LOL.
Seattle beat LA in OT 9-8.
Great back and forth rallying all the way to the end.
The goalies were not stopping anything that night.

-wishing a speedy recovery for Kris LeTang.
The Pittsburgh d-man is out indefinitely after suffering a stroke.
Sportsnet article mentions that Letang suffered his first stroke in 2014. He has a small hole in his heart. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-be-back-soon/

Congrats to Lu.
Luongo will be inducted into the Ring of Honour next season. https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/rob...ibextid=Zxz2cZ
The Vancouver Canucks announced today that former Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo will be inducted into the club's Ring of Honour next season (2023.24) at a date to be announced later. The induction was unanimously voted on by a distinguished group of ex-players, broadcasters, and other members of the hockey club.
"We are proud to welcome Roberto to the prestigious list of Canucks Ring of Honour inductees," said Jim Rutherford, Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations. "Roberto experienced many of his career highlights as a Vancouver Canuck and is deservingly viewed as one of the best goaltenders our game has ever seen thanks to those moments. He was a fierce competitor and a tremendous leader for this team, and we are honoured to be able to acknowledge his contributions to this organization and city."

what a joke
retire his number
has a better resume than Naslund and Bure.
Can't knock on what Naslund and Bure has done, but i think it's safe to say Luongo by the end of his tenure as a Canuck and career is a far better than both those players)

#1 is a tough number to retire simply due to it’s popularity amongst tendies. Had Lu closed the door and the Canucks did win the Cup I’m quite sure his jersey would have made it into the rafters.
If a future, tenured Canuck goalie wearing #1 does bring the Cup home, I’d wager that person will earn the honour instead.
Love Lu, but factors such as the above are in play here. Many longtime fans also argue that Captain Kirk might be the greatest #1 in franchise history. Loyalty wise anyway due to Lu’s split time in Florida which doesn’t really help his case either.. McLean is also an alumni and was on the ice with my son just a few weeks ago wearing Canucks blue.
Fans who remember ‘94 know..
Lastly, not sure I can agree about Lu being better than Bure, let alone far better. Bure was a generational talent. Lu was stellar, but not in that league.

I doubt any goaltender coming to Vancouver will want to touch #1.. Maybe some European who wasn't even born during his run? I dunno
Maybe retire it under both McLean and Luongo?

Heck I'd even argue Bure should be just ring of honour not retired.
Linden and Sedins are the only 3 that should be retired.
There's no way a team with zero Stanley Cups should already have 6 jersey numbers fully retired.

Even Linden is like ehhhh
I think if you could rewrite history only the Sedins would be hanging and that would set an incredibly high bar for retirement, as it should be
Smyl was basically a pity retirement

| https://canucksarmy.com/news/report-...e-retired-2019 Quote:
When Roberto Luongo retired as a Florida Panther in June 2019, it triggered a $3.035 million cap recapture penalty against the Vancouver Canucks for signing him to a twelve-year extension in 2009. But according to Sportsnet 650’s Satiar Shah, Luongo’s career could’ve officially finished in a very different way.
Before Luongo announced his retirement, then-Panthers GM Dale Tallon offered the Canucks the opportunity to reacquire Luongo’s contract, allowing the team to place the Hall of Fame goaltender on LTIR instead and eventually finish his career in Vancouver.
The Canucks, then run by GM Jim Benning, turned the offer down.
“They gave the Canucks a chance to trade back the contract to do some LTIR stuff or whatever, they never did,” Shah said. “Ultimately, he ends up retiring.”
Despite the extremely valuable opportunity to reacquire the best goalie in franchise history and avoid a costly recapture penalty, the Canucks felt such a move didn’t tie into their existing plan at the time. But that didn’t stop Benning from using it as a frequent excuse for his front office’s inability to improve the team.
The franchise’s use of Luongo’s cap recapture penalty as a crutch for poor decisions has led some people to point fingers at the former Canuck for retiring. But aside from the fact that the NHL made the retroactive choice to punish a team for signing a then-legal contract, Shah also mentioned that Luongo didn’t have many other options aside from retirement in Florida.
“Sure, he retired and he hit the team with a cap recapture penalty. But that was also the circumstance he found himself in. He essentially was squeezed out by Florida,” Shah said.
“[The Panthers] said ‘You’re either retiring or we’re making your life miserable’ essentially, and ‘you want to work in our front office afterwards?’ It’s kind of what you have to do.”
| What the fuck?
I mean, sure, we don't know what Tallon was asking for in return... but jesus christ, it wouldn't have been a 1st round pick or prospect. likely, a low pick.

Smyl was basically a pity retirement | Only reason they retired Bure was probably because he got into HOF.
So we got 3 retired HOF, if you count Lu, 4.
