I have a Rotopax on my offroad bike, been mildly disappointed with it overall...

The spinner that holds it down gouges the plastic and when it's tightened down in the morning so it doesn't rattle/move around, on a hot day it expands and is a bugger to try and spin the handle off... also on rough roads the container itself is rubbing on the plate it's mounted to and getting other gouges...

Oh, and mine came with the "no spill" redesigned fuel neck when I bought it, which was actually a "spill fucking everywhere" fuel neck, replaced with with a more simple traditional design. They may have changed this again since, I know I emailed and bitched them out about it and I imagine I wasn't alone haha

more or less i skew towards the 'no expenses spared' route with my vehicles
but for this one i'd like to go the budget route

rotopax doesn't even come in a standard capacity unless you go low profile roof mount style and it costs more than the roof rack i have lol

Hey Guys,

I've thought about buying something to get out camping a bit and wondered if I could get your guys opinion on this. This car is sitting on a lot near my work, its an Auto V6 version with 4x4. I really like the size and it already seems to have some work done, would love some advice.

These are what you want for fuel:

https://overlandoutfitters.ca/collec...=1063567523848

I use their water cans, and they are awesome. I have a couple of the fuel cans for gas and mixed gas, they are awesome. I've replaced all my cheap jerry cans with these. I probably have a dozen of them now. And the best part is you can buy additional wrenches, spouts, and parts for them.

common issue would be timing chain stretch on some models, and check the usual rust spots esp door frame and trunk edge/license plate area

pretty bombproof otherwise

We have a friend who bought his sisters grand vitara to bring up to his cabin for us to use hunting. It was a manual 4X4

I had the duty of driving it from Surrey to north of Kamloops which was kinda painful but in the bush it seemed like quite a capable vehicle

If anyone feels the need for a winch, Costco has the Champion 12k with the synthetic line and hitch mount in stock again. I missed out on them last time so I grabbed one now. It comes with the winch off the mount so if you don't want to use that you don't have to.

That's why the receiver mount is nice, it's tucked away and out of the weather until you need it.

Really depends what you're after.

The cheapest Inreach device is still 2x the cost of a Zoleo
Inreach has a cheaper base plan, but depends on your use, you may end up spending more than Zoleo's plan.
Inreach has Active tracking(10 minute interval, each Interval = 1 message count)
Zoleo has a dedicated phone number(you can be contacted by anyone sending a text vs inreach you have to make initial contact)
Zoleo will switch to Cellular/Wifi when there's reception so you're not using up your message limit

looks like the inreach is on sale too

main thing for me is it's got a screen so dont have to rely on the app if phone dies (just for visual reassurance the msg was sent)

if it stays in the vehicle guess it doesn't matter but i like the form factor for backpacking weight weenies lol

it's certainly nice there's more competition in the space now...hope they'll back off on the annual fee

Zoleo just released active tracking under "Location Share+" for $7.50 a month you can share location up to 5 contacts in 6min-4hr intervals.

Also Monday is the last day to get a Zoleo for $200 including a 1 year membership for Gaia Premium

Let me know what you find, was going to start researching this weekend too haha. I kind of want to wire up an in-line water pump out of like a sports-oriented drinking water canister, to some kind of shower head.

I personally went with this option and got a collapsible bucket

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Worked great on my 4 day camping trip last month and takes up minimal space. just grabbed a bucket of water from the river, boiled a portion of it.

Premium Gaia for 6 months:

https://www.gaiagps.com/premium/?PROMO=LUCATMENOW

Gaia is actually great, I like the hardcopy BRMB, and I carry 2-3 of them in my truck all the time depending on where we are/going.

But having all the books, and the ability to see exactly where you are on the map at all times, trip planning functions, etc. It really is a great app.

I haven't tried Onx (which all the youtubers are peddling now), I did briefly try Hema, but that wasn't what I was looking for.
