Can anyone explain why Bambu Lab reusable filament spools have 2 versions, one resists heat of 70°C and one 90°C ?

Since when are the spools themselves exposed to high heat? or is this the way how Bambu Lab machines work??

High temp spool is for drying engineering filaments that require a higher temperature to be dried.

I've never bought any engineering filament, but I'd assume they come on those same spools since their PLA comes with the normal spool.

From MakerWorld, can you print the downloaded 3MF files directly?
Or do you have to run them through a slicer and then export?

I used Cura in my old printer and it exports .gcode files. But none of them seem to work in my A1. I had to put the models through Bambu slicer and re-export as 3MF.

Yeah, I think the app lets you print directly to your printer, just make sure you pick one for your printer.

I've never tried tho.

does bambu offer free shipping for their printers?
i may have misread i thought the site said free shipping over $60 but maybe that's only for consumables.

it's showing $30 for shipping a printer.

does anyone know when their sale is over?

Accessories and filament are free after a certain amount spend, but printers and AMS I believe are always charged shipping.

So besides making those awesome prints that Sonick showed a page back, what else can you do with these things ? Print little nick nacks and guns? It seems cheaper to just buy junk

Plus don’t you have to learn like a shit ton of CAD and other engineering crap to make something ?

I’m probably too stupid to venture down this route.

i was thinking the same thing, and contemplating if i should get one or not.

i haven't used autoCAD in years and don't have the time, and not sure if my boys would spend time doing CAD

checking out makerspace it seems limited in cool stuff to print

I just sent a job to velto.ca and will be picking up my 3D printed spacers later this evening.

Long story short: I have a track day tow hook, which is a revision 1. The vendor somehow got a hold of some oddball, military spec/military use nylon spacers (or washers, I supposed) to allow the hook to pivot without friction when mounted between the steel shaft and GoPro camera mount.

Problem is: I am an off-the-street consumer. The manufacturer of the spacer/washer only sells to commercial accounts. To make matters worse, you need to buy 100 minimum quantity. So I was at a lose/lose situation where I can't buy, and if I could, I need to buy more than I need. The alternative was to pony up for a new $250 tow hook for my stupid Porsche, or pay $30 to have the spacer/washer 3D printed. Thankfully, the manufacturer of the spacer/washer has 3D files to download. I just needed to convert them and have them uploaded for printing. I tried to go to the library to get these printed, but they don't have the right machine and material to print (Tough 2000.)

I'll share picture laters.

@ Badhobz - Stop asking stupid questions. Buy a 3D printer and proceed to throw it in the trash. Support capitalism, you old bastard!

Just picked up the 3D printed spacers and they fit the tow hook perfectly. Will update post with pictures later. I’m posting from a dark, deserted industrial complex.

Here they are. Pictured are 3 of the 4 spacers. I used one to test fit the tow hook. These spacers are VERY thing. I cannot imagine finding something like this in your typical hardware store.

Final outcome. You can see the two nylon spacers between the hook and the shaft.

Just for reference:

Most of the stuff you print is to mod the printer itself or build other printers... lol

I bought an Ender 3 V2 back in 2021, after modding it to the point where it's not even recognizable as an Ender 3 anymore, I used it to print parts to build a Voron 2.4. If you want a tool, buy a printer. If you want a hobby, build one yourself. It's like when I was in my 20's, I enjoyed tinkering with the car more than I enjoyed driving it but I'm old now and cars are complicated. 3D printers filled the hobby hole... lol

Not the most environmentally friendly hobby though, I probably went through about 200 spools and I don't have a lot of 3D prints around the house. Most of the stuff I print... I take a look at it and go, "that looks cool" and toss it in the trash... lol... that's almost 200kg of plastic I've tossed out in a few years.

There have been useful stuff though, I needed things like a radius gauge and some clamps. I just printed them.

One advantage of a 350mmx350mm bed is you don't just print crap, you print big crap... lol Actually, that wash bucket strainer is pretty handy... but most of it is crap

3D printing is great for random things here and there, especially if you need them in custom sizes. It's probably cheaper to buy in most situations, but it's cool to be able to customize a model to your liking or play around with different designs.

Some random stuff I've printed out
* Modular drawers for screws and random knick knacks
* Caddy for my Philips shaver and all the accessories
* Caddy for my Philips toothbrush and charger
* Connectors for my Billy bookcase
* Pots for my plants
* A phone mount for my friend's 86

My friend is going to some anime expo next week, so I helped print out a helmet and shoulders for him. Here's a picture after he glued the parts I printed together and did an initial sand.

A 1 KG spool costs between $20 to $30 sometimes less. That model uses 78 grams of filament with a 15% infill. So less than $2.40.

$20/kg is usually a sweet spot for filament, though I've seen even cheaper lately.

The slicer gives an estimate on how much material is used and gives a rough cost estimate based on the settings you provide.

I use my printer mostly for small custom household parts. I'm no CAD designer but can modify an existing design or create new simple designs from tinkercad to print out.

Below is a a smart doorbell siding panel that I made from tinkercad. The slicer shows how much time it'll take to print, the amount of material used, and the estimated cost for the part.

I think the Picard took like 700g, it's 400x the original size. The base and the bust are separate pieces, both took about 20 hours each. Would've gone faster but silk filaments need to be printed slower or you lose the shine.

The printer itself contains 3kg of ABS but the parts are printed with 50% infill for strength. Don't print ABS with an open frame printer, you're going to have a bad time.

PLA and PETG, the two more common materials don't have much of a smell. I believe a normal air purifier will capture most of the bad things.

ABS and other materials, you need to pipe the exhaust to the outside so you don't kill yourself over time.
