There is no chemistry in this team. All the players look disorganized. So many passes through the slot or to no mans land.

Rutherford on the hotstove. | I don’t think that was the case.. if Miller had fetched the return most players putting up 99 points might have, he would’ve been moved. Personally, I believe he has a rep amongst the inner circle of GMs that hurt his trade value.
In 2014 Vigneualt threw him under the bus for seemingly having an entitled attitude: https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/471778/amp
5 years later AV praised him for “figuring it out”: https://www.tsn.ca/tough-love-comes-...404268?tsn-amp
Good for Miller lighting it up in a contract year and getting paid but there’s a reason for the cliché that leopards don’t change their spots.
All that said, if the Canucks weren’t winless through 6 this conversation likely wouldn’t be happening. If he was performing and wasn’t making bonehead plays we might be praising the decision to extend him.
Like Donny Taylor says, sports is the original and best reality TV there is.

Rutherford on HNIC after game ... how many times did he use the buzzword, you know, the thing that apparently, Boudreau is weak at.
“When you have injuries, you've got to have next man up and have to be ready to go. I believe if our team has a really strong structure, you can play through those things," Rutherford said. "When you start talking about injuries, you’re admitting you’re a losing team. I don’t like it. I don’t like using that as an excuse. We all have to be better. We have to use the players we’ve got and we have to play within a stronger structure to make that game easier.”

We've been in a slow "rebuild" since 2011
This core isn't it. We should sell shop and start a true rebuild here. Insane we extended Miller for that long, potentially saddling us with another albatross contract.
There's something cursed about this team stemming right from the top, internally it just stinks.
Our blessing would be to have Frank sell this team so it can reimage itself, the org has long been in the shadow of the 2011 team and hasn't created its own character since then.

we just need to look for the the next twins to be born, train them for 18 years to secretly be elite mind reading superstars while pretending to be bad players, and then draft them when nobody wants them. 18 year rebuild

| The Official 2022/2023 Canucks & NHL Thread
The team is certainly not playing in unison. You can see that there is friction between certain players.
Schenn and Miller got into an argument at the end of the second period in the Sabres game after another Miller turnover.
Schenn was gesturing with his stick about the proper play to get rid of the puck, Miller was yapping back at Schenn.
Garland skated between his two team mates to try to be peace maker. https://twitter.com/LachInTheCrease/...chenn-argument
Miller has made so many turnovers in six games so far that he can open a bakery selling apple turnovers.
In my opinion, JT is not committed to playing defence.
He makes the stupid and high risk pass in the Canucks zone instead of getting rid of the puck along the side boards.
That bonehead play that Miller made in the game against Columbus of trying to use his skates to tie up the puck in the Canucks zone lead to a turnover and a goal. A prime example of Miller either not wanting or not knowing how to play defence properly.
He is one player that I was hoping that Allvin traded to another team during the off-season in order to help the team’s depth and improve the defensive corps.

That was so bad. Who was he even throwing the puck to? Miller's so lazy.
If he's not scoring at least 1-2 goals a game to make up for his bullshit, yeah, it's a tough pill to swallow.

Does a full rebuild really work though?
I don't have the statistics to look for how many teams went full rebuild, how many years before they became contenders, and how many actually succeeded all the way.
The bigger problem I see with the Canucks over the decade is either poor management moves or maybe some bad luck as well. A lot of good players we draft are inconsistent from year to year basis or doesn't really show explosive improvement over the course of their contracts. Then some just simply don't pan out at all. It's very hard to make a strong team when the drafts don't hit. Then many free agents turn out to be a bust or don't really matter. Miraculously many players that had decent prior seasons suddenly become a major bust as soon as they put on a Canuck uniform. Either has a series of injury issues or w/e reasons, they just can't perform anymore. Then of course the bad albatross contracts on players that aren't simply worth it.
I mean, the obvious key to a successful team is to have players that are uprising, playing well above their pay grade. And we just don't have a lot of that. Most players are playing about what they're worth, or severely worse. And to add all that, the chemistry has been shitty as of right now. But let's be honest, even the best realistic version of the current Canucks are still not contenders and fringe playoff team as of now.

Whats a contender? A team that can realistically win the cup? Well that can be any team playing in the NHL no? Look at the Blues the year they won the cup, they were having a terrible season, basically last in the NHL so there chances of realistically winning the Cup was next to nothing, but they ended up winning it all.
Teams like the Avs and the Lightning took over a decade from there rebuilds to win there cups, and theres teams like the Sabres, Devils who arent even close yet. Oilers drafted first overall how many times? and they drafted the best player on the planet and yet no Cup.
You think guys like Pettersson and Hughes wanna stick around for a "rebuild" Bos already on record saying he doesnt want to do it. IMO you ice the best team possible, create a winning enviroment, draft well. Management has to stop making boneheaded moves like trading all our draft picks away or signing free agents to albatross type contracts and when playoffs comes around. Anything can happen, cause like its been said in previous Canuck Threads. The Stars have to align for a team to win the cup. 2018 Capitals and the 2019 Blues are living proof of that. Theres no guarantees that if you do everything "right" that you will win a cup, but if you do alot of things "wrong" like the Canucks have been doing for the past decade like others teams do aswell ur chances dwindle.

What does a new owner do to change the fortunes of this team? Lol
It’s sports, and in Canada it’s even tougher to win. You think players who play for the cowboys ever think “fuck we might have a chance if Jerry Jones didn’t own this team”
The ownership thing is so weird. Basically all you ask of an owner is to spend money and Aqualini has basically done all that he can in that dept. does the teachers pension plan that owns the leafs do a better job running them? The Canucks have been closer to the cup 3 times over the course of their ownership of the leafs.

"My jersey got thrown on the ice last year and I'll never forget that for as long as I play," Canuck captain Bo Horvat recalled. "It's something that hits home, and when you see it again happening this year, it definitely sucks. But I understand their frustration.
"We haven't really given them much to cheer about. It's been a lot of years in the rebuild stage and. . . at this point in the season, it just feels like it's never going to happen, like we’re never going to win again." https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...hat-hits-home/
Man, this is Bo's 9th year.... If they don't turn it around this year, I think he's not coming back.
