I guess with the high temperatures and higher than normal humidity, the fridges around the house are freezing my drinks. Look forward to a nice cold can of Diet Coke....... open it up and it's slushy One can near the back of my bar fridge in the garage looked like it was about to explode.

Good luck for those that waited too long...

Man, I thought I would be fine with just fans... but I was wrong...
Anybody see any AC units in stock around the lower mainland by any chance?

Went to home depot to pick up an online order. Lady in front of me walks in with a big cart, goes to customer service and asks, "I need the biggest fans you have, maybe 4 of them, where are they?". Guy at desk laughs.

It's 30 degrees in my apartment right now O____O
Fortunately my suite never gets direct sunlight. I'm actually surviving sitting here in the living room with a small USB fan on my desk and a larger fan a few feet away.
I had my portable AC in my bedroom on for 5 hours before I went to bed (I usually turn it off when I sleep), and found the temperature starts rising as soon as I turn it off. I am going to try leaving it on for ~8+ hours today before I head to bed and see if the bedroom stays a bit cooler overnight. Quote:

Turning on the heat in the winter only when it becomes unbearably cold (almost to the point I can see my breath when I breathe lol)

This has actually been. Pretty interesting experiment. Our townhouse has always been bloody hot. Even at 25 degrees.
I’m getting up at 6, have my coffee outside and setup some industrial fans outside blowing air in and through the place. Cools off pretty quick to whatever it was 26 this morning.
As soon as the sun hits our windows the place gets to 30
+ immediately. So I close the windows/shades early, crank the AC and it can’t keep up. Place settles at 31 degrees until the sun is over head (not on windows) and AC begins to catch-up through the day to 27ish despite actually getting hotter outside. We left for the day yesterday after the morning “heat up” and came back to the house at 30 with windows closed and AC off. Not bad. Some exterior window shades would probably help a lot.

I’m betting keeping an Undersized AC unit cranked all day will use more then your average winter heating. Probably by a fair amount.

@hud91gt that’s like our setup. Our place is semi open concept (sun room has two large glass less “windows” into the kitchen and dining room, plus a glass door. We keep the door closed and we put up that clear plastic barrier film on those pass-through windows. The danby ac unit from Costco tries its best, but in this heat there’s only so much it can do.
Always set to the lowest (17°), the air that comes out is about 11°c. But the thermostat in the living room still said 28 last night. Lowest I saw it get was 26. Right now it’s 32° out and....26.5 in the house

So, Friday and Saturday, I used more power than the days before that (didn't have AC set up yet), but since I have no concept on energy consumption, I don't know how significant the consumption is.
Yesterday (Saturday), I used 10.32kWh. Compared to the same day last year using 5.86kWh.
It has a 'projected cost' based on current usage, and is projected to be ~$25 bucks at my next billing.
Peak winter a few years ago has hit over 100 bucks for me before, which is what shocked me into going into extreme saving mode. My most expensive bill last year was well under 100.
So, I guess running the AC a few hours a day isn't TOO bad...?
EDIT: Oh, nevermind, I found a cost breakdown. Thursday (didn't take AC out of storage yet), I was charged about 70 cents worth of consumption. Saturday I was charged $1.18. So running the AC for about 5 hours compared to 0 hours "only" incurred a ~40-50 cent difference.

I check the hydro site daily at 8:00 am or so. That's when the consumption for the previous day shows up. I go into the hourly setting to see how much charging the electric vehicle costs. A whole day of driving for less than the cost of a litre of gas. Gotta love it. The last two days, consumption due to air conditioning is off the chart, lol. Projected cost for this period is at $539.00!!!!!

but yes, if you can't do shades that come down due to cost (electrically powered), louvered awning style would help.
we went low tech and got a kiddy pool with a patio shade & canopy in the back yard to cool off.
