There was an engine code and he leant me his scanner to scan the code for me. He gave me his bottom price, waived the doc fees. Took it home the next day. Now the truck is worth almost double what i paid lol.

what did buy? and what deal did you get?

trollface 05-26-2021 10:41 AM

I too would like to know what truck doubled in value in one year.

donk. 05-26-2021 12:04 PM

How do you know when a salesman is lying?

Spoiler!

Placing odds riceintegra bought an old 4runner, they literally doubled in price over the last year

I’d love for you to elaborate but I don’t think you will :lol

And yes, I have a buddy with multiple runners who was telling me they’ve skyrocketed recently.

I just bought a 2006 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4. It was listed for $6999, i bought it for $5000. At the time it was probably valued at around $6500. But with covid and the sudden demand in trucks. I saw the same truck being sold anywhere between 8k-12k. My buddy asked me to look for the same truck for him but anything listed on facebook or craigslist was overpriced or was getting bought within a day or 2.

The job itself is fine. It’s the other people.

Extreme spectrums of people from the rudest pricks with no loyalty to some of the nicest people that’s probably nicer than your grandma.

I don’t play the tricks or games to do deals but some customers just love to play them.

They will complain about everything, poor this poor that and would walk away from a deal over $50 to do one two hours away at another store.

Yet there are some of the best customers that stick to you regardless no matter how shitty their car got and will follow you from dealer to dealer.

There’s always two sides to a story and we ain’t all out there to rip people off. Businesses need to make money to stay afloat, so of course car sales need to make money of some sort too. Not every used car is profitable despite what every thinks: there could’ve been major recon on one or used car manager was an idiot and put too much trade value into one (we have bad days too)

Doing this for 9 years, I still like the job and I still try to do my best for deals to make sense to my customers. If numbers don’t work out. No problem man. Move on.

What I don’t need is another guy from the board test driving half a dozen cars and asking every single little question along with finance quotes with zero intent to buy. Yes. Four years interaction and still going. It’s a thing.

whitev70r 05-26-2021 07:39 PM

^ you sound like a guy I could work with if I found a car at your lot.

tofu1413 05-26-2021 08:39 PM

There’s always good and bad things.

Great dudes like touringteg are pleasure to deal with. More than happy to cut him a deal if he’s interested in something.

Aged unit over 120 days? You’re a good dude? Sure $500 over cost. No problem man. I make $5 but at least the guy is happy and appreciates it!

you did good, very good lol

money is nearly worthless now :okay:

EvoFire 05-27-2021 08:36 PM

There's also inflation to think about. All the gov'ts been printing money non-stop for the last 15 months.

whitev70r 05-27-2021 08:54 PM

^ why is our dollar at such a high point against the US dollar? Highest that it's been for a while. We are printing less than them?

trollface 05-28-2021 07:55 AM

"Inflation" if it does stay, is not 100% tied to printing money. Printing money creates liquidity, not demand.

Everyone is forgetting manufacturing, shipping etc was all screwed up by C19. Supply is down while demand stayed high if you look at consumer spending. Look at the top companies in SP500, they had amazing blowout quarters. There are a lot of ppl that did really well or was unaffected at all by C19.

You can't make sweeping macro level calls on the economy because Bananas went up 5 cents at Safeway. If dealers can't get new cars to sell, obvs used car prices trend up. That has nothing to do with printing money.

There is a massive pent-up demand waiting to be filled. Retailers can't get stock, the demand is still there. Walk into any computer store, gun store, bike store and ask them how they did last year. They were able to sell every single sku at full tilt, no discount, taking pre-orders deep into next year. Their only issue is getting enough stock, kinda like... lumber.

Printing money to create liquidity did not magically make the price of XYZ go up, there were a lot of factors at play here that we've never seen before.

USD is a complex one:
- Policy
- Growth
- Export prices
- Inflation

Why thank you Tofu! Always a pleasure to deal with you as well.

Everyone go buy their Mclarens from Tofu. Revscene discount.

68style 05-28-2021 08:00 PM

Agreed TouringTeg is one of the best users on RS I've ever dealt with and that was mostly just conversational! Also sent a few people his way when they're looking for vehicles on the island...

I want to know who the guy that's been test driving tofu's patience for 4 years is! lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again

"Man, FUCK that guy!"

I've seen Tofu first hand deal with some absolutely awful people/time wasters and cannot believe how he manages to keep his cool and not blow up. Mans has some incredible patience. :damn:

I don't have a massive amount of business or sales experience, but what I have done has at least shown me that you never know where a customer will come from... it pays to always be the bigger person no matter the situation, you never know who someone knows or how it might come back around.

Regardless of brands, customers come from all walks of life.

I’ve encountered a fair share of disrespectful people and dismissed them. Even if I made a sale to people that don’t respect me, I don’t feel it’s worth the headache and I won’t be inclined to help after sale too, hence I’m not too keen on doing transactions with people that talk down on us or even think they know more than us ( the store)

I work with deadbea7. He sees the ugly stuff often and sometimes we all wonder why we have yet to strangle the guy and dump his body into the Fraser river. But we will save stories like that for another day

punkwax 05-29-2021 02:58 PM

I wasted tofu’s time once. Not a lot of it though. If somehow an F150 Lariat hits your lot let me know :ifyouknow:

When dealerships buy used cars, do they have to pay tax?

whitev70r 05-30-2021 07:22 AM

^ no ....they sign a special sales form, they have a car sales license number.

trollface 05-30-2021 10:15 AM

Weird how that works.. lol

twitchyzero 05-30-2021 12:36 PM

they should just remove taxes from all vehicles older than 3 model years/25k odo, ffs
