I loved the kart track | For me, I never ran the Mission kart track, and has no desire to run the kart track because I know I am not a precise enough driver to race (ie. go all out) at a venue that has so little margin for error.
Case in point -- I went to the VCMC autox at the Blundell site on Aug 13 -- my first time in a long time. In my first run at the first hard braking zone, I totally messed up and almost plowed through the whole cone box LOL~ But I came out of it with nothing other than my bruised ego, and I continued on with the rest of the lap. If that were to happen at the Mission kart track, I'm sure there would have been some sort of vehicular damage because the margin of error was much smaller at Mission.
To compensate for the smaller margin of error at Mission, my only viable solution is to dial back the aggression level. But then for me, that goes against my philosophy for autox-ing -- I need to be driving somewhere between 98% - 105%. So I never went to a Mission autox.
I'm sure everyone else has their own reasons for going or not going.

HUGE DISCLAIMER: I don't run w dedicated auto-x groups. I'm out w the Porsche and BMW club. it's a different environment with a large span of skill
there's no runoff. i watched a guy total his is300 there in the spring. He would have been fine anywhere else. just a noob who got fixated and totalled his car. that sucks.
there's only so many configurations. I want a complicated open cone layout, not a mini road coarse that everyone can follow. What keeps my low HP cars competitive at club days is that I can follow a course. Lots of the big dik big HP boys are so fixated on speed that they DNF all day and fall off the board.
there are HUGE bumps - like suspension wrecking bumps. For whatever reason the casual groups I run with don't avoid it. Ruins my runs - I'm not willing to smoke them like others seem to be willing to do. I also miss at least one big sweeper that mission doesn't have room for.
bottom line - just not as fun for me as the old pad, and I would love to get back to that feel.

I had zero interest in going to Mission. Driving 75mins to Mission so I can have 6mins of seat time isn't a great investment of time. I did end up going once for the Miata event last year and drove a friend's car. The track wasn't fun and with the grass around meant it's always dusty or dirty. The runoffs are small and it seems like every other event there's an incident. Also with the structured layout it meant very little creativity is allowed in building the course.
The Mission pad is also the access road to the RV park, which we ended up having an issue with when a rogue woman with her kid purposely ignored everyone and drove on to a hot track. They got a stern talking to not by the organizers but by the track officials but that's just another I don't like to deal with.
I need to try the Richmond pad but with a 7 month old at home, probably not this year lest I care about not being murdered at home |

and my opinion is the same as 'The Producer' regarding this layout. My first time here as well, and I felt safer pushing the car. Mission was fun at first and I do like the turns that are fixed to the track, but it got old after two events.
My friend in a new supra lost control in the slaloms along the river straightaway and almost took out a crowd! Not sure if anyone here was there for that. Very scary and less room for error at Mission for sure.

Give us a run down of his idiocy so I can go troll him later | not much of a tale. watched him go down the opening straight - other groups have a tight slalom to keep it slow, but we only had 1-2 kinks. he lost it and went left - all the way left towards the river. He could easily have been in the drink if he didn't get into the equally sketchy stumps they left after cutting down the trees at the end of the run. Started running towards it as soon as it happened but organizers kept us away.
Shut us down for an hour? ambulance came. Guy never came back to the pits - don't really blame him. 30 people watched him fuck up pretty badly. Car was taco'd when it went by on the wrecker.
Did you ever hear how it went with insurance? Technically BMW cones days are driving training - in theory you have coverage. Reality is he didn't have a co driver/trainer and just bought it. It was a wet/cold day mid April IIRC.

I’m booked in for SpeedyGoat autox on the 24th. I had no idea a new pad was found. So so so so pumped and scared. Haven’t driven this thing hard since modified. Turbo makes it spicy. Haha.

Unfortunately ICBC only gave him like 10k for his IS300 (manual, 1 owner, low KMs... like less than 100k) which I thought was ridiculous as that's not market value. But he took it, didn't fight them for more money because I think he just wanted this whole thing over with. Can't blame him, he's pretty shook up over the thing and he didn't even drive for 4 months after the accident. I think some PTSD or something. |

Damn, that's brutal. My biggest fear is stuffing a car at a HPDE and it's not covered.
Heard another RS member totalled their car at the track recently and had their claim denied by ICBC.

It's the risk you take, for being able to do something 99.9% of the population will never get a chance to do
Or buy insurance for 1% of the cars value for the day and full send.....

The general saying with tracking the car is -- if you can't afford to have it written off, you shouldn't be taking it to the track.
I am obviously not adhering to this sage advice lol~ |
