Reviving this thread
Anyone jump ship from one category of work to another? And I'm talking like full 180. Or maybe at least a solid 45 degree turn
Feels like more days I'm debating if I should be doing something new at work. Borderline bored / unmotivated in general.
Then there's days where I remind myself it could be a lot worse. (Mashing a keyboard, pushing pencils, being micromanaged, not liking my co workers, bad work hours, etc)
Then I remind myself how much I disliked school, and I should never go back.
Then I have several good days/weeks at work, and I don't even think about it, and the cycle repeats
Anyone jump ship from a trade into ?????, thoughts, suggestions?
Was looking at becoming 5-0 for the longest time, but nope to the 4 on 4 off random ass shifts.
Was looking at getting my helicopter licence, but don't think I can sit in a chair for 8hrs.
Jet turbine mechanic, again the thought of going to school is such a turn off

I'm doing the office job pushing paper, being micromanaged (by insecure middle aged women no less), not liking my coworkers thing and it's death by a thousand cuts... don't do it.
Your ability to go work in your trade in NZ or maybe anywhere else in the world is pretty bomb, maybe you just need to change up your scenery?

i changed a few times while still using my education to help secure the job. biggest switch was my 1st jump, but my subsequent ones were not as big a deviation. i try to change while utilizing my foundation of education/exp so it's less of a shock on my life.

I would say you follow your heart bro. In Dark's case, he's doing quite a bit better than before and im glad he made the jump. But what you might perceive as moving up, might not ultimately be as rewarding as you think it is.
Grass always seems greener on the other side. I thought by moving into management i was moving up, but instead it turned into a pit of vipers. When i left railroad, i felt like i lost my identity and I sincerely miss that part of my life.
My current port gig is good, but i much rather be riding the high rails. It just seems so much more fulfilling than micromanaging numbers/people/logistics. yeah yeah money is better now, but its not always about money. Its about how you live with yourself.

not true at all mang. Most of the fucktards in my field are making over 300k and they are all miserable fucks.
Most are on their 3rd marriage, most are overcompensating by drinking/smoking/eating themselves to an early grave.
Im one the few who dont drink/smoke or have any real bad habits (besides the occasional food binge) and they think im a fucking weirdo. Some industries are just more toxic than others.
You being king shit of wendy's drive thru window, im sure you have to deal with HERROW HERROW!? me no hear u good talking box man. That in itself is quite horrible.

Those aren't mutually exclusive, though.
There are far more sad ppl under the poverty line than there are sad people making 300k. There is a line somewhere, but it's often tilted towards the dollar bills side, especially in a city as expensive as Van.
The stress you put on a relationship when you cant afford rent is a whole lot rougher than spending 300k on FunkoPops and whisky.

No misogamy here, it's just the truth. Nothing can be agreed upon, nothing can ever get actioned, meetings just happen with no actual outcomes.
It's actually quite fascinating how different men and women work in that regard.

Maybe it also has to do with hobbies after work. I tend to surf 2-3-4 times a week in NZ. Whereas I'm only going out 1-2 times a week for a bike ride here, and a night cruise 1-2 other days.

Probably not for me, I did 50% field, 50% office about 9 years ago, and the office was just sooooo slooowww. We have a position in the office where I could be service manager, but I just don't know if I can handle the office pace at my age. I think I need another 10-20 years before hitting the chair Quote:

It's actually quite fascinating how different men and women work in that regard. | Ugh, we have one 'director' and she fits the description to a T.
Micromanaging (from a national level nonetheless), stubborn, and thinks she's all edgy because in leadership calls she'll say things like "well the client can suck a dick".
Yet she keeps her job because women in leadership and all that. Imagine if an old white guy said something similar, like grab'em by the pus...oh, wait, bad example.

I guess I am coming up to my 1 year mark...
whao... time really flies...at my age, I actually wish time will go slower haha....
Job has been great... income has been good? but also super unpredictable, I can literally make it rain one month and eat dirt the next lol (well still better than my last job even on my worse month) but... once you taste the highs... the lows feels pretty low...
Otherwise, mentally doing great!
- meeting new people and just chit chatting
- sitting into the newest and greatest (well.. for a 50K car lol)
- experiencing just all kinds of cars, and management encourages it, because only when you drive your own used inventory, you can then find its strength and weakness then match them to the clients wants and needs, otherwise a real shit example of a competitor can be your ticket to selling your own new inventory lol
- and most of your service techs are car guys thru and thru, so break/lunch has always been too short
- managers have been great, absolutely no micro-managing, but do give you actual advice when you are stuck in a deal and goes up for help, also.... car guys thru and thru, cant stress that enough, we can talk for hours and hours on the new GT3 or R32, if it wasn't for work, I would actually just sit at the managers desk because they just have so much insight on the topics that I want to know more about....
Hoping to keep the momentum going and hoping to have actual cars to sell next year lolo, our new car inventory is still a joke lol

^ You made a very successful transition, just feels like you were made for this industry, and found a really good dealer to work at !! Props. I mean you could have made the transition and ended up in a shitty environment of a dealer and it would have ruined your overall experience.
