Maybe I'm being too image conscious, but whenever I see a Mercedes fob on someone's desk I just think it's a little crass. I even flip my wife's BMW key fob over whenever I take her car to work. It's too embarrassing.

Whereas with Hyundai, it's cool. "I'm getting value and performance and I don't give a shit what anyone thinks. Even Porsche for that matter seems at least like it's an enthusiast's choice.

So once I take a full spec GLA250, add every single option, ppm, max the extended MB warranty and buy everything the business office has to sell I actually probably have 20 years of fuel on the house before I hit $90k.

I've been stealing so much business from Japanese, Korean, and domestic makes because everyone thinks their cars are worth more than they really are. It is still a Hyundai at the end of the day and a $90k one at that.

Not trying to start a pissing match honestly. It is just wild where the industry currently is at for a lot of brands.
All good man, great to see perspective...

But we are talking about the N, if you were to use GLA250 for the comparable, just for your amusement

Maxing out the GLA250 (every option), no extended warranty, ppm or business office crap = $67,320 + 15% tax = $77,418 out the door
221 HP AWD
0-60 = 6.3 seconds

Maxing out the Ioniq 5 Ultimate (every option), no extended warranty, ppm or business office crap = $67,143 + 15% tax = $77,214.45 - $9,000 rebate = $68,214.45 out the door
320 HP AWD
0-60 = 5.1 seconds

Maxing out the Toyota RAV4 Prime (every option), no extended warranty, ppm or business office crap = $65,239 + 15% tax = $75,024.85 - $7,000 rebate = $68,024.85 out the door
302 HP AWD
0-60 = 5.5 seconds

So, tell me how would 20 years worth of gas amount to when you are negative $9,204 hole in your pocket to start the camparison even with a GLA250 ...I didn't want to go into specifics, but yo...

================================================== ========================================

Someone buying an electric Hyundai isn't looking for high performance like the AMG motor and sports suspension etc. = yea we have a car for that, the normal $68K Ioniq 5 Ultimate (and if you dont want all the bells and whistles, we also have a $57K base Ioniq 5)

But for the people who are looking for perfomance like power, sport suspension = we are making a car for that as well, it's the Ioniq 5 N. and that is the 90K out the door (and that is where the extra 22k is going... the 22k is for the extra performance)

The reason why I brought up the GLA45 is becaue

GLA45
382 hp
0 to 60 = 4.3 sec
cargo area with seat up = 485L
cargo area with seat down = 1,430L
front leg room = 41.0in
rear leg room = 38.0in

Ioniq 5N
641 hp
0 to 60 = 3.4 sec
cargo area with seat up = 527L
cargo area with seat down = 1,587L
front leg room = 41.7in
rear leg room = 39.4in

Why would you compare the base model to a top model and complain the top model is priced too high? Thats like my A4 is such a good deal comparing to your M3...

lol come on man, yes, it is a Hyundai at the end of the day, but trying to argue value $$$ on a Hyundai is yea... that's like the most important thing going for the brand, bang for your buck lolol

Comparison on paper only goes so far... If I was a shopper between the two, I'd rather stay away from the reputation that Hyundai carries. Theta engine failures, prone to hacks, and asking their customers to park outside to avoid burning your house down, the list, goes on.

Looks to see where my Acura falls on this list....between <checks notes> Chrysler and Alfa Romeo. I shoulda just bought a Stelvio Quadrigfoglio or a Durango SRT instead - would have been more fun and the same amount of pain.

You've passed your sales training! If I'm going to make a decision using flawed data, I'm going to get my flawed data from car brand communities rather than JD. JD Power only looks at the first 3 years and I keep my cars for longer. Easy theft is also probably not captured as "reliability".

Consumer Reports reliability rankings > JD Power

There’s a reason why car manufacturers like to cite JD Power in their ads

I'm surprised, I'd pick the 641hp > 382hp any day. The only time i touched 600+ was a E63S AMG and that felt 3-4x faster than a 507 C63 / Mustang GT. I think 600hp is where straight line speed starts to become 10/10 fun again for me.

I'm going to give you a hard time for using this here. I know it's probably what corporate likes to use and tells you to use, but we all know JD is BS

It may work for the average buyer but it's RS we are talking about here.

I don’t know about you guys but I find all Mercedes product boring and uninspired. I tried to like them, I just can’t.

I cross shopped that AMG GT-R and GT-S before buying the ratrolla and I was not impressed. Build quality is bleh, interior is bleh, it goes like stink yes but whatever. Dynamically bmw is still better and Porsche so I don’t know where that leaves this brand. None of their products speak to me.

^^ but you drives Corolla, AMG always has more drama and soul than jdm products. Toyota is just like an appliance, like a old fridge that doesn't break, works and causes no worries. But also boring cuz nothing ever happens.

Germans on the other hand you never know when you have to declare bankruptcy every time you start the car

I bought my Veloster because I really liked the E63S pops and loud acceleration that AMGs offer. It was the poor mans compromise.

Because of that experience i had the AMG GT-R/S is on my bucket list of to own. I see the LC500 roll in sometimes at golf and the exhaust makes me wanna own it as well. If you found the AMG's boring I'm worried both cars fall under that boring category for me lol.

they're both pretty boring. Old man'y cars with the styling/sound of a young man's car but the handling of an equivalent F10 5 series. ho hum all around.

Its good for a modern day car, but just get in an older car like an e46 or even an e90 and you'll be feeling like WTF IS THIS SHIT. Keep your velo and s2000, those are truly driver cars.

The only modern-day driver car on sale would probably be the Lotus Emira or a CTR. Those are pretty raw. If you want something else it'll be things that Tofu sells

Hmm... that's interesting. I have generally found the recent Mercedes to be very capable cars, and far more enjoyable than modern BMWs. In particular, modern AMGs are much better than modern ///M cars from a performance driving POV, and that difference becomes more evident the harder you push the car.

But ultimately they are all too heavy though. Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. All of them.

Oh they are all very capable. I don’t deny that. the problem is they are too isolated / insulated and the experience is dull. It just feels like you are playing a video game. You make the motions but you get none of the sensations.

I stole my wife’s old bmw to make a run to the port today
Like to me this is a great pallet cleanser. The steering and chassis is fantastic. Sure it’s automatic but the driving sensations are very analogue and clear. You twitch the wheel, you can feel the entire car rotate. It feels almost massless vs the heavy pork chops of modern day cars.

Plus that NA inline 6 that only bmw can do right is just so rewarding to rev out.

128i is the last special BMW without an M badge. Truly a great car and holds on to the last of the "ultimate driving machine" moniker.

What new M car to AMG comparisons are you making? The new m2/m3/m4 are leagues above their AMG counterparts for driving experiences from what I've heard. Not sure about the bigger ones, as AMG has been doing those better for probably more than a decade.

I agree. I replaced my NA8 with this since I need a third seat, and this was more fun on the sea to sky than I expected. I slightly regret not waiting for an LCI but 6 speed n52 verts seem kinda rare. I do have to replace the struts though...

^ how's the wind noise with the soft top, I wonder if you will get squirted on with lube if anything breaks. Sort of want a 1 but I don't need a small sports car right now. I wonder why you don't see many 1 series clown shoes being imported.
