Congrats on the new ride~!

If you have a chance, you gotta take the FK8 out to the track for some laps. Maybe not Mission since it is so hard on brakes, but the FK8 is such a wonderful front driver -- arguably one of the best -- that it'd be a shame if you don't take it out to stretch its legs and enjoy its athleticism. And she is so easy to drive on track too!

He’s finally smartened up. If he sells the e36, I’ll put $20 down that he’ll never own an older bmw ever again

Shenanigans at 2AM. Pilot Alpin 4 passed with flying colors in the wet heavy slop. I stopped in a couple steep inclines to feel with the tires felt/sounded like as they struggled for traction but it only took ½ tire rotation to dig and the car accelerated uphill ease with no spinning unless I forced it. Those were the most fun parts. Lateral control is confident inspiring with these tires and I’m sure if snow was lighter/colder, they would grip even more. If I wanted the car to stay sideways I needed aggressive throttle but once I eased off the rear tires caught traction progressively and firmly. Really easy to drive without traction control in the city this way since there’s enough feedback and traction play to make the car do what you want without TC cutting power over aggressively.

Overheating issues tho. I definitely think I finally have a capable car for VIMC or A27 now!

The irony in all of this is that my avator has always been a Honda Civic.

Trevor almost convinced me to buy a 335d. I think that would have been the better long term financial decison haha

Hey don’t bring me into this. It was more like whatever car came into the market that you liked. LOL the 335d is hardly anything especially in certain spec that we all love. It’s like a needle in a haystack. LOL

Good article. I love my older cars, but my first new car (focus st) and my now focus RS have completely changed me and what I look for. I used to always love cars but never cared much for driving. Now having a new car, you can just decide “hey there’s a rare part in kamloops for sale, maybe I’ll blast out there tonight” without a seconds hesitation. That to me is priceless.

That’s a bit of a reason why I haven’t started daily driving the STi. It requires some work, but it’s a high mileage used vehicle. I’ll definitely need BCAA as a backup.

You can still do that in an older car if you do everything right. Our honeymoon was in the m3 and it was 4000kms in 10 days. Earlier in the month we did an 1800km road trip with it. I keep tools, zip ties and fuses in the trunk, but I’d recommend that in a new car too. Thing is with an older car you need a couple years most likely before it’s where it should be.

Glad to hear the Pilot Alpin 4 held up.

I'm kinda of the opinion that for nearly all lower mainland use cases that performance winters or all weather tires are plenty of snow performance and that the tradeoffs of running full winters like Blizzaks/X-ice tires are not worth it for enthusiasts.

Winters on. I actually have traction now! The summer tires on the OEMs in this weather of low-traction conditions = wheel hop for days.

You can take the BMW from me but you can't take the BMW out of me.

No that's where Overdrive is. Coincidentally, I however did live in that neighborhood up until last year. There used to be a chocolate factory there. It was like real life Willy Wonka or so 7 year old me thought.

The new winter car for this year, it's the most sensible winter car decision I've made in years.

Yep, this is the back 40 with this year's crop of snow coming in nicely.

Or it could be that I work in the ski industry and we refer to ourselves as snow farmers.

Decided to grow a mullet and pick up a new daily. But for real there were life changes and family members' health changing needing rides to appointments. The M2 was too low and difficult for those family members to get in/out. I was offered a decent price on trade, essentially owning the car for $0 over >2 years and picked up something that hopefully will not depreciate too much while I figure out what car to get next. I still have the e36 m3 as a fun/track car so this may be a first for me in keeping the same vehicles long term.

Luckily got the exact spec T4R that I wanted and my 4 month wait turned into 1 as someone who ordered this changed their mind.
