Recommendations for oil change?

I need to change my car oil and wondering if yall have recommendations for a place to do that.

A few questions:

Help us out in order to help you.

1. What car is this for?
2. What do you consider cheap?
3. What do you consider good?

There are plenty of places that offer cheap and good, but it boils down to what your expectations are.

A few other things to consider are:
1. Are you going to bring your own oil and parts? Or will you buy from the shop who is performing the service for you?
2. Do you care what brand of oil the shop uses? Pretty sure you can go from random oil from a huge oil drum (bulk oil - not always bad) to something like Motul 300v.
3. Do you care what brand of oil filter the shop uses? Could be generic off the shelf jobber parts or OE parts.

My only recommendation is to take the car to BIC BAWS. But can't guarantee your car will survive after its done. :troll:

For someone who is in a car forum, I actually know nothing about cars lol.

I drive a honda civic 2012 deluxe edition and what I consider good is if the car runs fine and everything works. Ie. Everything is in one piece, and my driving experience is good. That’s it.

Also, how often should I be changing my oil?

^ oh damn ... how long have you been driving and how long of an interval are you waiting before oil change. Good thing it's a Civic.

9th gen civic there's a maintenance tracker in the iMid. I have a 15 so the following instructions may not apply, but same gen so it should be similar.

On your steering wheel hit Menu -> scroll down -> maintenance tracker. There you will see if you need to do an oil change and what things you also need to do. Service A, Service B, etc.

I don't actually know how many KMs BC of the iMID but I suspect around 5000-7500km.

The car uses 0w20 or 0w30 (don't remember).

Also don't bring it me, I hate working on the civic's or any Honda's, bottom mounted oil filter. BMW ftw.

I can do it if you haven't found anyone yet, am in East Van. Our family car is a 9th gen as well so am well versed.

I believe the onboard maintenance reminder is 6000 kms for oil changes.

I actually acquired it from a relative a year ago. I assume they've been taking care of it, or at least I hope.

I kinda want to go to a shop this time around just because there's a few other tune-up stuff I think I might need to do like a) get someone to checkout my brakes and b) add in more windshield wiper fluids and possibly more stuff

I don't think a sticky rice is gonna pay for all that LOL

Go to CT buy windshield washer fluid, it's $2, dump it in the resovoir with the blue cap

I think the only time an oil change is not good and not cheap is if you go to Mr. Lube and they fuck it up and oil leaks all over the place and your engine explodes on The Knight Street Bridge at exactly 4:45pm on a Friday afternoon.

Otherwise, any shop can do an oil change for what is generally good and cheap.

No worries - can do your brakes too FYI. After owning multiple old German cars, a modern Civic is really really easy to work on.

Took my car to Arts Automotive on Clark Dr for an oil change. No complaints and will be going back for a brake job. Found that place from Reddit as many people recommended them.

Hijacking this thread... Looking for recommendations in the tri cities or nearby for full AC service. I think it needs more than a recharge

For that car go to the dealer. I work at the dealer and see so many invoices from small shops that are way too expensive, shitty parts that don't work and lots of shoddy work. So of course they wind up at the dealer and we fix them up right.

Also at the dealer the manufacturer is always looking, shops are always scared of an audit. There is no way, at least at my brand that the shop can rip off a customer. The small shops on the other hand... i've seen invoices that said replaced engine, I checked the vin and it was all original.

So, if you don't know much and don't want to get ripped off, are genuinely concerned about taking the best care of your car and don't mind paying the standard price for the properly working and fitting OE parts I recommend to head straight to the dealer. win/win

Also depending on the make and the service or repair, a dealer job is not THAT much more expensive than indie shop, and its way more convenient with their waiting lounges, online booking, and even car shuttle services.

Lower priced standard maintenance (fluids, brakes, etc) I think the slightly higher cost is worth the convenience and OEM materials

Major jobs the price difference is too large I take it to indie shop (e.g. BMW oil pan gasket)

Now that I drive an electric car, there is no maintenance. However, I do have a couple of ICE cars. I do all the fluid changes myself. I installed Fumoto oil drain valves on all of them. Makes oil changes so much easier. https://www.fumotousa.com

The newest ICE vehicle, the one I actually drive (once a week), I don't even touch. I paid for one of those lifetime oil change packages. I'm getting too old for this shit. Anyway, getting it done at the dealership is awesome. OEM parts and you get to know the people there. I used to think getting stuff done at dealerships was expensive as all hell, but looking at the prices, it really isn't. As for other, more complicated stuff, I have a RS guardian angel who's got my back.
