I’m always thinking this 3 cylinder ratrolla is running too much boost to be that reliable. I know it’s Toyota but still… half the reasons Toyota are reliable is that they make these big lazy engines that sit at under 3k rpm most of their lives.

I am of the personal belief that well made performance engines are built with such tight tolerances (think motorcycle engines) that they can last. Having said that, if you are a shitty driver and constantly lag the engine and turbo, then yeah, it's gonna die a terrible death.
Good examples of cry babies are Porsche owners. They are the biggest chumps in the auto enthusiast crowd. "omg i can't rev my engine past 3k rpm or it will explode" then months later, the engine dies of bore scoring or some dumb internet myth.
I love seeing when you do a PIWIS scan on a Porsche and it shows you all the times it hits the rev limiter or red line, the more I want it because you know its driven. 149,000km on my flat six and going. Too many redline and rev limiter hits on the Durametric scan. Suck it, Porsche weenies.

So the guy who parks next to me everyday at work has a 991 GTS. He’s always ragging on me for my Camry. Always says annoying shit like what kind of a car guy drives a Camry?!!!! Go buy a Porsche, etc etc.
The other day he showed up with a rental macan. I’m like what happened ? He’s like ohhh it’s in for service. It’s been in service for two weeks now and I’m like why so long ? He’s like those fuckers said my engine is full of carbon and has to take it apart to clean it. I just started laughing….

Nice. Next time you should hand him a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Tell him to dump the whole bottle into the fuel tank, fill up with full tank of gas and go for Italian run on the hwy.

Friend let me drive theirs for an extended period of time and initial impressions were:
Pros:
- Fun to drive, definitely feels different from a regular Corolla
- Tons of power for a 3 cyl turbo
- Comfortable to daily. Read/heard that it's really stiff for day to day driving but I didn't feel that at all. Compliant but still flat around corners. Maybe I'm just used to my lowered FRS.
Cons:
- Interior definitely does not feel like a $45k car. Hopefully the next gen will have a better interior. Not much can be done when it's based on the regular Corolla. Small things like dual zone climate control, placement of the steering wheel buttons, etc. kinda bugged me
- I felt the seating position wasn't optimal for my proportions - might just need to get used to it overtime
Next step is to try and test it on the track LOL

I have a 2023 Corolla SE rental here in Calgary. I've had it for four days and driving around Calgary.
While not a GR Corolla, it's a nice daily driver. Suspension feels sporty and overall pretty comfortable. I prefer the seating position over my iM. Because I have a Corolla iM, the steering wheel buttons are similar, so there is a level of familiarity for me. Having said that, there are additional ones like climate control etc. mentioned by mb_ which I haven't had to use.

I see guys on the GR Corolla group complaining about not having dual climate zones like the Yaris does... it's a frickin compact car, do people honestly think there's like a barrier between the driver and passenger seat? Kinda humorous.

I have dual climate on the e36 and it's actually pretty nice to have. Not enough to complain about not having it though. It's probably pretty similar space wise.

Kinda humorous. | It's almost a deal breaker for me if I was in the market for the GR Corolla and it was going to be my only car. My gf feels I set the temperature too cold and I think she sets it too warm... we argue about the temperature in my FRS since it only has single zone climate control Luckily her car and my 4Runner has dual zone so we never argue about it most of the time #firstworldproblems

I dated a Scottish girl who got off on the heated seats in my Cadillac CTS. True story. She said it made her horny as hell. This was 2006 when such features were more rare.
Since then I’ve never had a car without heated seats.

She was a highland dancer too. Had legs for days. Good times… we had a lot of fun.
Saw her recently just out of the blue and she’s got a little kid now. We went out for a walk and for the first time in 2023 she finally tried cooled seats. She’s like oh my god you remember when you got your Cadillac ?! I’m like yeah….
Ahh to be young again.

I'm loving my GRC. I literally do not care about the shitty interior. What other new car nowadays has a manual, AWD and hand brake?
Most of the problems imo can be solved in the aftermarket eventually. My complaints are that even in 30/70 mode the back des not rotate easily. It does come around in tight corners + a boot full of gas in first gear though. I think thicker rear sway bars would do wonders. It also needs better cooling for the diff. It's a fun car.

^ That's what savagegeese said, the drivetrain doesn't have enough cooling and the ECU is basically constantly managing the heat in the rear diff. When we say better cooling, what else is there other than a new diff cover with bigger fins?
