We bought this from Ikea
https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/hemnes-...tain-70360414/

And then we put a foam/rubber changing pad on top as a changing table. We didn't want to get a dedicated changing table that would be useless after he grows out of it. You can't use the changing table anymore once he starts walking, cause at least our kid won't sit still. He prefers to be changed while standing nowadays.

The bonus with the foam/rubber dish pad is we took it with us when we went out.

I changed my kids on the floor; zero risk of falling. We put a waterproof pad on the carpet, then another cloth on top of the pad.

We just got a regular dresser (https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...white/12564567) and then threw this peanut changer on top: https://www.westcoastkids.ca/keekaroo-peanut-changer#

The peanut changer is VERY nice BUT cold to the touch so we put a mat on top when changing. I'd consider it overkill for most uses.

I have the Eufy Spaceview: https://us.eufylife.com/products/t8301

It's, like my diaper changer, overkill so it's quite good. We initially used a really crappy one from our BIL that had a 2 inch screen and little adjustability before getting the Eufy. My wife insisted on something that didn't use Wifi for fears that someone would hack into it - this was post birth so I was in the "Don't want no smoke from that lady" phase of fatherhood and just bought whatever was highly recommended but not crazy expensive (the Nanit is the Rolls Royce of baby monitors).

^ I got the same one, works well. I had a angel care before but the camera angle is quite narrow which didn't work well for our setup.

Great choice. Number one rated on Wirecutter. Did you get it locally?

I'm kind of in the same boat as your wife. I have a small worry about security, but actually the bigger issue is having to sign up for ANOTHER online service, make password, etc. The idea of a closed circuit connection has a lot of appeal to me.

Got it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Security-Anker...s%2C253&sr=8-5

Looks like there's a $50 off coupon right now for it though the price has gone up a bit since I bought it back in early 2020 (I paid $190+taxes).

My friend has the Nanit, she loves it and swears by it. But she couldn't come up with a reason why her camera was 2x better than my Eufy at looking at my kid at night.

For cameras don't cheap out but there's also no real reason to get the best money can offer.

I feel like a lot of reviews online are biased, suggesting the higher end cameras would be better where it honestly won't be.

My main criteria is battery life tbh. Vtech makes a lot of decent reasonably priced options, but the main complaint that keeps coming up is battery life.

According to wirecutter, the Eufy's battery life is superior to others, so that caught my eye.

Another benefit to the non-wifi ones is you don't need to mess around with anything when you take it someplace else. Plug it in and go.

I think I posted a link to the VTech that we have in this thread previously. The battery life has been good, but I noticed the battery indicator isn't terribly accurate. It'll drop sorta fast but survive on 1 bar for ages. The main annoyance I had with it is that the camera is able to be linked to multiple monitors, but the monitor we got isn't able to pair to more cameras. It gives the option to switch between cameras, but it's pointless when you can't link it to any more lol. There's a slightly better model which is identical but does have the ability to add more apparently.

I'd say they all generally suck in terms of battery life as they are all charge daily type of devices so whether it lasts 12 hours or 18 hours isn't that big a diff. I had to plug in my Eufy every morning or I was hooped the next night, we ended up having a charger both in our bedroom and living room so we could always keep it charged.

That said, on the very rare days when your kid sleeps a bit longer you don't want the very loud "battery low" beeping to start so you can also sleep in. Those days fucking suck.

Sorry this is a dumb question but do the cameras have to be plugged in too? Or do they have batteries as well? Just wondering about wires and cables.

My wife and I found the best baby monitor was the Dormi app installed on an old phone. I think it was like $12 for lifetime subscription.

I like that both my wife and I could monitor the "child device" from either of our "parent" phones simultaneously.

We were handed down one of those Angelcare units, which we promptly sold at a consignment sale for like $150.

Generally the camera side would need to be plugged in while the monitor can be battery operated.

Maybe I missed it, but whats the problem with Wyze? They can be repurposed afterwards, image quality is good, can be accessed from anywhere, cheap, no subscription, etc.

We've used them for both of our kids, and will use it for our third.. I'm not sure if any of those other dedicated systems are that much better.

Some one said they wanted a closed system in case they don't want to connect to wifi or don't have it available.

Never tried it before but I don't know if the Wyze would work with a wifi network that has a prompt to connect like some hotels have setup.

Baby monitors generally tell a bit more than IP cameras. Like wake up from sounds, temps, two way communication etc.

Hey guys I bought Kirkland Formula when it went on sale, but since my son is now 1 I'm transitioning him to cow's milk and I have 5 sealed boxes. I can return it but if anyone wants them for the sale price, let me know.

If you need it for a hotel, it wouldn't work.. but generally hotels are so small (at least the ones i stay in) that you don't even need a monitor.

Wyze will do 2 way comms and motion detection, but i'm sure some newer baby monitors do more specific baby monitoring functions, although seems like overkill to me.

Just an FYI, if you return formula the store will likely gve you your money back but destroy it for safety. Consider donating it if you're not strapped for cash.

Yeah, we stopped even bothering with video after a couple months. All we needed was to be alerted when he woke up, and simple audio was good enough for that.
