Say what you want but Sakic did do a fantastic job but no question they got lucky. This day and age you really need to get lucky to win the cup and the Canucks haven't been all that lucky for a long time now.
Forever... Canucks have never been lucky since literally day 1.
I mean... lost the first overall to Buffalo upon entering the league... all the way up to things like Luongo's recapture BS... and what were we missing in 2011? A top 4 dman that was healthy to solidify things? Our top D prospect that should have been playing in that role literally DIED. What other team does that ever happen to?
So Kevin Fiala to the Kings for their 2022 first and Brock Faber. Hopefully Boeser would take a home town discount and we can trade him straight for Faber but I doubt it.
Is it just me or is anyone else surprised that the cap hit is so low?
Looking at the widespread adoption of analytics, are we going to see young players/draft picks increase in value? Are GMs going to start to tighten up their purse strings when signing these long-term contracts, especially for players on the tail end of their prime?
Makes qualifying Boeser for 7.5m with HALF the point production of Fiala (46pts vs 85pts) so much more painful
This actually bodes well for resigning Boeser / Miller / Horvat if Fiala only got 7.875m. But on the flip side, if that's all Fiala got in a trade then we need to temper our expectations for any Boeser / Miller trade...
Fiala was an RFA and Minny didn't have the cap space to sign him. Any offer from a team would be slightly lower due to this. Miller still has one year of control at a low cap hit.

You could also make the same argument that other teams know that we are in a similar situation with Miller / Boeser. They know we don't have the space to sign him, boeser, and horvat. Miller is also at the tail end of his prime, and while he has 1 year left on his contract, he becomes a UFA, not a RFA. A team would lose all rights once Miller becomes a UFA.

That's awesome news. Signing for less than his QO means he really wants to stay here and help the club deal with the cap crunch JB fucked us with. Players taking less than market value is exactly what we need to build a more competitive roster. I hope they can do the same with Horvat and Miller. Yes, Miller would fetch some good returns but losing his presence immediately makes our team worse by a pretty spectacular margin. We don't have center depth.
I am super surprised by that, I thought Bones was going to retire
I do not think Boeser took less than market value FWIW... just his qualifying offer was ridiculously high... he sort of did us a favour letting us sign him for multiple years instead of forcing us to use the Q.O.... but even at this price tag it's far beyond what he produced this year. I hope he bounces back.
Its a fair deal. Considering what he had to deal with last season with his father, last season was an off year for him. 20goals 45pts is the worse case scenario prodcution were getting out of him.
