They do. Fucking ABSURDLY expensive though. Comprehensive on my e30 was higher than full coverage from ICBC by like 60%.
Would have made my $1500/year insurance closer to 3k
Hagerty let’s you choose how much you get for your classic if it’s written off though and it’s not disputable, unlike ICBC which goes with market price.
Also, I thought this too... BUT, if you have more than 1 collector plate car, Hagerty adds them to your policy for a only a fractional amount since I guess they realize you can’t drive more than 1 car at once... so for example when I looked at my MR2 the Hagerty optional coverage at a $35,000 replacement was like $1,100 whereas it’s only ~$300 on my collector plates, but no way ICBC is going to pay me out $35k+ for that car and when I added my Mustang and Prelude in, it only went up to like $1400 so they were charging only a hundred bucks or so for each additional car.
So it does have its usefulness that way. I haven’t done it yet but I’m considering it.

I'll look into it again. The e30 will be easy to get what its worth, even from ICBC, but the e36 could be VERY hard. The money people have offered me for it (and the money I've spent on it) is WELL above the e36 m3 market.

Still no guidance from Porsche or Porsche dealers regarding insurance. I find it absolutely bizarre that they would launch a niche rental service like this one and ignore insurance requirements.
And it looks like the program is already running in Vancouver, so are the participants renting the cars with inadequate insurance?

Update regarding rental insurance - unfortunately bad news. After a conference call with the Porsche Drive team it seems we don't have a clear answer regarding rentals at the moment and are temporarily putting the rental side on hold.
ICBC has one understanding and the Porsche Drive guys have different one. We are just in the middle waiting for them to sort it out.
Subscription is unaffected and continue to be fully insured as long as term is 1 month minimum.
Will update you guys as soon as its all worked out.

Rental agreements always say that you’re responsible for any tickets that you get while driving a rental...

ICBC finally got back to me to confirm that they definitely DO NOT cover high value rentals (confirming what we were pretty certain about)
Quote:
As for your question, ICBC does not offer rental coverage to “high value” vehicle. We have special coverages provided to “owned” high value vehicle just not for rental only.
You may want to seek coverage from “private insurer” or perhaps through the rental company directly as they often have a “private insurer” underwriting their insurance needs.
This would have been a good weekend to cruise around in a 911.
No update on insurance regarding rentals yet unfortunately.
The other problem at the moment is that since the program has been so well received so far in terms of subscriptions, that all our cars have been spoken for at the moment. We have been allocated a dozen or so more cars by Porsche since the program has been doing so well so if some of you are still thinking about it you should hurry.

So finally we do have an update regarding rentals - they are going to be available starting in July and will now include insurance in the rental cost. All rentals they reserve the right to check driver's abstract as a qualifier to use their insurance.
The caveat is again vehicle availability - cars will be prioritized for the subscription program.
Track use is prohibited and there are GPS trackers and dataloggers to monitor these cars.

I'm having trouble rationalizing why the Porsche rentals thread is 4 pages long?
Do that many people want to pay out the nose to rent a Porsche? lol
Even if I felt like setting money on fire, I'm sure it would be a very benign experience just from the sheer number of restrictions placed on you and the fear of fucking something up and being on the hook for it.... doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me, paying tonnes of money to clench my ass for 48hrs.
