Where did you read that? Everything I've seen said that's not how it works, it's full time AWD. Everyone thinks the Celica is FWD too for some weird reason.
I haven't tried any of the American or German offerings but what's wrong with Toyotas systems? I can't say I've noticed anything wrong with them but I've only driven the older ones.
Savagegeese did a more in depth analysis of it's ability. The drifty glamour shots are nigh on impossible to achieve with a stock car from factory. The AWD system acts more like something off a Rav4 as it's primarily FWD and the rear only comes on as you exit corners to give you the ability to grip forward unlike a purely FWD car. The system doesn't have a real center diff as it's just a clutch pack on the rear that would engage as it needs.
There's not enough cooling for the AWD system as the brains manages the thermals of the whole system. On a extended track session it will engage the rear less and less as it needs to cope with the heat.
The verdict is - it's still an amazing car, and one coming from Toyota at that. It's just not that super hero I was expecting.
Yes we have a manual supra… yes it’s above msrp (manufacturer suggested retail price), yes they are extremely hard to get, and yes you would get overcharged if you ordered one from Toyota as well.
This is in response to some guy's posting telling people not to overpay for their GR Supra, but looks like that post got deleted.
Of course it won't be drifty, it's an AWD car with pretty grippy tires lol.
Do they have any documentation for how they're saying the system works? Either way it doesn't really matter much to me because even if it is FWD initially it's going to react far quicker than I'd ever be able to notice, especially on the street.

All these test/review is on the tarmac. I want to see the GR Corolla in its element. Which is dirt/gravel/snow. That is where the drivetrain should really shine.
Morizo sucks, doesn't even have roll down windows in the back. Almost a useless car unless you just want it to re-sell in a couple years I guess to some weirdo collector.
Circuit is where it's at... fondly remember the days when I naively plunked down a deposit and said "I only want one if it's a Circuit edition" not realizing that was never ever going to happen lol
imo the Core is where it's at. The Circuit is $9k more for an (again imo) ugly cosmetic package. But for anyone who does like it guys are already swapping the grille and hood for pretty cheap so you're paying for a roof skin and seat fabric. I'm pretty sure you could vinyl wrap the roof and get the seats reupholstered in whatever you want for a lot less than $8k.
The Morizo is kinda neat but I agree kind of useless and not really different enough from the Core/Circuit to really be *that* special. Either way it's rare enough that it may as well not even exist lol.

You're right, in Canada the Core is cool because it comes with the perf pack... I am so used to all the people in the USA bitching about base Cores that don't even have the perf pack installed and the dealer still want a $5-8k markup lol

Morizo also does not have back seats. It's an all out track car. The Circuit edition is just coming out now.

Core is where it's at for Canada I think, just learnt that the Curcuit in Canada does not get the big wang...
I mean the hood and CF roof is cool... but if I am paying nine grand over, at least get me the full thing....
Now it looks like the core ed in Canada will be the one to get for sure! But even at MSRP, the car is $1K per month... not counting insurnace and gas..... inflation?
Dang.... lol

After all the reviews I’d take a CTR over this high strung Corolla. Good for Toyota for making it but everyone seems to say the new CTR is quite a bit better.
Bender ? Bender !!!! Need your opinion since you got both.
