I don't think you car reach 210+whp on the 1st gen without an ace header and E85 tune. So the new motor is way more powerful
This. Also the one thing I'd think about tuning to 200 whp+ is you're sacrificing reliability and these motors are already fragile as it is LOL. Main reason why I left my motor stock.
For those who have modified their stock motors, what's a replacement or rebuilt engine going for these days? Any other alternatives to motor swaps w/o doing a tonne of custom fabrication?

Used motor and transmission combo are going for $3-$5k the last time I checked. Short block isn't actually that expensive from Subaru/Toyota, I think $2,500-$3,000?
lol thats decent.... but the amount of work to assemble the short block though..... i guess with enough tools, time and garage space.... its not undoable.....
i always wanted to tbh...it can be any engine, mundane or not.... just for the experience, but ofc i dont have the luxury of time and space... and money haahaha

It's crazy how to see our sentiment towards a new Corolla changed with the latest gen, because this would be unimaginable to me 5 years ago.
With all the hype built up I really hope the GR Corolla delivers.
It helps I think that the current Corolla looks pretty good in both sedan and hatch form, much much much better than the last one. Unfortunately the car just doesn't have the oomph to back up the looks.
They keep hinting at it and confirming it's coming, but I haven't seen anything yet that says it'll be coming to Canada too. I'm trying really hard not to get too excited for it until I know I'll be able to buy one.

Thank goodness the car will have the power to match its looks now, even with the supposed wider fenders and all.

Not that this confirms it's coming to Canada, but their IG page teased the car as well. I don't think they would tease a model there if it isn't coming here. https://www.instagram.com/p/CXEK8intb7U/

They made an Apex edition for this gen... But it has much oompf as a base model BMW with tacked on eBay body kit lol

They must have hired a new designer. The Camry and Corolla didnt look sporty back in the day. They were more for senior citizens lol. But now the Camry looks better than the Accord IMO. So does the Corolla, and if Toyota can deliver with GR, I have a feeling Honda civic will have something to compete with.

The Corolla and Civic are at least half a class away in terms of size. Corolla has stayed in its compact class while the Civic is huge.
