I got the app and I see a lot of tweets from people I don't follow, so it's pointless to use it. I'd rather it just be posts from the 5 people that I follow so far.

I've read that it'll do that until you've got enough content coming in from people you do follow. Basically it's looking to keep your feed full.
Threads isn't even close to being really useful for launch... Just tried uploading a video, first couple times it was upside down, so I just encoded it flipped, and then it lost the sound somehow. Also without an inline translator, which instagram has, it's not very useful worldwide.
Maybe it'll get there, but it's way too early to be a viable replacement for twitter.
lots of people are rooting for it though since elon has made a villain out of himself.
for now anybody who is on threads is pretty much already on twitter, but any competition is bad news for twitter even if it's not going to immediately replace it.

That's funny because wasn't Zuckerberg public enemy #1 just a little while ago, with all the "atrocities" that he has done?
As a remotely related note, I find it funny that the Canadian gov is cutting ads on Meta platforms, but continuing with YouTube, even though both Meta and Google are playing hardball with blocking Canadian news.
its funny how ppl think that these billionaires are going to be their saviours from other billionaires.
its like when ppl first started worrying about fb privacy, and they were turning to google+ instead because they viewed google as the good guys that they trusted with their data..
I wonder if his homie Peter Thiel was an advisor to that change?
Peter: "Hey remember that URL we purchased back in the 90s, X.COM, isn't that cool as fuck? We aren't using it for anything, how about a Twitter rebrand?"
Elon: "Sick".
I wouldn't be surprised if Elon tries to turn Twitter into some type of payment processing platform of some sort, if so, the change would make some sense. The payment processing sphere is already filled though, I don't see the need.
Lol guy literally bought and destroyed a 44 billion dollar company because "lefties are too meanie" to him. https://youtu.be/8jY6nXob3Q8
Sure, but he also helped usher in a new Era for electric cars, helped Co-create PayPal, is paving the path for launching rockets into space and you only dislike him because the media told you he's mean. Wahhh.
