Whenever a family member gets sick or dies, we're reminded to cherish what we have while we can. But sometimes we get into a routine, and forget to do that, because nobody happens to be getting sick or dying.
So let this be a reminder: Cherish what you have right now. Go give your mom/dad/sister/brother/husband/wife/cat/dog a big hug and a kiss
I try to think of this as much as possible, especially with my cat who is still healthy but getting up there in years (just turned 12). I can't even imagine what it would be like if he left us

^ seeing as how I am now the eldest of my namesake, with all other elder relatives now deceased, I agree one should cherish this short time on earth to the best of your ability.

Reading through this post I think CH28 probably nailed it, parents getting old and sick is probably the worst thing about getting older.
My mom has been battling cancer (winning I'll add) and has the onset of dementia and my dad received a cancer diagnosis about 6 weeks ago, 3 types all unrelated in 3 spots but the Doctors actually seem optimistic which is surprising to me considering.
He called me yesterday and I could actually hear the fear in his voice and he's not one to be emotional ever, it sucks because they live 2000 kms away and Covid and the challenges of work and my own family make it so hard to be together.

Both my parents are gone. My mother nearly two years ago. She was just shy of turning 96. Wife passed away five years ago. Three of my aunts. A few of my friends. The smell of death is something I'm used to. All I ask in life is not to have to bury any of my children. I saw what that was like when my wife passed away. It's all depressing, but life goes on. Does the pain ever go away? No. Time does NOT heal all wounds. I have seen people get so depressed they end their own life. Nothing, and I mean nothing is more sadder than that. Life has so much to offer. My wife used to say, its the survivors that suffer the most.
Stay positive and try your absolute best to make a difference in other people's lives. Two of my three children have moved out. The third, I pretty much leave alone, but man this house is so empty now. I do keep busy (hoarding, lol) and have enough hobbies to last three life times. I wake up each day thankful for all I have. It hasn't always been easy, but I could easily be like the homeless guy on the street or a drug addict or a lonely, miserable old man, or dead. Like one of the quotes in my sig, "there but for the grace of god go I." I go out everyday just to interact and meet people. Just the other day, I ran across this lady who's at the cemetery every day. I commented on how she's at the cemetery as much as I was.......... long story short, by the end of the conversation, we both ended up in tears. Her story was so sad. Life is so unfair. No mercy.
Anyway, celebrate life. Go outside, go to your favourite spot to contemplate/meditate, and take a really, really, really deep breath. Think of all the good things you share/shared with your loved ones. If it's pouring rain, just look up and let it hit your face.............. and laugh.

Agree with watching your parents age. It is tough - even though they are in good health right now, you never know what could happen Although my dad is 73 and is in better shape than I am, he can do 10 chin ups without even trying. | This. The most.
It's funny how the older guys would always warn us about injuries and pain when we got older, I always would scoff at it.
Boy was I wrong, Achilles injury that never quite healed properly, slight should issues from lifting, elbow tendinitis from lifting, it's crazy how these things never presented themselves in your 20's.
The real kicker about getting older? How your couch or your bed can cause you hip or back pain Never thought I'd have to be more aware of my choice of couch. Heck now my bed is starting to give me a slight pain in my right hip, so now it's off to the store to upgrade to something more supportive.
The joys of getting older.

I always tell my friends to live life as much as they can while their parents are still healthy because one day that option to do so will not be so easy... well, if you actually care about and like your parents
My dad got sick when I was about 9 and passed when I was 35. That was 25yrs of dealing with all of his serious health problems and shit he put our family through that I had to grow up fast to help pay off family debts, etc. Would always be jealous of people doing teenage things, college student things, etc and just living a normal life...

Best part about being a senior, besides Costco seniors hour, 20% off video games at Shoppers Drug Mart, yada, yada, yada, is the Home Owners Grant!!!
It's property tax time. Went on-line and applied for it. It is no longer handled by the municipality. It's now handled by the provincial government. Everybody who qualifies has to apply each and every year. I pay monthly and it's the way to go. No sudden surprises. Equal payment over 10 months. Depending on assessment changes, you get charged extra or get refund. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/t...er-grant/apply
