SSC Tuatara Officially Sets New Top Speed Record for a Production Car. Move over Bugatti. SSC Tuatara sets a new top speed record for a production car. -article on DuPont Registry: After SSC North America’s disputed top speed run of 331 mph, they’re back again to prove their Tuatara is the real deal. The team traveled to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida. This allowed them to utilize the 2.3-mile strip for their top speed run, which is obviously less than what State Road 160 afford them (7 miles). Joining the SSC team was Racelogic USA. In fact, it was Jim Lau, Technical Director of Racelogic USA in North America, who installed and verified the data logger (Racelogic VBOX 3i 100Hz GNSS system). Their Northbound run resulted in a max speed of 279.7 mph and the Southbound run had a max speed of 286.1 mph. Combined, the two-way average is 282.9 mph. This speed puts it 5 mph over the Koenigsegg Agera RS which had a two-way average of 277.9 mph. You can see the runs for yourself, complete with onboard video speed overlay collected using a VBOX Video HD2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
They still aren't close to the original claimed 330mph. And I read Bugatti unofficially did over 300mph. But for my money I still rather have a Bugatti or koneigseggges over this. |
 for coming back after what happened last time. I don't see why they can't hit 300 plus MPH with more room. |

I don’t think it could reach 330, but it definitely has some head room. 300mph should be achievable for sure. I think the car looks amazing too |

I'd rather have a Bugatti Chiron over the SSC Tuatara if I could afford to buy one. This is the recorded top speed of the Chiron. 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) :fullofwin: |
i think bugatti being able to pull it off with its horseshoe grille from like the 19th century is more impressive |
I think that's the difference Bugatti has history and craftsmanship vs this seems like some kit car |

Aerodynamics are fascinating... like... something as huge and immensely heavy as a Boeing 747 only needs to reach 184mph to lift off............ but a car can stay planted on a road at 300+mph |

But yes, always amazes me that something the size of a modern jet can fly. |
