well this guy is a huge cheapskate. losing 10k (he paid 18k+ taxes for that IS300) must be like having a Chinese heart attack for him. This was his childhood dream car so he's pretty shaken up about it (although if he found it that precious, one would think he wouldn't want to track it, or even autocross it)

I've autox'ed/tracked everything I've owned (Camry, MS3, Mini Cooper, NC Miata, M3). The reality is when I autoxed the MS3, I can't afford to stuff it, neither can I afford to stuff the M3. But you take calculated risks and don't be an idiot. I never tracked the Miata because I would have most likely stuffed it, it was so loose. It was stupidly fast at autox though even with shit tires.

I never took the M3 to Mission autox because of the track time ROI being extremely poor, and after seeing the in car vids, it's not something I'm comfortable with in a 450hp RWD slidey boi.

not to beat a dead horse here - but cones days are supposed to be safe. we don't even have helmets on (I think he smashed his head on the side window - he was cut up). The very worst thing that would have happened to him in an open lot would be a big spin out and a little chiding back in the pits. Only one time have have I seen a car go through the fence at Pitt Meadows and that's because of a mechanical failure.

the type of event that it is, and the noobs it attracts mean it shouldn't be on the Mission kart track IMO. The stumps are sketchy (especially in the rain) and there's something mentally about being on a track instead of a cone layout. Most noobs at auto-x are crawling around at first just trying to learn the course layout.

Your boy fucked up for sure - and really he's lucky to get 10k instead of zeroK but still - tough pill to swallow. Hope that thing was a beams/manual swap parts car for somebody.

That's surprising, I'm pretty sure they've always required helmets up here.

Helmets are not required at any bmw cones days. Dancing w cones or drivers clinics.

They are required at bmw track days

It’s a thin line - and after watching the wreck kind of dumb. The next day on the same track in the same conditions they are required by PCA.

I disagree about not being able to build unique tracks at mission, every time I went it was different and had new challenges

Also y’all just gotta send harder and it worry about a little bit of grass ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The problem with the grass at Mission was that if the dirt/crap people brought back onto the course from going off got too bad - we had to stop and sweep the course before the next car. And the layouts can only go a few different ways to follow the tarmac. It is much more open at Blundell, and you can get creative with the crossovers/boxes with multiple angles of entry. And as mentioned above, less runoff. Not that Blundell is completely obstacle free... there's the light poles, and there are some elevation changes at Blundell as well to take into account.

From what The Producer said, that course was a bit of a failure in design from the course designer. That straight should never be taken as a straightaway for the full length because you can get up to some pretty high speeds, and if someone misses a braking point, bad things happen. I've always seen it with a slalom to slow people down, or cut into two sections to minimize the top speed.

Since we're posting action photos, here's one of me and the S2K. See you guys there on the 24th!

I don't get why tracks in the Pacific Northwest all have concrete barriers.

Because concrete barriers won't kill you as fast as a tree will if you're sideways.

In the 5 tracks that are easily accessible from Vancouver, isn't Mission the only one with concrete barriers that are quite close?

The last turn at VIMC puts you within like 3 feet of the wall if you touch the rumble.

Sure but you’re going like 40kmh. If you hit that wall it’s entirely your fault
