I'm not worried about the moderates, the truckers who have left Ottawa.
I am concerned about the extreme right wing idiots , here in Canada and the US, with a penchant for violence.
Those fuckers are not just anti-government mandates. They are "ANTI government" period.
Something has to be done to bring back peace to the city of Ottawa and its residents.
Clearly, the police do not have the resources in terms number of police and equipment to make these idiot truckers leave.
This is the twelfth day of protests in Ottawa. Things can escalate very quickly with these nut jobs.
Are our government leaders that inept that they would not bring enough assistance to the police and allow things to escalate to violence?
The Ottawa police chief is asking for 1800 police officers. Do we even have 900, half of that number of police officers, in Ottawa??
This is an opinion piece in the Globe and Mail. Your thoughts about this article? https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opin...ustin-trudeau/
We’ve been here before. In October 1970, the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), a cadre of violent separatists that had been sowing chaos since 1963, kidnapped James Cross, the British trade commissioner in Montreal. Then it abducted and murdered Pierre Laporte, a provincial cabinet minister. It issued a manifesto of impossible demands.
Fearing the provincial government might collapse, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act, suspended civil liberties and sent troops into Montreal. Pressed to defend his draconian response, he declared: “There’s a lot of bleeding hearts around that just don’t like to see people with helmets and guns. Well, all I can say is, go on and bleed, but it’s more important to keep law and order in this society.”
Pressed how far he would go, his answer for the ages: “Just watch me.”

CEO of Canada’s largest trucking company says vaccine mandate ‘not an issue at all’
| And from the teamsters Union. https://teamsters.ca/en/blog/2022/02...rs-is-covid-19 Quote:
Teamsters Canada is proud to represent over 55,000 professional drivers from diverse industries across the country, approximately 15,000 of which are long haul truck drivers, 90% of whom are vaccinated.
The so-called “freedom convoy” and the despicable display of hate lead by the political Right and shamefully encouraged by elected conservative politicians does not reflect the values of Teamsters Canada, nor the vast majority of our members, and in fact has served to delegitimize the real concerns of most truck drivers today.
We firmly believe in the right to protest government policies and voice a wide array of opinions, but what is happening in Ottawa has done more harm to Teamsters members, be they Truck Drivers who were trying to deliver their loads, or hotel, restaurant and healthcare workers who were intimidated, abused or prevented from accessing their workplaces, by several protesters.
Teamsters Canada would welcome collaboration with government and employers to address today’s real challenges in the trucking industry to keep the supply chain going and Canada’s economy growing.
We join in the calls urging those protesters with legitimate concerns to go back to their own communities and work with local politicians. We are all frustrated and want our lives back, however, let’s ensure we get there respectfully, safely and protect the health of our most vulnerable first.
François Laporte
President of Teamsters Canada
Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters

I got caught in the Vancouver trucking rally two saturdays ago and it was so annoying. But, I was pretty impressed at how many people there were. I didn't think there would be that much support.

surprised firms aren't being aware more quickly ... big companies are disassociating themselves as their trucks were taken without them knowing and being ID'd on a website http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa...test-1.6343705

^ Did you read the things they're saying though?
They're both calling him divisive... or rather... they're calling the federal government divisive... about not lifting vaccination requirements which is forcing poor souls who don't get vaccinated to move to the USA instead.
Moving to the USA is no small feat and certainly most of the people of an income bracket who are choosing not to be vaccinated are definitely not the type of people who can move away.
If requiring vaccination in this situation is divisive, then divide away! Yes! I do hate all the motherfuckers who are holding us back without a legitimate reason.
The other specific freedoms he is complaining about where children are getting depressed and people aren't happy being locked down are PROVINCIAL mandates not Federal ones. As a representative of the federal government I would hope he can tell the difference, but apparently not.
Buddy said he had to go see a family doctor because he got removed from a committee for travelling internationally (if they didn't take this stance, everyone on the other side of the aisle would be saying the message is hypocritical no?) if that's not "snowflake" I don't know what is.

If you're tired of being part of the clown show, stop being a part of that clown show.
Hey, Kid Carson, do you think people are listening to you because they think you have something intellectual to say? Nah. You're the noise between the songs. Don't have a mid-life crisis because your career's peak has been introducing "Drops of Jupiter" to commuters while they're stuck on the Second Narrows.
Its ok to aspire to more in life, but don't pretend like this is compelled labour for you. Don't pretend like the station director has a pistol to your head and is whispering " Ask them about the french fries, Kid. Do they like them crispy? I want to hear how fucking crispy they like them"
This, like everything else, is a work though. He knows that his contract isn't likely to be renewed and is going out as if he's some person being fired for making a stand. He's not stupid and knows how much money is out there being a right-wing media darling. Its time for him to rebrand, because hey.. you can only pretend to be interested in Ariana Grande for so long right?
You don't have to be smart, or talented to have a media following, just on-brand and know the talking points. This whole thing created a great narrative for him because he was "too real for mainstream media".
He's out on his own. Him against the man. And he's on YOUR side! All it'll cost you is a few bucks a month to hear how....

If it was an MP from anywhere else I’d probably give it more merit, but given both of the MP’s in question are from Quebec.. ehhh… lol
I still think it does reflect poorly to some degree when your own MPs are calling you out though.

^ I don't doubt it, I remember when he changed stations many many many years ago and they stuck his mug on the side of some buses in the lower mainland they were saying he was in the $300k+ bracket back then... can only imagine inflation and experience has driven his price up over the years.
I can see how hearing your own voice talking about every societal happening every day for decades on end while only hearing the odd caller phone up to reinforce what you're saying maybe makes you think you're some kind of savant lol... that's gotta mess with your head over 20 years in the industry I would think.

As a resident of Ottawa, the "on the ground" report I can give is that I was downtown earlier this week to head into the office and it was quiet. Lots of semis parked, but no honking and not many people about. Its the weekends where shit gets ramped up. I have friends and colleagues who were dying during the honking days/nights. The injunction did wonders for stopping that. As a side note, OPS are either in bed with the convoy or blatantly incompetent because they have no control over the situation. Pitchforks are out for the Police Chief.
