Stinky AC what's the best way to fix.

It's that time of the year again and AC is getting stinky cuz see lais never turn off the AC and let it vent before they park the car.

What's the best way to fix it now? I used the wurth bomb a many years ago but I can't seem to find it anymore. It's this spray can that you click on inside the car then have AC on and heat? On full blast recirculating for like 10 min. And it did a great job in killing the musty smell.

What do you guys use now? Lysol spray the AC air intakes?

Yes. Repeated Lysol sprays into the ac air intake (the holes usually below the windshield wipers) and also spray the vents. Make sure to cycle between the circulation mode and hot and cold so it gets into the entire system.

i thought changing cabin filter helps in general.

i remember in 1 of my old cars i used a fram cabin filter "with baking soda".
did it help more, or the fact i changed out my dirty gross filter, not sure.

Replace cabin filter, spray down the indoor coil if accessable, put an odour "puck" in your car for a few weeks.

Something like: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/s...-0530104p.html

Yes that's the Wurth thing I used before, don't seem to have any Canada sellers, I need to do 3 cars, 2 cars is like one year old and the older one just had a new cabin filter installed but the stink only comes on when I turn on AC.

Need to clean off the evaporator core in the heater box of all the mould buildup
The foaming cleaner is good. I’ve also used the locking “grenade” but attached a regular spray nozzle to direct it into the heater box

A somewhat decent way to get it in is via the evaporator drain hose and pinch it it. let it sit for some minutes before draining out

Sadly for me, my cars are pre cabin filter so i need to yank the blower motor/split the heater case to rid of all the tree droppings too...

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I have a problem with my windshield defogger where after 5 seconds of opening it, it emits a very strong chemical-like smell. I tried the airfresh stuff a few times and it wouldn't get it out.

What car? I'm afraid it sounds like you might have a heater core leak

Whenever i've had issues with a smelly hvac in the car, an easy fix is to change the cabin air filter.
