected the same if it was the other way around.
Edler knew he was gonna be a target all game and it would only boil over if he didn't take it like a man, so good on him for showing up even though he knew it was a lost cause. Just kept his chin tucked in for damage control.
Good on Simmonds for stopping once Edler was down. He could have easily thrown in a few extra ones but he just had a job to do. Probably wasn't even that personally invested against a non fighter.
