Great, free reign to overpay for more bottom 6 plugs.
Given the green light to fix his own mistakes with buyouts so he can make more of the same mistakes...
This inspires zero confidence.
What also makes me angry about Dim Jim's shortcomings as a GM is his dumb decisions to offer No Trade clauses to fourth line plugs, the "depth players"
It’s who owns those clauses as well that is baffling. Most teams give trade protection to a few of their best players. Benning has handed out NTCs to the likes of bottom-six forwards Brandon Sutter, Jay Beagle, and Antoine Roussel and depth defenceman Jordie Benn
The best of the clauses — best in the sense of humour, not actual quality — belongs to Loui Eriksson. His six-year, $36-million contract has a full NMC in the first two years, becomes a NTC in years three and four, then becomes a modified NTC for the final two years.
As another example, Micheal Ferland didn’t just get a four-year contract from the Canucks, something no other team was willing to do given his history of concussions, he also got a full NMC for the first two years, then a modified NTC for the next two.
How the heck does Dim Jim expect to improve the depth to his bottom six forwards when he gives out NTCs like candy to plugs like Beagle, Roussel, and Jordie Benn??
These depth players are a dime a dozen. Any NHL GM who has a decent hockey IQ can acquire these players on the FA market at lower hits to the salary cap.
All these NTCs for these fourth line plugs and depth d-man gives Benning less flexibility in managing the salary cap and changing the make up of his team.
I cannot believe that Dim Jim gave NTCs or NMCs to eleven players, like Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Ferland, or Loui.
I can’t say for sure, and I’m not defending Benning, but I think Canadian teams have to overpay for players due to taxation reasons and cost of living... so Vancouver might be pretty low on a lot of players lists for places to go to being in Canada and having immense housing costs, perhaps things like NTC or NMC are the only way to outbid other teams.

Not to mention the constant scrutiny you're under from the media and fans. I'd love to go to a team in Florida, Nevada, or Texas if I was an NHL player. Little to no income tax and hockey isn't as popular of a sport over there so you have some semblance of anonymity. You can't even go take a piss in Canada without someone wanting to take a pic or talk to you
I disagree. Although I believe the contact to be accidental by Perry, there's still a price to pay. You don't accidentally remove a Captain and get away unscathed.
“He’s also not the only really good goalie coach out there”. WTF, why would you say that publicly? Why would Ian Clark want to stay after hearing that?

Guys, he knows what he's doing. Trust the process. Here's his todo list for the offseason:
-Make Holtby the goalie coach since we're paying him anyway
-Give Louie a 7 yr extension with NMC
-Sign Messier and give him the C
-Take down the twins' names from the rafters
-Put himself on the ring of honor

LOL...
I wonder is there an issue with salary negotiations so this is Benning's tactic of playing hardball.
A goalie coach isn't just about being good or not, the goalie needs to be able to trust the coach's system for success to happen. They're like a team. Seems like Demko feels he really needs Clark enough to make a personal plea to the organization to get him re-signed. I mean, what does that tell you?
You can't just bring in a "good" coach and expect the same results. Every coach has their own methods and style and maybe it works out, or maybe it doesn't. But why change what ain't broken, especially when Demko's playing at an elite level with Clark.
I have no faith in this organization right now.

Canucks organization doesn't deserve Ian Clark ... go and get the best contract you can, thanks for everything. Watch Demko performance decline and replay this year's end presser.

Jim Benning is honestly one of the worst public speakers I have ever seen in my life. How he has total control over a professional sports team is honestly mind-boggling to me.
Damn .. Oilers the chokers of the decade ... what the hell is wrong? I know, they stood still on their goalie situation this year and it is coming back to bite them.
