Hamilton fans are going rabid against RB's strategist Hannah Schmitz cuz she was seen smiling on the radio soon after Tsunoda dnf'd

They think she orchestrated it with alpha tauri

Reps for every team are issuing rebukes against the vitirol

Reports are coming out saying Lewis was in the wrong engine mode

SkinnyPupp 09-05-2022 11:48 PM

Lewis got fucked again.. I asked before why everyone hates Russell, and now I'm starting to see it. Not a team player. He got himself P2 instead of P3 but it cost the team overall.

And as usual, everything works out in Verstappen's favour LUL

ncrx 09-06-2022 12:05 PM

GR made the right call on tires
MB made the wrong team call for lewis.
Without fresh tires there was no way they were going to stay ahead of max, no matter if it was 2 cars or not.
IF it was a VSC, hamilton might have had a chance.
but a full safety car the pack is bunched, what did MB expect? hold him off on cold used yellows vs fresh reds on a RB on low fuel?

Its like they learnt nothing from abu dhabi.

SkinnyPupp 09-06-2022 04:12 PM

Yeah they needed to either change both to soft, or stick with their original plan. There's a good chance neither would have worked for a 1st place finish, but what they did was favour one driver over the other, and the entire team. Ridiculous

ncrx 09-06-2022 08:32 PM

i think you're reading a little too much into a split second decision.

what mercedes did was throw away a 2/3 finish by not pitting both for softs, by rolling the dice for a win which was not on the cards.

if they had both stayed out on yellows its very possible they would have missed the podium completely.

max was over a second lap quicker than lewis after the restart.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but split second decisions is what this is all about. They made the right one for one guy but not the other.

The team knows they failed at least, so it's not like they're defending themselves (like Ferrari always does). I guess there's no point on ranting about it anymore. It just sucks for Lewis

Hondaracer 09-07-2022 08:28 AM

Merc didn’t decide to put Russel on new tires though, he basically forced the pit himself

If I’m remembering right he basically took the last corner before the pit then headed straight into the pit saying put me on softs I believe

That's what Skinny is saying. Russell forced it and took it upon himself. He's smart enough to know what the team was trying to do, but also saw the opportunity to get more points for himself, and he took advantage of the latter.

I don't blame him though, the championship wasn't on the line or anything for Merc. It's a race team but your biggest rival is always your teammate, gotta look out for yourself.

Great68 09-07-2022 11:18 AM

I think it's fantastic that Russell is giving Lewis a run for his money, 30 points up in the championship, kind of stamps out any talk about "#2 driver"...

SkinnyPupp 09-07-2022 03:09 PM

Yup Russell made the selfish but smart decision and benefited from it. The team went along with it, which means tehy don't see themselves as a team, but managers of two different drivers. I'm not looking for a #2 driver, but if you're teammates, you're teammates and you work together to succeed as a team. If not.. well then you're not really a team. If that's how they want to do it, then.. there you go!

From now on maybe Lewis can start calling his own shots and hope the "team" goes through with it like they did for George. He'll beat Russell 10 times out of 10 if they allow that.

I think a lot of fans would prefer it this way anyway. If only they could somehow double the constructors so everyone gets one driver (obviously impossible)

Spoon 09-07-2022 03:16 PM

Congrats to Russell for being on pace to win the Rosberg Award. Where you outperform your teammate (heck, even win a championship) and will still be treated as the #2 driver.

Unless Lewis drops off massively, he will always be prioritized by Mercedes. Schumacher won his 7th chip 18 years ago and Ferrari is still profiting from all the free marketing they get. You think Merc doesn't want that from a record breaking 8th championship with Hamilton?

Great68 09-07-2022 03:50 PM

Oh come on, you're delusional if you think Merc actually had a chance for race win. And without Russell pitting they would have more likely ended 4,5 rather than 2,4.

This call actually made more points for the team

What Merc should have done is pit both for softs.

SkinnyPupp 09-07-2022 04:55 PM

Honeslty I am totally down for a Russell/Hamilton rivalry

Just as long as the team treats them both the same. From now on don't use a losing strategy for one, and a winning strategy for the other

Winner winner.

Great68 09-07-2022 05:49 PM

I mean, if "treating them equally" is intentionally stifling the better judgement call, then sure sounds very equal.

This is false, from the radio transcripts he had the team's permission to pit far before he came in:

Quote:

George:

ENG: Safety car, safety car, keep the delta positive, you are staying out.
RUS: Are you sure? You don't want to put the soft on?
ENG: You're staying out.
RUS: What happens if we put the soft on? Where do we fall?
ENG: So be on standby, be on standby.
RUS : If it's only Ver- if it's only Leclerc, I'm happy to box.
ENG: So we are splitting, you are staying out. Delta, delta. Stay close to your delta.
RUS: Confirm staying out?
ENG: Staying out, staying out. Look Verstappen on exit, stay tight. So Verstappen stopped for the soft. So it is 16 laps to go. Work tyres and brakes. So Leclerc has also stopped, imagine it'll be soft. So safety car will come through the pitlane, so you are following the safety car through the pitlane, you are not stopping.
RUS: Why not? Let's stop. Let's put the soft on. I'm losing the tyres, I think we need to put the soft on.
ENG: Okay so build a gap, build a gap. Stop, stop, stop, box, box, box, box, box!

Lewis:

ENG: So safety car, safety car, keep the delta positive. So we'll go Strat Mode 1.
HAM: Has [Verstappen] got the safety car window?
ENG: So Verstappen in the pitlane, we're staying out. Stay out, stay out! So (it'll) be close to Verstappen on exit. Delta positive.
HAM: What tyres?
ENG: So Verstappen on the soft tyre, he's currently behind George.
HAM: How many laps?
ENG: We've got 15 to go.
HAM: Understood.
ENG: Safety car through the pitlane. Yeah, just remember staying in the fast lane, so stay in the fast lane going through.
HAM: probably sees George stopping in his mirrors Why did you stop George?
ENG: I don't know Lewis, I'll let you know.
HAM: That was a mistake mate. We had track position*. We had a buffer between us, now we don't have that.

I mean you kind of have to have the team's permission, or you'd be sitting there in the pitbox like a dumbass while you wait for the team to bring your tires... (where have we seen that before?
)

teggy604 09-08-2022 08:27 AM

Crazy that the driver has no control of his car. Dude wants softs and engineer tells him no. At this point just put a robot in the car.

StylinRed 09-08-2022 08:47 PM

Not to mention Ham had his car in the wrong engine mode at the restart, not that it would have mattered in the long run, but still

Mario Adretti must be sending them love letters right now

Rich

bcrdukes 09-10-2022 07:37 AM

Did they state why?

StylinRed 09-10-2022 09:01 AM

They couldn't come to a deal with Red Bull, I think Porsche wanted to own half the team or something n RB was like fu

And Porsche simply said F1 with the new regs is still enticing but /shrug
