Ive said it a few times before, il say it again

Go into an office "were boiling in here!!! We need you to fix the AC!!"
Whip out thermometer, reads 24C

"Ok no problem, let me haul 600lbs of equipment onto your 3rd floor roof with no elevator, work in 36C weather, in the sun, to drop that 24C down to 21C so you can mash those keyboards and push those pencils!"

Considering getting central AC but the only place for it is on the opposite end of the unit from the furnace (40' away). Any idea how big the bulkhead would have to be, to facilitate the coolant lines? And is it possible to run them in, down through the crawlspace and back up? The crawlspace is completely dry and has a concrete floor.

Thanks

Yep. Out of all the countries I've been to the worst is Taipei (Hong Kong is not far behind).

Practically 30-35 degrees every day from May to September with humidity from 75 to 90%. Occasional days of 38 degrees with the humidex saying it feels like 45-50 degrees.

Open the door and the hot air just smacks you across the face as you feel like you walked into an oven. Walk outside for 15 seconds and your entire ball sack is sticky and glued to your boxers.

I once walked outside to get something to drink at the Family Mart across the street. Looked at the clock in the square where all the old ladies exercise and retired folks hang out.

It said 40 degrees.

Yup inland Thailand in the hot season before the rains (April/May) is absolutely brutal. Worse heat/humidity combo I've ever experienced. It doesn't even let up at night.

Spent a month in Greece 2 summers ago at my in-laws families places. Fairly poor locals without AC. Most enjoyable time was in the shower with the shower head in dark places. Lol. Spent a week in Athens and it was death as the concrete and no wind. Much better in the smaller villages with a breeze despite being the same temperature. I travel a lot but always have AC to run to in my hotel. That was an eye opener. Haha.

My little window unit will save me this weekend, I’ll hide in the garage and bedroom. Would love to put in a split unit in this place though. It’s bloody hot at 25 degrees.

Before you even waste your time, ask strata if its allowed, most stratas do not allow modifications, even for townhomes

But to answer, refrigerant lines, electrical, condensate, only need 1"x4" or 3" round clearance. You can run linesets literally anywhere, in any direction. 40ft is a short run. Crawlspaces are usually your best bet

Should strata approve it, i would call out two residential companies and let them do the rest of the brain work

Thanks!

Yes, our strata allows for central AC. I just have to check the bylaws for condenser placement restrictions.

If I could run the lines in and down, across the crawlspace and back up to the furnace/blower, it would be ideal. No bulkheads, straight run, fully accessible and clean.

Yeah I haven't been able to find one locally ever since the forecast came out. Even house-branded stuff like Insignia are all bought up. I ordered online through homedepot.ca earlier in the week and was able to get one shipped, but even those are all sold out now.

Fans and AC also looked to be completely sold out at Richmond Costco.

Got myself a fat watermelon. Think I'll be good.

AC kicked on about 8AM today. Yesterday was around 930. It’s gonna be toasty.

I once spent 2 days working in full length fire resistant coveralls, steel toe boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves in a building that was 55*C on the ground and god knows what next to the running boilers. When I went up to a platform 10ft off the ground my body was just dumping sweat out of everywhere. I wasn't even doing anything overly physical, idk how some if the more labour intensive trades guys were surviving.
